  1. Nail biter.....45-44 Final Score Goodpasture wins when Macon went for 2 with no time left on the clock. Grace is stopped on the 1/2 yard line.
  2. Where can I find the list of young men who were named to the "All District" "All Region" and "All State" teams. I've searched everywhere and I can't find anything on this year. Thanks for any help.
  3. Macon comes out flat and emotionless for the first quarter every game....they've done it for years now. If the coaching staff could get these kids excited, romping and stomping before the game starts, I think they could play so much better but when it takes them a full quarter to get mad enough to play hard, it's too late to catch up then! I've heard, (don't know how true it is) that the players are made to be quiet, sit around in the field house doing nothing so they can get mentally prepared for the game for hours before it even starts. They go to that fieldhouse before 2 pm and the game doesn't start till 7. Why in the world would you want these kids to just sit around and be quiet, get lazy and bored for 5 hours before the game even starts? That's just crazy. Do all schools do this? These boys don't have anything to reflect on during "quiet time" except losses. They just sit around and get nervous. They don't know what it feels like to win so they can't reflect on that???? They DO NOT need to sit around and think at all...they need to get wound up and the wilder the better. I witnessed the 1 on 1 drill at practice one night and good grief, I thought they were going to kill each other. Those kids got wild, they got loud and they hit like I've never seen them hit in a game EVER, they loved it and they half killed each other! That is the kind of emotion we need to see in the games. Get those boys fired up! I'd give my right arm if the coach would try this just once before a game, I think the difference would be amazing. These boys do not know how to turn the emotions/adreniline off and on when needed. So get them turned on before the game starts! Momentum is everything in high school sports. When you've got the adreniline pumping things just happen! Cook did the same thing before games and so did Goolsby.........these kids don't need to sit around......that ain't working, so try something new and different. Get them fired up for the game! If any of you posters know the coaching staff, put a bug in their ear, it can't hurt to try it!
  4. Everything with the Tigers seems to be going well. Goolsby has been welcomed with open arms from the players and parents! I have no doubt the fans will follow suit when they see THIS team on the field. We've had a rough last few years and we are all very excited about the upcoming season. Yes, we have a tough schedule, one I wouldn't wish on anyone but I think the enthusiasim and the hard work will pay off. They are pumped up big! The boys really like the new offense and they are feeding off of Goolsby's personality! They can't wait for the first day with pads! Goolsby seems to be a fair & honest coach but at the same time he is really tough and that is exactly what these boys need after what they have been through! Nobody that wasn't there or didn't have a kid on the team that would tell what was being said and done has no idea what all really went on in the past few years at Macon and really should just keep their opinions to themselves. Players already know at this point, if they want to play they have to pay the price with hard work. Nobody will walk onto that field because of who he is or who he knows. I don't think we'll see any "this is Johnny's son so I'm playing him even if he doesn't know which direction we are going on the field". The best 11 will be on that field and that is the way it should be. I hope mine is there and he does too but we both know that winning is the ultimate goal and if it takes my kid being on the sideline to accomplish that, that is what needs to happen and my son is good with that......he wants to win!
  5. I think Trousdale is in for a BIG suprise this year!
  6. Thoughts and prayers go out to all of them from Macon County!
  7. If Cook wants the defense line to improve, he's gonna have to put more than 3 men on the line of scrimmage, that's pretty clear to everyone that has watched this team the last few years. He's got enough big strong boys that he could & should romp and stomp on defense, if and only if he positions them right and uses the right defense. Any offense that doesn't have the sense to spread and run it through those gaps big enough for a truck to drive through is crazy. They could do it all night long and we would never stop it cause he certainly won't change his game plan when he sees something NOT working! He goes in with a plan and he sticks to it, no matter what. Any coach with experience will tell you that you have to be able and willing to adjust your plans midstream if you want to win ballgames and that is something this team does not do. Why in the world would you not change if you see something is not working? What have you got to lose by trying something else? If it ain't working at least try something different to fix it...dont' just keep doing the same thing over and over and over again ... As a coach you have got to be willing to adapt your plans whether you want to or not, that's how you win. I have no doubt those coaches and those boys want to win but they must be willing to adapt to do it. You know, old school football works, ain't a thing wrong with it! New fangle dangle isn't always the answer no matter how much you want it to work. He's got talent to work with, no I don't think he has any SUPERSTARS but that team has talent if they stick to fundamentals, they want to win and they are willing to work hard to do it, he just needs to turn it loose, keep it simple and let them play! I wish them all the luck in the world this season but unless some things change and change soon, they are in for another long season and I hate it for the boys.
  8. Why wouldn't they remember... Cancelling two freshman games to you might be nothing and may seem meaningless and to the coaches it might mean nothing and it may seem meaningless but to those players who have worked so hard, I'm sure it means a great deal right now........in time no, I'm sure when they look back it won't seem as much of a big deal but yes right now to them sure it is.....they are kids. If they will cancel freshman games why wouldn't they cancel high school games..........they got the power.......they can do whatever they want whenever they want. How do you know anyone has meddled in anything...........cause you heard it here or are you just assuming it? I guess it's all just a matter of opinion and everyone seems to have one, those that were there and those that weren't but I really fail to see how anyone can make any kinds of comments good or bad if they weren't there to see it and hear it first hand.........
  9. They had 2 more games scheduled this year...............BUT they have 3 more years with this in the backs of their minds.! Do you honestly think they will forget it ? Dont' you think they will ask themselves every time they hear any controversy at all "Will the coach cancel the season again over this?" Sure they will! Not sure what you are trying to say with this statement, care to clarify? "I see why Macon is in the shape they are"
  10. Don't you figure all the coaches are behind Cook or at least appear to be............hey, they want to keep their jobs but I'd love to know how they actually feel about it.
  11. I think the biggest concern was the GV running back. Woodmore. Folks, I am sorry but he is a freshman and you will have to deal with him for 3 more years if you elect to schedule GV. He is just one of thoes exceptional kids that comes along very rarely. Woodmore is an awesome player, absolutely and I'm sure he will get better year after year........I look forward to watching him mature and get better! Also that was a good game and it was decided by just 1 point. Not like it was a blowout. That should be considered. It was an great game........I love the close ones and typically that's what gets the crowd so excited...those kinds of games keep the crowds in the stands on game night but this time........someone took offense to it for some reason............I still don't in my mind think the season cancellation has anything to do with that game or folks doing anything at that game..............it has to be more to it than what I saw and heard. Maybe someone is carrying a big chip on their shoulder over something said or done in the past and it didn't take much to set them off ???? It's done now but that doesn't make it right. I've never had a problem with the coaches and no I don't always agree with them nor their game plans but I did just loose a great deal of respect for them over this and it won't easily be earned back. They have let those boys down......I don't care how you look at it.....those boys earned the right to play those games.......they've worked too hard for too long....they have sweated, they have puked, they have hurt, they have bleed, they have played injured when they shouldn't have, they did everything those coaches asked of them....and some of them even more than was asked.........they all stuck it out for one reason.......they wanted to PLAY.............what did all the above get them? A cancelled season! Sorry folks but the coaches dropped the ball this time!
  12. I am talking about the freshman game..........nothing out of the norm for any football game happened so I don't understand the reasoning behind cancelling their season. Yes, after the high school game Friday night ..........I saw some of the parents (and yes they appeared angry) go onto the field to question the coaches about why the freshman season was cancelled...as far as what was said on that field by those parents and coaches, I can't say...I did not hear it myself so I don't really know. I will say that there is a time and place for everything and after the Friday night game and on the field was not the time nor the place.
  13. I was at that ballgame and I can tell you....it has all been blown WAY out of proportion......for what reason... I'm not sure but I do know that there was no more said at that ballgame than any other I've ever been to and I can say I've been to plenty....not only at Macon but surrounding teams as well. I did not hear any cussing nor fowl language and I never heard not one person yell at the Macon coaching staff about anything. I have at past games but not at this particular game. I did hear a few yell "put the rest of your Juniors in"...referring to the fact that the opposing team was made up of not only freshman but upperclassmen as well. In my opinion, I'm glad to see Macon freshman playing upperclassmen, no they don't always win but they learn a whole lot more playing upperclassmen than they would a freshman only team. I guess some people would rather play freshman only teams just to better they're chances of a win but I would rather the team be challenged and learn for the future and this team of freshman certainly have a bright one if the coaching staff and community will let them. The crowd was small and I tend to tone out the noise but I really feel like if things had gotten as bad as everyone is trying to let on, I certainly would have taken notice of that fact. I've seen many games where the crowd itself has gotten warnings and penalties over getting carried away yet in this game no warnings, no penalties, nothing. Now don't you think that if it was as bad as people are trying to make out that at least a warning would have gone out to the crowd? Yes, there were people yelling at the refs but what football game have you EVER been to where that didn't happen. When the ref didn't call a blatant face mask....yes there was yelling and when a block in the back was called when it was clearly not a block in the back...yes there was yelling, when blatant things happened and no calls were made...yes there was yelling but it that's not expected then the refs need to find new jobs cause they don't have the backbone for this one. I'm afraid those types of things always have and will always happen and they are to be expected. Can you really believe that an entire ball game can be played with freshman players and they only had 2 penalties between both teams the entire game..........doesn't happen. Most penalties are not intentional but come on...be realistic, freshman screw up and you are going to have penalties. Yes, the crowd was yelling "do you have a flag", "Oh my gawd, he does have a flag" when they finally threw one but come on ........I really don't think that is anything to get sooooo upset about...do you? I was there the entire game and for several minutes afterwards and I never saw a single person confront anyone from the opposing team/coaches/opposing fans nor the refs with threats or anything near it so how people are coming up with such nonsense is beyond me. If the coaching staff doesn't think these kinds of things and worse are said at every game...then they haven't been listening too closely. Maybe the headsets, the cheerleaders, the band, the larger crowds and what not drown out the most of it.........but the same things are said and I've been to every game, high school and freshman.......heck they even say the same things at the Pee Wee and Jr High games that I've attended....it's just for some reason, someone took great offense this time..........and I really wish I understood why? I've seen refs threatened, coaches threatened and more at other area games (not Macon) but none of that took place at this game nor came anywhere near it that I could see. I think someone just wants to stir up things to take the light off the losing myself but that's just my opinion. There was a recent letter to the editor of the Macon county paper addressed to the head football coach and it wasn't very nice ...maybe it all stems from that, feelings hurt, feathers ruffled etc.....maybe it's the fact that the high school team and the freshman team are both having a lossing season (again), who knows but what I do know is that those young boys have given those coaches and that community everything they've got over the last several months and it is very unfair of anyone to cancel the remainder of their season.......those boys did nothing wrong but they are the ones being punished. Does the coach not think he will lose a bit a respect from those players over being too hot tempered and quck to cancel their season? He's doing this to them and yes they will remember. In my opinion...no one deserves punishment........because nothing out of the norm happened!
