Since you all got to hear from the Coalfield fans, it's time to hear the other side of the story. Yes, a fan was taken off the field by police after the scuffle. He was not associated with the team or any player. I heard a Devil Coach ask who that guy was. It's hard to tell what started the fight but it came on the play right after Coalfield's big #74 went down. injured after being double-teamed by two offensive lineman. That tells me that maybe someone was retaliating.
If playing to the whistle and getting after people is dirty then I guess the Devils are guilty. They had to listen all week to how they've never beaten Coalfield, including from the Coalfield coach in the newspaper. They get to read on this board all week how the physical Coalfield team will dominate our speedy team. Well, the Devils got tired of hearing it and responded with some tough physical play of their own. Physical and dirty are not the same thing.
There was no taunting after the game. The coaches sent the players, under principal's orders, off the field immediately after the horn sounded. They never got a chance to enjoy the win on the field so they celebrated outside the field house. It so happens the field house is on a hill overlooking the stadium so everyone can see it. They did not direct any of the celebrating towards Coalfield.
Funny how Harriman is the bad guy here and no one from Coalfield remembers how the devils needed a police escort just to get off the field at halftime there last year because the the Coalfield coach was going psycho. This was a huge win for the devils. There were two teams out there tonight that wanted it bad and I'm sure neither side was completely innocent. But, the Blue Devils shouldn't be trashed here just becuase they won a game and some people can't admit the better team won.
