  1. I am not sure where I stand on this topic. Even though this board is dedicated to coaching positions...we have obviously gotten off topic. But just for curiousity sake let's look at something... Where have some of the best players from the last 5-10 years from TN come from?? I am naming ones off the top of my head--and all the ones I can come up with are from Middle TN, but I am sure it's just because that's where I live...feel free to name others. Jamont Gordon - Glencliff - Miss St./Undrafted Brandon Wright - Brentwood Academy - UNC/NBA Wayne Chism - Bolivar - Tenn/? Corey Brewer - Portland - Florida/NBA John Jenkins - Station Camp - Vandy/? Joe Jackson - ? I don't know...just some thoughts I had. It would appear that while Memphis schools are usually deeper in talent--just as many if not more premier players come from other areas of the state as well... I am sure that will raise plenty of controversy
  2. If it makes you feel any better Mrob...he'll definitely do a better job than your boy VOSS!
  3. Welcome back Coach Wortman! This is a great hire. He will do a fantastic job! And I disagree that Siegel is still the team to beat...
  4. Does anyone else find it interesting the BOYS basketball coaching changes in Rutherford Co in the last 4 years?! It's crazy... 06-07 LaVergne coach resigns; Smyrna coach resigns 07-08 Siegel coach retires from coaching 08-09 Oakland coach retires from coaching 09-10 Blackman and Riverdale coaches resign I could be wrong on the year for Siegel coach, but still...very interesting. 5 years ago Rutherford Co. had a totally different look to it than it will next year!
  5. Howdoitknow...have you seen Howard this year?
  6. Siegel has a different coach this year than they had when they beat Antioch. That is definitely a factor. That and the fact that Melrose is loaded!
  7. I like NE and Melrose in the ship, Melrose winning by single digits.
  8. I bet they don't name anyone until after Rutherford Co. spring break.
  9. Should be a very intriguing tourney...can't wait!
  10. In other words...don't blame the TSSAA! Also, back to what I said about Memphis schools not wanting to play DC. It wouldn't be because they are scared...but because Memphis schools often see playing AT another smaller school in West TN as a lose lose... Either 1) They show up and win--and everyone says---well of course they won--they are supposed to. or 2) They show up and get beat--and everyone says--wow Memphis school got beat by smaller rural school..etc. Now if you wanna go to Memphis and play--I'm sure they will welcome it.
  11. If any team outside of Memphis wins in AAA my bet would be on Clarksville Northeast. They are not the best team left--but perhaps the most complete. IMHO. Key players are: SR. G Telvin James 5'11- a bit irradic, but can score with the best guards--except JJ SO. F Alex Poythress 6'7- Already being looked at by UT, VU (I believe Commodores already offered), and Purdue among many other SEC schools. Not a great scorer yet--but an unbelievable rebounder. NE has good team size, quickness and balanced scoring. But their ability to guard is what could get them a championship. BUT my $ would be on Memphis. Siegel has the talent, but lack identity and injuries have hurt them. Also don't have much faith in coach. Don't over look Beech. (No matter how much you prepare for Beech and the 1-3-1, it doesnt compare to when you are on the floor with them.) Beech and NE were both in Murfreesboro last year--so they are capable of pulling off a win...
  12. Draws could have been laid out on Tuesday morning. Think about how frustrating it must be for teams/coaches to be practicing everyday, and have no idea who they are about to play.
  13. We probably won't know anything for another couple weeks. Rutherford Co is about to go on Spring break March 19th...prolly wont have a decision before that.
  14. If those are the real canidates, then I am pulling for a "Kevin". nm
  15. I'll be surprised if any of the "Memphis Schools" wanna come visit DC for a regular season matchup. DC has a great home crowd and the "Memphis Schools" as a whole like to think of themselves as large D-1 schools do in NCAA. HOWEVER---While I agree that the Martin Christmas tourney isn't helping DC establish itself...perhaps DC is best served by NOT playing any Memphis schools until this time of the year. DC has a unique style for which it is hard to prepare for...perhaps DC's biggest advantage in future games facing Memphis schools is the fact that they haven't played them all year. (Just a thought) DC will be better in the years to come as they are still very young. They WILL miss big boy inside, but have bright future ahead of them.
  16. Young enough to relate to them? hahaha. Has nothing to do with it bra.
  17. Every coach chases talent when looking for a new job. Most coaches do anyways. And don't be fooled Blackman has talent. Freshman team went 17-1 and won the county tourney. I believe their freshman have been really good for several years in a row now--but hasn't translated into success at the Varsity level. Some transfering, quitting, etc. have led to that. Murfreesboro is one of the best athletic areas in the state. Blackman should be no different. Whoever they hire, will find enough "talent" to get the Blaze heading in the right direction. Sometimes it just takes a fresh voice. I hope Woodson gets it. He's a good dude.
  18. Telvin James is the kid everyone is referring to as being in "the doghouse" with Cooper. And yes, he does have some problems there. And that's why he didn't play against HC. Without him on the floor they are definitely a different team. He was back against Springfield however. See below... "Northeast guard Telvin James knocked down two 3-pointers to open the game and the Eagles (5-0, 4-0) would never trail. James had a strong game pitted against one of the state's best guards in Cory Stanton. James was given the task of guarding Stanton, and he held the Yellow Jackets star to only eight points in the first half. Stanton would finish with 23 points. James would end the night with 20 points. "I thought (Telvin) was the best player out on the court," Cooper said. "He got everyone involved in the game and he was taking some really good rhythm shots too. When he's focused and motivated he can have games like (Tuesday) night."" When he's with them---it will be a tall task for anyone to stay with them. Not saying they won't get beat--but saying they have the potential not to. Every team usually goes through some bad games, but NE is just soo loaded that they may be able to overcome some things and still remain perfect. They have Memphis-like talent. *After saying all that--I am not from NE, nor do I cheer for them, but just stating my opinion on how I see things.
  19. Northeast by +10 over West Creek. They are too deep and too big. They may make it through the entire district season without a loss. They are really impressive.
  20. Agreed. Corey is a great young man. Very polite. Very considerate. A great competitor, but quick to acknowledge the other team's efforts quickly afterwards. Can't say enough about what a sharp, intellegent and polite leader he is. Kenwood is MUCH improved over the last few years. Game of the week: Springfield/NW. IMO this is the battle of two teams carving out their respective spots in the top 4/5 teams in the district. Could be a pivotal game. Also, don't forget HC goes TO Northeast Friday--although with HC not completely healthy--NE wins by double digits.
  21. I heard they were gonna have a play in game between 8 and 9 to see who gets to play #1.... Kinda like march madness There IS a play in game. 1 plays winner of 8/9.
  22. Stanton is good, but I think the loss of a few key players around him will show to be more of a factor than most think. Stanton is a solid high school player, but he is not an unstoppable force every single night. I'll say this...if he is good enough to single-handedly carry his team to the number 2 spot in the district or even number 1, then he should be going bigger than Wright State. But Corey has a bright future ahead of him and I wish him all the luck in the world. And I hope they have a great season, but I just don't see him being able to do it virtually by himself. Northeast and HC have way more TEAM Fire Power.
  23. 1. Henry Co. has all the pieces to win it this year. 2. Northeast - RELOADED 3. Northwest - Is finally starting to get things turned around. 4. Springfield - Without as good of secondary options, Stanton will have trouble this year. 5. Kenwood - better athletes than the rest (below them) 6. Clarksville, Rossview, Dickson (in any order--to hard to tell) 9. WC
  24. I don't know what the TSSAA says but I can promise you that the boys and girls games are on different days.
  25. The girls first round region games are being played on Friday night, and the boys on Saturday.
