  2. I agree, I have seen every BA game this year, including the scrimmages. I just have a feeling that they are the better team, and will show that Saturday night. The regular season game was close, and it was BA's worst performance of the year, and yes, MBA fans, your team certainly had a hand in that! However, I just like our chances a second time around with our horses in tact. Also, let's not forget that Coach Potter is coaching in I believe his third State Championship game, and he has won a championship at McCallie. His experience is an advantage.
  3. Wow, MBA is only good because they cheat! BA has never heard that...funny how success brings out the vindictive side of others
  4. I agree. While not totally ditching it, the Eagles have gone retro, running out of the I formation, even putting Jabari Tuani at fullback and just pounding people. The spread puts so much pressure on the QB, and with a young 10th grader at that position, I think they were asking too much out of him. This new formation plays to our talent, big and fast and physical, and allows the QB to be one of the cogs vs. having to do so much. BA started going more with the I at BGA, and against Ryan went with it the majority of the game. Since then, our offense production has really picked up, including the passing game. Also, I think CJ is better out of the I than as a fullback in the spread...he has a lead blocker and is at least 2 yards deeper...when he hits the whole he is full speed.
  5. I am in total agreement with the coaching staff on this one. BA was going to win this game, with or without Chris. A BA Coach told me that CJ's ankle sprain was severe enough after the JPII game that the Dr/Trainer said he could keep playing, but unless it was rested, he was at risk for surgery. Resting him while the game is at hand, but still keeping him sharp, is a very smart move. On another note, kids today are still tough...a big difference is the depth at BA. A fresh 2nd teamer is probably better today than back in the 70's and 80's.
  6. remains to be seen, but I do believe BA will prove you to be very mistaken. I just don't see this game being close, and Chris Jordan is a special talent (apparently every college coach in the SEC thinks so), who's absense has been felt by BA's offense. He's healthy, and BA is going to roll IMO. MBA/BA game, BA fumbled 4 times (didn't lose any) but it killed drives, gave MBA short fields, and they had 2 FG and one TD off a 30 yd drive. BA QB was very shaky, and it wasn't like MBA blew them off the field, but you would hardly think that was the case with so many jumping on the MBA bandwagon. I am eagerly awaiting a rematch, or at least expect one and hope it comes to fruition.
  7. Apparently he wasn't the first coach to have a rapid rise at such a young age... Vincent Thomas Lombardi was born in New York City. He went to Catholic schools, starring as a fullback on his high school football team. Lombardi attended Fordham University and played guard on the school's football team, part of a line known as the Seven Blocks of Granite. After graduating in 1937 he worked in business for several years while attending law school at night and playing semi-professional football on weekends. Two years later he became a coach and teacher at St. Cecilia's Academy in Englewood, New Jersey. Lombardi coached football, basketball, and baseball at the school during his eight years there, and his football teams won numerous state titles. Some people just have something special, and C. Flatt is one of those. In those early years, his staff was excellent too. How many people know that Tommy Owen, the legendary coach from MBA, was a member of Carlton's staff in the mid 70's? Coach Jimmy Gentry, Dalton, Bobby Gentry, Coach Huskey, Coach Jacobs (who's there now), et. al., soon followed, and young men (like me) wanted to drive 15 miles to school each day to play for those men. Never was recruited, but sought them out...I was not on scholarship, and my parents made financial sacrifices to provide me a Christian education, and for that I am very grateful. I realize most of the people with the criticism do so more to ignite debate, but until you have experienced the school, and what it was like to play for these men, you will never understand. With the warped logic that winners must cheat, then Gallatin from the 70's-80's, Riverdale from the 80's-present, Maryville from the 70's-present, Trousdale County (70's-current) must all cheat...obviously I don't buy that, because what all these schools have in abudance is community spirit, dedicated parents, and outstanding coaching. Funny how when a great coach leave, programs slip. Overton was a powerhouse for years (Coutras era) and Gallatin (Calvin Short), but both programs have slipped...coaching makes a difference. Wow, what do you know...Ryan has a newer coach, and now they are winning! BGA has underachieved for years...now, new coach, and they are winning! Ensworth has a new program, and now they are winning! What about the public schools? Ravenwood has a start up school, and in 2 years is a state champion! Why, just go over there...very involved parents, and one of the best coaches around...they certainly don't overwhelm anyone with their athleticism, but you watch them play, they play with heart, and that comes from the top down. That is why BA became so good so fast, Coach Flatt has heart, and everyone around him believed and did more than they thought they could.
  8. I took notice of the 32 Sr's...BA has a roster with 41 Jr/Sr, and 53 Fr/Soph, with the majority of starters being underclassmen...next few years look good!
  9. I agree with you itzme, BA has won all year with outstanding defense but an offense that is still a work in progress. Running game is good, but passing is sporadic. Cody Nelson has protected the football well all year, and tonight's interception in the first half was one of the few he has thrown all year. He has completed about 60% of his passes, mostly short possession type routes, but he continues to overthrow open receivers downfield (Jackson Boyd and Josh Pleasant tonight) and hestitates and holds on to the ball a little long in the pocket. I like him as our QB, and he will continue to develop and be a great one. Just a Soph in a new, complicated offensive. I am pleasantly surprised we are 7-1 after this schedule, and am not discouraged. We have BGA, which we should win, and then an open week to get better, and CJ can get that ankle healed. We beat MBA in a rematch, if we get one. Penalties tonight put us in 3rd and long, not a good down for us, and 4 fumbles (even though we recovered all of them) just kills momentum, a snap over Cody's head deep in our territory created a short field for MBA which they took advantage of. Our D played very well...adequate offensive production and fewer mistakes swings this game to BA. All that being said, MBA is very, very good, and talented, and very well coached. They were the better team tonight, and their play had a lot to do with our mistakes! MBA is a class school and program, I loved the atomosphere there tonight.
  10. don't know this for a fact, just speculation on my part, but I would not be surprised if BA spent the entire week prior to the JPII game preparing for MBA. JPII came in 0-6, giving up 45+ pts. per game, and scoring 15/game. They were never a threat, start 7 players both ways, so depth a problem, etc. This could explain JPII popping some big plays and having some early success moving he ball. If I were coach, I would give JPII a quick look/study, but use that practice time to prepare for the MBA game. I believe MBA will be able to run the ball on BA, they have a lot of talent on that side of the ball. MBA is always prepared, has plenty of great athletes, and play very hard. They have a great coaching staff, and the players just love the new coach. Last year's team was an aberration since they had so many injuries. They realize they are the underdog, so they will be sky high. That being said, BA's defense is just fantastic, and very fast. If MBA has to pass, BA D line will force quick throws, and that has resulted in mistakes for other teams all year. A sack or two, putting MBA in 3rd and long, plays to BA's advantage. MBA's best chance to pull out a win is to make BA one dimensional and take away the pass. BA QB is young, and has grown a lot over the year, and passing game has struggled at times. Early in the year, other teams loaded up to stop the run game, and dared BA to pass, which they were not very effective at doing. It makes CJ's stats all the more impressive, for so many of his yards have been VERY TOUGH yards, against 8-9 players in the box. If BA QB struggles, then a very close game, very evenly matched. Turnovers/Special teams probably decides game. If BA QB has some success throwing it, BA has a big advantage IMO, the BA's QB has shown a lot of growth in recent games. This game will be very close
  11. Offensive side of the line: BA has a better passing attack than MBA. MBA will be throwing to the big Tight-ends to see if they break tackle and add yardage after catch. BA will be more open and passing down the sidelines. Mostly likely the ball will sail three yards out-of-bounds but the Ref??™s will call defensive inference on the corners to keep the drives alive. If MBA can stay in front of the receiver and press on sideline passes, two things will happen. 1) Defensive interference call on the cornerback, 2) Interception if the corner can get turned around and the ball is thrown short, then a flag for defensive interference to overturn the interception. Chris Jordon coming out of the backfield for short-dump passes is effective. Scott Jordon has tendency to break initial tackles for extra yardage. MBA needs to hit hard and wrap up. BA tendency is to run in the three-hole. BA left tackle and guard are consistent on will clearing the hole for a five yard run by any of the BA running back. Rapbwood, this is one of the most bizarre comments I have read. BA's passing attack relies solely on corrupt referees? Also, I vote none of your business regarding Chris Jordan and whether he receives tuition assistance. What about your family's finances? Why not open that up to the board.
  12. considering that MBA owns the winning record in this series, and assuming THEDUDEWITHTUDE's logic (that winners must cheat), MBA must have a superior recruiting coordinator...MBA has had an outstanding program for decades, multiple state championships, storied tradition...why not accuse them of recruiting, because it obviously is not possible to win with OUTSTANDING coaching, commited parents and players, and high expectations... what a tired argument
  13. yes brentwoodacademy.com
  14. trust me, Westside doesn't want any part of BA next year, or the year after that, and the year after that. BA has 53 Fresh/Soph on a roster of 94, so 41 Jr/Sr. Westside dressed 54 Jr/Sr with a roster of 60. Future looks pretty good for BA with those numbers, not so good for Westside. As far as the best in the state, you never know from year to year, but I would say that scheduling McCallie (last year DII runner up), Ravenwood (last year 5A runner up), Smyrna (last year 5A Champ), along with MBA (long time power), and Westside (ranked #2 in State as of the game, and 11-2 last year) constitutes a challenging schedule.

  16. sorry that he was the one representative of Westside that stood out...I was at the game and their guys played hard and with class...had lots of fans come up, great support. i was impressed with everything I saw about them. Don't think Ramsrule is representative of the team and fans as a whole
  17. Ramsrule is having crow for dinner tonight and I quote...BA 21 Westside 0
  18. BA 21 Westside 0 total domination by BA Defense. Offense came alive second half. A lot of Chris Jordan too.
  19. very well said flyby...have watched BA football for years, and whether they win or lose, they will be gentlemen. I have seen every game this year, the offense is still a work in progress, but that defense! I have never seen such a dominating front...this will be a great game.
