  1. Goodpasture 26 Camden 24 Final
  2. Zaceus is a fantastic basketball player for CPA that played DE on the football team. Arguably one of the best basketball prospects in the state. I'm not gonna be a moron and say he's Jevon Kearse (in his heyday). I was just pointing out he is extremely athletic, you know a kid who can probably touch the top of the square on the backboard. Sounds like Camden has good talent at that position too. Who knows, GP may try to trap, but then from what I hear they'll have to deal with the possible Mr. Football. I'm sure they'll go inside and outside and keep working both to see which of any of the two options is most productive.
  3. Do you know whether or not Camden has a defensive end with the size, wingspan and athleticism as Zaceus? If so, your defensive end allignment suggestion sounds like a great idea.
  4. Oh, I forgot the QB. I think we're better this year at QB. Coleman was tough, solid, ran the wing-t well last year. However, I think Whit runs it just as well and he seems to be faster than Coleman and we seem to have improved in our passing game vs. last year. Whit I think has two td's of 75 yards running. Once he's outside on that naked boot he's gone. Anyway, didn't want to forget the QB, figured you'd want to know.
  5. I asked because I don't have access to game film like the teams do. I'm sure both teams have already seen film on what each other can do. About the fullback, you've got to cut me some slack on that. That is all the Camden fans have talked about. I'd love to hear about some of the other weapons. If there are some, believe me if you're trying to hide it from GP I'm sure they already know. I'm not worried about GP being prepared for Camden as far as knowing their personnel. GP had scouts last week at Camden's game plus they have game film. Camden had scouts last week at the CPA game plus they've got film. Both teams already know about each other. I was hoping this thread might provide some information for those of us on both sides who don't know the other team. I tell you what, I'll cough up some GP info for you. Maybe some one from Camden will reciprocate. Here goes: #22 very fast rb, scatback, great cover corner, solid tackler, great returner #24 very fast rb, bigger stronger than #22 great defender can play linebacker or db, great returner #9 fast back, great DB, as a sophomore hit a Huntingdon WR so hard it sounded like someone took an aluminum bat and hit the kid in the helmet, he's a head hunter and he runs about a 4.5 #4 solid fullback, solid defender, no nonsense, just gets it done #30 solid fullback also, leading tackler by a landslide on defense at linebacker #77 mountain, big strong, paves the way for backs #5 good DB, not as fast as #22, but smart in coverage, uses sidelines as his friend #17, WR, smart, fast, good hands Most of the linemen are no nonsense. Do their assignments. Same thing we've done for 20 plus years running the wing T. Traps, dives, Guards that can run out to pull. Fast backs running behind them looking for daylight to turn on the gas. Defense, not as big as year's past but they can hit. The misconception sometimes about GP and other city schools is that they might be soft and not tough like country kids. GP has always taken pride on hitting and toughness because we've been challenged we're not tough like the country kids. We know country kids are tough, we pride ourselves on being tough too. I'm sure the Camden kids have seen some of our crack-back blocking. I think someone mentioned head on a swivle. Probably a good suggestion.
  6. Easy Cougar Brown. Don't count those chickens. Don't know how far you go back with GP's program, but you should know we've been on the winning and losing end of some of these public/private matchups. Should we beat Camden? Probably. If we play our best football we should beat them. However, although I don't put a whole lot of stock in rankings, ratings, etc, but Camden's Sonny Moore's rating is 116.60 and DCA's Sonny Moore's rating is 116.18. Well GP can puff out our chest and say, yeah well our rating is 129.13, second only to Alcoa's rating. You know what it don't mean squat. DCA was rated well below us and we know what happened. I for one will show Camden all due respect. Sure they got throttled by CPA last year and we just beat CPA back to back, but that was last year. We need to worry about this year. Camden folks I hope this is a mistake free football game on both sides where everyone will know both teams played at their best. At the end, may the best team win. Frankly, I want it to be GP. But hey, if you're good enough to take us down. Congrats and you'll deserve all due respect.
  7. Other than running their fullback, what else does Camden do offensively or is that it?
  8. I don't want to turn one of these matchup threads into a public/private thread. I believe there's a public/private thread dedicated on Coach T. However, I'll say one thing and I'll never say anything else again about it. Milan has beaten GP on the way to state titles and has beaten Lipscomb in the title game. Huntingdon has beaten Lipscomb in the the title game. Alcoa has beaten GP on three occasions in the title game and has beaten Lipscomb on the way to a title. This is only a suggestion, but maybe the public schools should stop worrying about what the privates are doing and see what Milan, Huntingdon and Alcoa have done to win their titles. Currently, the 2A power is a public school not a private. It's easy to target GP. In actuality Alcoa is the gold standard and I believe Milan has one more over all championship than GP (4 vs 3). Don't you think Milan and Huntingdon enjoyed those championships more because they were at the expense of some private schools. Most people who are successful worry about what they can control not what they can't. All I know historically, Huntingdon, Milan and Alcoa have not shun away from the challenge of matchups with the privates. They have seemed to embrace it. It all comes down to fundamentals, blocking, tackling, execution. Sure Alcoa has had a run with great talent. Huntingdon had Chris Donald. But even GP's last title came when Patrick Turner was a back up receiver when he was a Freshmen. GP is successful in a large part because we've run the same system , had the same coach and like many schools, tradition. Sure, it's a free country. This forum encourages opinion. I know I'll never change anti-private sentiment. However, I only ask folks to consider how Milan, Huntingdon and Alcoa have done it. With that said, good luck to HC/LC. Hope there's no injuries. If GP is fortunate enough to advance, may the best team win in the quarters, no excuses, just a hard nose game with the best man left standing. May the Lord bless and keep you all. Safe travels this week for those going to see the matchups across the state.
  9. Actually we would. Beat em in the semi's on the way to our '01 title.
  10. I was talking to Chris Sanders at a golf scramble the week of the first CPA/GP game and he was bragging on all of our RB's. I told him, yeah, we've got a bunch of great backs, but you've got Conner and Trip. Conner and Trip counter all of our backs. It looks like we were both right. Again, a shame somebody had to lose so soon. From a spiritual perspective it's a comfort to me young me like Conner and Trip are a part of God's army. That gives me hope for the future. God bless all of the folks at CPA. You guys are a class act. Hope we perform as well at Camden this year as you did last year.
  11. Divepix, what schools are recruiting Conner and Trip? Any offers? Will Conner play QB in college or are the schools talking to him about moving to tight end or another position?
  12. Are you asking about the CPA quarterback or the Camden fullback? I think someone responded about the Camden fullback. As far as Conner Lowry (sp?) the QB from CPA, I don't know who he's considering or who has offered. He would probably need to go somewhere that runs the spread. He's got limited options in the SEC if that's the case. If he doesn't want to play quarterback he probably could be a tight end or maybe even a fullback/h-back at a lot of places. He's a tough, smart kid. It's a shame his team had to lose so early. As I said before, Camden and GP are both aware of his talents. Hopefully, we can all watch him on Saturdays somewhere in the SEC. Maybe some CPA fans are browsing this thread and they can tell us more.
  13. The best fullback GP has faced this year is CPA's quarterback. That guy is Tim Tebow. Camden should remember him from last year. GP was lucky to beat them once, much less two times back to back. You talkin' about studs. He should officially change his name from Conner to S-T-U-D. Whoever gets him in college will be very lucky.
  14. Thanks. I certainly appreciate the perspective of a Milan fan. I don't believe I've ever come across a Milan fan who doesn't know his football. Still waiting to hear from someone from Camden to give me their thoughts. Come on Camden fans. Somebody give me an x and 0 breakdown of your team.
  15. Don't know anything about Camden's team. Can someone from Camden break down the team? Style of offense. Style of defense. Team size. Team speed. Skill players, playmakers on offense. Run vs. pass ratio. Playmakers, big hitters on defense. Special teams, quality of punter, place kicker, kickoff and punt returners (any returned for td's this year). Thanks in advance for any response.
  16. Yeah, I believe Jerry Meyer was the most notable in basketball. More recently, what about Ethan in football? You're right about the pre-first element. If you elect to do pre-first for your child they will be older as a senior. I guess in a sense you would be holding them back when their 6 years old. If they ultimately become a good athlete in high school their physical maturation would be a bonus.
  17. If that's the case you could easily intentionally hold kids back if you thought as a parent that was the best thing for your child especially if they might have a better shot at a scholarship by being more physically mature. Most kids turn 18 DURING their senior year unless you were one of the unfortunate "younger" kids who got his driver's license after everyone else and turned 18 after graduation because you had a summer birthday. Most kids wouldn't be 19 before September 1st. It seems holding a kid back is an option. Maybe it's an option Lipscomb has exercised to benefit it's program. I've heard they do that, but I certainly don't want to speak for them. Maybe they have. Maybe they haven't. Maybe they've done it from time to time. If they have, we all know another year of growth could make a difference in a kid's physical development. Something to consider for schools who are trying to compete with Lipscomb if in fact they do this.
  18. What about having your kids repeat 8th grade? Is it true Lipscomb has historically held back athletes in 8th grade so they'll be stronger, faster, more familiar with the system? I'm assuming if Lipscomb does this it's allowed by the TSSAA. If so, maybe some of the publics should hold their good athletes back so their kids will be turning 19 instead of 18 during their senior year. At that age one more year of physical maturation makes a ton of difference.
  19. GP 43 CPA 32 Sorry Divepix. Kept waiting for you to update. I got the score off Fox 17 sports and confirmed on TSSAA website. Coach T scoreboard had the halftime score all night.
  20. Thanks. The reason I asked about the run/pass ratio was to get an idea on how GP will defend CC. In GP's state championship victory against Martin Westview (when Justin Harrell played for Westview) GP stacked the line of scrimmage. In fact, it wasn't 8 men in the box it was more like all 11 on the line daring Westview to throw. In that game Westview never threw and GP shut down the run. I realize that was a few years ago and there's different personnel and there's been some defensive coaching changes for GP. I was curious to see if CC passed enough to keep people honest. If you're rushing for 300 yards a game you're not passing much. GP doesn't pass much either. Although, when they do, their receivers are dependable and their backs are good in space once they catch the ball. Should be an interesting match-up.
  21. Can someone from Coffee County give me a profile of Robbie Gonzales? Who's recruiting him? Is he leaning towards a particular school? What's his style of play? Is he just a big kid taking up space or is he a beast, blessed with great size and tenacity? Also, does Coffee County pass at all or do they run it 99.9% of the time? Whoever responds, thanks for the info.
  22. Coffee County fans you might want to hear this sooner rather than later, this is GP's Homecoming game. It was not scheduled out of disrespect for Coffee County. This game was selected as the Homecoming game because GP has only 4 home games this year. The first two games were the first two weeks in September and historically GP always has homecoming in October. Next week's game (CPA) is also a home game, but the last home game of the year is always Senior night. So, just so we can go ahead and eliminate any talk of disrespect, etc. GP had to make someone the Homecoming game and it just happened to be you. We know you're 5A. We know you have one of the best prospects in the state. We know you're doing very well in your region. With that being said, have a safe trip to Madison. Hope there are no injuries. Hope you continue to do well this year in 5A. This game should be beneficial for both teams. It will get GP ready for a tough game with CPA and the playoffs. Coffee County should benefit from playing a GP team who has proven it can play at a high level, most of the time.
  23. I'm the son of Macon County parents. Although I was raised in Nashville, my mom was from Lafayette and my dad was from Red Boiling Springs. During family gatherings when I visit uncles, cousins, etc. who live in Lafayette, Hartsville, Carthage and Red Springs we've discussed specifically Red Springs losing football record in addition to the lack of alot of success for Macon County. Also, we've wondered why Trousdale County and Smith County can field good programs and usually Macon County and Red Springs can't. I've suggested to my relatives who live there maybe there should just be one big high school combining Red Springs and Macon County. My relatives tell me historically both sides have been resistant to doing this. I'd be curious to know what the folks in Macon County think about this idea, either for or against and why. cagey Nashvillian with Macon County blood
  24. Mustang/Volunteer faithful please answer the following: Does Zach need to have a better game than Austin for Lipscomb to beat GC?orDoes Austin need to have a better game than Zach for UT to beat Bama?
  25. Might want to change your user name sport. Wasn't too difficult to find out your name, position and height/weight off The Tennessean website. Probably not a good idea to give the Cougars a specific target on Friday, assuming you play. 2006 3A state runner up crappy? 2006 5A state runner up crappy?
