  1. It should never be their time to host. There is nowhere to sit, and no way to cover the field. At least some of the schools have field tarps. The coaches have done a good job with what they have had to deal with. They need to understand that it is about sending our best representatives to the sub state and beyond. As it stands now the two advancing teams are going to be tired and pitching rotations will be screwed. The coaches could look at the weather forecast and see that it was likely going to rain. They were given an opportunity to move the location. As usual it was county vs. city schools. THS, SH, and DB wanted to move it to DB. I don't see what advantage it gives the city schools other than DB gets to play on its home field. Next year the tournament is to be played at Boone. Same thing. Less than 100 seats and no tarp. They split the gate receipts so there is very little money to be made. THey need to wisen up.
  2. After last night's games (TN High over Science Hill and South over Boone) do we have any different opinions on how the Big 9 will shake out.
  3. 2 aces is one more than every other team in the conference has. NatPat would be a solid two on many teams in this conference as well as Sharpe. McKinney and Norris have to be near the top when it comes to 1-2 pitchers in the state.
  4. McKinney was 5 for 5 with at least 7RBIs. He was awesome last night.
  5. Your kid didn't make the varsity huh!
  6. Any scrimmages in the Big 9 yet?
  7. THS is going to Florida for the Disney tournament. They leave tomorrow.
  8. How about those Lady Vikings going to DB and winning. Good game all around. To beat the preseason #1 team with Montgomery only scoring 12 says a lot about the depth of the Vikings. Might be a long year for the rest of the Big 9.
  9. The reason for 2 of the touchdown passes was our best corner getting beat in one on one. Maybe we should have helped over the top, but I think we expect him to be able to cover better. Hopefully it was a fluke, as he has been solid all year.
  10. Less than 30 hours to kickoff. I'm glad to see this thread get back to the THS vs. South game. Honestly as a Viking supporter I still recognize that South is the favorite in this game. If you take both teams body of work over this season South deserves to be the favorite. This being said if Beedle truly is out that changes things alot. South relies heavily on running behind that monster. Phillips being hurt is bad enough. I think the Vikings can definitely pull the upset and win the final MLC championship. The time for trash talking is almost over. Can't wait to see who eats crow on Saturday morning.
  11. I doubt after the Volunteer debacle last year that any games will be overlooked. This one will be over by halftime. Sheppard and pals will pad stats for the 1st half and then the JV will hit the field. Perfect game right before South. Hopefully the Vikings will get healthy.
  12. Exactly right. Bart is arguably the best player in the last 20 years at THS and he only got to long snap his 5th year for Virginia Tech. We have talent but not the kind you find around Knoxville and West TN. Hey Cap. I bet there is a reason that Mason is not playing on defense. Although I did see him take some snaps there this past game. He has the frame to be a great defender. I have no idea about his technique or heart. Your kids are good football players, but ultimately basketball is both of their top sports.
  13. I'm definitely not coaching. I don't know as much as they do about football. Great post TVA. You said what I wanted to. I just was a little rougher. My bad on that.
  14. In order to blitz you have to have corners that can cover man to man. We have one that can do that. You also need a safety that can help out over the top. Between Tallman and Arnold we can pressure the QB. I agree that a blitz might be good from time to time, but we don't have the personnel to do it much. Davis and Snyder are working hard and will both hit hard, but they have a hard time covering a taller receiver since they are both about 5'8". You can only do so much with what you are given.
  15. Its just funny that people get on here and blame the coaches instead of the players. I would never call out these kids by name, but we have some serious weak points. Both outside backers have done a fine job, but neither of them were penciled in to be the starter. That distinction went to Tyler Greene(dislocated hip) and Carlos Howard(total knee). The guys we have tried at safety have given it their all, but that should be Matt Pendleton(broken arm). He would make a huge difference in our secondary. On offense: The line has not played up to their potential yet. After Keenan we are down to a freshman at RB right now. I know X is there, but he has had fumble problems in the past. Everyone wants us to pass it. The spread offense is the sexy thing now, but smash mouth football is what THS is about. Corey is a great receiver, but after him we are inexperienced. Even though Wilson is a speed demon he didn't seem to know what to do with the ball when he got it this past Friday. Hopefully that will improve because if he could get some daylight nobody can catch him. Someone in an earlier post said that the coaches should teach him how to return. What makes you think they haven't tried. Do you honestly believe that on gameday Stubbs found Wilson and said "By the way you're returning kicks. Good Luck." I just get tired of being at the games and hearing the same loud mouths bad mouth the coaching staff. I know you paid your money, but you should support your team. We need to be united at the games.
  16. Sounds like somebody's little baby boy isn't getting the ball enough. I wish some of you would apply for the coaches jobs. I guarantee you aren't qualified to coach at one of the elementary schools Cap. You wonder why your son(not the current viking) feels like the world owes him something. Its you big boy. You've blown smoke up his butt all his life telling him how great he is and now when its nut crunching time he transfers from a winning program thinking he can play D1. Think about it for one minute. Have you ever gotten along with a coach here. Not Burns. Not Witcher. Not Stubbs. Not Pitts.(King College). When you can't get along with anybody its time to look in the mirror. We're just lucky that your current player is more down to earth than you are. Get off of the coaches until you prove you can do better.
  17. Too many injuries for the Vikings. Science Hill rolls in this one. 35-14
  18. "The product on the field at present time is not getting the job done"!!! Easy there tiger. The Vikes have won the last two games. I know it ain't pretty, but the results are good. Hopefully we'll come around. We finally have most of our line healthy. The fact is that we are not very deep on the line. #33 at East proved that. Pendleton will be healthy soon and that will help a lot. The fact is that South will kill us if we don't improve greatly, but I'm sure we're working on it every day. Oh and by the way #4 is junior TJ Simmons.
  19. The better team that night won the game. Any other time the THS would have annihilated the Falcons. Don't forget that THS's best player Elijah Bible was suspended for that game. He makes a world of difference when he is on the field.
  20. TN High's coaching staff deserves a mention here. Last night they clinched their 4th straight Big 9 championship. Their feeder system at Vance middle school is always good as well. Great job Lady Vikes!
  21. I would have to say Montgomery from TN High. She is on pace for well over 2000 in her career. Player of the year in the Big 9 as a sophomore, and she is definitely in the running this year.
  22. THS vs. Elizabethton was a great game to see. Montgomery actually had 27. ELizabethton crushed THS on the boards. They just didn't have an answer for Montgomery. The THS posts did absolutely nothing. They were completely outplayed by Elizabethton. If the Vikings can get some production or at least some rebounding from their posts they can be great. Both teams have bright futures this year.
  23. No excuses from the Vikings. The Falcons had more heart and just plain wanted it more. The call at the goal line was questionable, but the bottom line is that we did not deserve to win. Also there was a flag in the backfield for holding so we would have had to try again anyway. Congrats to Volunteer on a well played game. Oh and our fans are pathetic.
  24. Vikings will start slow, but by the 2nd half the superior athletes and depth will show. Vikings by 14!
