  1. Does anyone know when the All-State and Regional selections are going to be made public?
  2. I'm sorry to say and not to take anything away from any of those players, but Kier Houston had a better year than both of them in one of if not the hardest regions in 4A. 2172 yards passing with 22 TDs 1067 rushing yards with 10 TDs
  3. At quarterback I will go with Kier Houston from Powell. Not to take anything away from Teague, but he was more of an athlete and not a pure all around quarterback.
  4. The game is at 12 noon on December 13, 2008 and the tickets are $5 at the gate but if you go to a Toyota Dealership, you can get the tickets for free.
  5. I'm just wondering; who's not on this team that you want on here. Just because a kind at this point doesn't have the offers that you are speaking of does or doesn't make him an All-Star. Most colleges are starting to make their final rounds here in the next 2-3 weeks and then you will see a lot more offers to those that are D-1 prospects. The evaluation period for colleges does not go year round and as the season comes to an end, you will see more coaches at schools and at homes of these players. The dead period where a college coach to visit is one day this week so they was not allowed to visit a lot of these players. Believe it or not, it??™s not always about the stats when a college picks a player. If that player fits the mold that they are looking for then they will pull the trigger on them. My son went to a lot of camps with several players that are regarded the best in Tennessee and his stats are far more better then theirs, but his offers are not the same at this time of the year because most of the colleges that has been looking at him since last year wanted to see how he did this year as a whole given he only played 2 years including this year. I've noticed that if you don't get noticed early in your high school career then it is hard to be in the so called top, but you always have GEMS in the ruff and if a player is good, then he will be noticed no matter what and will succeed if that is his plans.
  6. Well, of course I am a little bias due to not knowing anything about the West Team, but I am most interested with the skill positions in this game. I think that the Quarterbacks and running backs will show who are really best at their positions. I think that the match up with Houston and Teague will be very interesting with their skill set on the quarterbacks and Dominique Allen and David Jones with the running backs. This will be one for the watching and we all should be there to support all of the players from Tennessee.
  7. Well, don't under estimate Powell's team or the running backs. Powell as a team has rushed going into last nights game over 1800 yards. The running backs account for over 900 yards. Powell rushed for over 200 last night with Luke leading the way. Also, Powell has better WR's as a group than Clinton and if they can get going, then it will be hard to stop them. I think that this will be a very interesting game not really knowing much about Rhea County and I am looking for a Powell win so that we can get back home for Round 3. Powell - 36 Rhea Co - 17
  8. Sorry Buddy but if you win then you will play the winner of the Maryville/Cleveland game.
  9. To me as I read their language, the head to head does not apply and it would go to the 10 yard rule, I think...
  10. Per TSSAA Football Regulations: E. The following tie-breaking procedures shall be applied and all regular-season games, both region and non-region, shall count (After each of the following steps have been applied, item C above shall be applied.): 1. The team with the greatest number of victories. 2. The team who has the greatest number of victories over teams winning 50 percent or more of their games. 3. The team whose opponents have earned the most victories. 4. The team whose opponents have received fewer defeats. 5. The team who has the greatest number of victories over teams in its own class. 6. Ten yardline overtime procedure at neutral site Monday night at 7:30 P.M. C. If at any point when the following tie-breaking procedures are applied, one team has beaten all the other teams that are tied for a play-off position, that team shall be rated above the others. The whole Handbook for Regulations for 2008-2009 can be found at: www.tssaa.org/Handbook/football.pdf
  11. I'm sorry but Powell with a win next week will put them at 5-1 and will give them at least a tie for 2nd place. Even if Clinton beats Powell and wins out, it's the same as last year for the teams that tie; they look at the (wins) of the whole division, not just the head to head...With a win next week, Powell would have won all region games except Maryville and maybe Clinton, so Powell would be the winner per TSSAA Regulations. When Powell lost to Clinton last year, that's what everyone thought until the coaches was notified after the game. In coach Lowes talk to the team after the win, he didn't know that they made it to the playoffs. Now I could be wrong, but this is what some of the parents came up with after Centrals win... Powell 28 West 14
  12. Well, the biggest question is; who wants it more...With a playoff spot secured, do Powell just go into this game with a play it safe attitude or do they have bigger goals in mind to keep them pressing on the gas pedal and moving forward. Well, I think that even though they have a spot already in the bank, they have more to play for. Look at the big picture with me for a second. With a Powell win, they will have second place locked up in Region 3-4A and a First Round Playoff Game At Home. We all know that Powell is peaking at the right time and they play much better at home even though they lost to Maryville there... What are your thoughts????
  13. Well, I can't go with your Top 5... Here's mine... 1. Maryville - on top until beaten 2. Powell - starting to gel and getting ready to start their peak 3. Clinton - almost 2nd but will lose the final regular season game to Powell 4. West - Don't know much about them, but a toss-up with Halls 5. Halls - on a downward spin looking for a way out...need to throw the BALL 6. Central - what a mess...enough said... 7. South Doyle - hard working team without leadership...need a running back 8. Lenoir City - sorry, but someone has to be last...a team with a lot of heart...
  14. Well, unlike you and a lot of Powell Fans, I have been saying for the past couple of weeks that they will put it all together if they just get over the mental block that they all had. Some of the senior players on this team thought that it was just suppose to happen and that they did not have to work for anything, but reality set in and now I hope that the hunger that they had on this past Friday will stay with them on both sides of the ball. Also, I think the change in the coaching staff where they are playing the younger guys helps with depth and rest. Also just to say to all the Powell Family, that I didn't respond to the negative thoughts that some of you had about the team and Kier, but I did want to say that a lot of his play or lack of was due to him having to run for his life most of the time due to the lack of the offensive line not blocking, but I do have to say that on last Friday, they showed that they can stay in their with the best of them and going forward I hope that the mental edge will stay with them. If the line can hold their block, if Kier can make the right reads, and if the receivers can make a couple of plays with the backs running hard as they have been, then we all will see that this Powell team will be the team that we all thought and think that they can be this year. Powell 36 - South Doyle 10
  15. No, Congrats to Maryville...They did what they had to do from the start, middle and finish...What the HECK...They did whatever they wanted to do tonight...
  16. You all get on here with this same old thinking...Yes Maryville is the Champions and yes they are disciplined, but all goods things must come to a end...If one's mindset doesn't change, then one will never make a change that he/she is looking for... This is a prime year for any team to beat Maryville and you have to believe whether you are a player, coach or fan... I believe in these Young Men at Powell and from week to week they are coming together no matter who the foe is. Powell doesn't have to be the better team this year; they have to be the better team on Friday Night... Go Panthers
  17. Maryville better not come in thinking that the game is over before it even begins...64 and counting STOPS HERE IN POWELL, TENNESSEE on September 19, 2008...IN OVERTIME...
  18. Well, I know what's going to happen...Powell will come out of its Funk and beat Karns by atleast 17 points. Now, whether it comes just from the offense I don't really know, but if the defense can stop the run/pass, I think that the offense will score at a pace that Karns will not be able to keep up with them.
  19. Well, I didn't know that I was in the know or close enough to the program to warrant this type of attention, but I agree with HTV, we will know a whole lot more of the Panthers after these next two scrimmages. As you know in football, your biggest step up is after your first scrimmages and Powell showed that the week after Catholic was a week of major changes and adjustments. As far as Alcoa, they really did hold their own with the 1's and the 2's dropped off a little bit from the Catholic scrimmage. As week 3 or scrimmage rolls around, we should see how well the offense has molded together. It should be a special year for the offense and hopefully, Kier can build on last years success and shortcomings. If the defense and offensive line can come on, I think by the Maryville game, we will see something special on the field and hopefully the best team that night will prevail. Last, Powell has a whole lot of new young guns including Big Tony at NG...That is Kier's little cousin and with the help of #14, #26 and #2, you will see by year's end that Powell is starting something special as a program and everybody in Region 3 AAAA will have to mention them in the lights of taking over the region after Maryville moves on. That's my Pre-Season take on it...
  20. QUESTION!!! What is it that Powell has going on? You say that as if they had some problems or something. Tell me what's going on that I don't know. My son plays over there and the only thing that is going on is that players in the city is moving out or transfering to Powell so that they can play in the spread. Another question...Where does Central play in your answer. Have they moved out of the region. Man, you are very smart.
  21. Maryville had a great run but Powell will put a stop to that 60+ win... The Panthers Rule in 2008 but Maryville will still win the Region...
  22. I'm sorry but let the season begin... 1. Maryville - they will lose 2 games 2. Powell - will be the first team in 2 years to beat them 3. Halls - the defense can't win them all...You still needs points 4. West - Too much mess going on at Clinton and Central
  23. I disagree...I think that Houston, the QB at Powell is and will be the best Quarterback in East Tennessee. Where did you find this list from Scout.com?
  24. Yes, Clinton did beat Powell last year and if you was there or heard about the game, Powell didn't come out of the locker room at halftime and finish the game. If I can remember, I think Powell was up by 14 points and they just thought it was over but a good Clinton team did not. It came down to the last play but to say that Clinton has arrived is a little over the top right now...They have too many ??? and not enough Answers. As for Powell, the lines will come together and with the spread, you really don't want 350 lbs lines.
