  1. Let us look at the scores: SP beats FC 28-12 in a rainstorm with one touchdown coming after the lightning storm on pretty much a hail mary pass. TC beats FC 28-6 on a dry field. I just don't see how FC fans can say the Pirates do not have a chance....that is just plain ignorant. I guess that just comes from a lack of knowledge in football.... and it could be from a little envy too since FC's record against Trousdale & South Pittsburg is not stellar. Region 4 (besides Trousdale) does not have any respect for South Pittsburg. They did not last year and they do not this year. I am sure if we beat Trousdale they still will not. By the way, the Pirates are region champs in 1A and 2A again this year. With a hard fought win over Trousdale, they could make it two years in a row as region 3 and 4 champs! GO PIRATES!!!!!!!!!
  2. Croz, have you seen the Pirates play this year?? I doubt it....so how can you say all this crap about TC having the advantage on the line?? Our line has played pretty well this year regardless that they only have one starter from last year's team. They have made some mistakes, but it is due to experience. From what I have heard, TC's kicker is good so I will give them the edge there. I just don't understand all these folks thinking that SP is coming up there behind to start with. I respect Trousdale and I expect a good game, but I just don't think they are going to run all over us either. I guarantee you that they have not played a team as good as SP is all year. It is very clear that the FC and Gordensville fans are just haters because of the beatdowns they have taken the last two years. The only bragging rights they have over SP is when they beat a young team. Anyway, this will be another great game, but i believe SP will win.
  3. You evidently are a little biased when it come to football teams. That Smith Co bunch better get ready for the second best team in Marion Co! They have improved drastically since the beginning of the season and I predict they will win tonight. Now on to the Pirates..... We are confident, but we have been watching this team all year. Defensively I think they are better than last year. Offensively, they are different this year.....3 backs can take it to the house and the quarterback has a good arm. Oh yeah, I forgot to mention that we have another good receiver this year. I guess we pretty much have the same offensive fire power. Anyway, IF (and that is a big if) Friendship wins this one, they will have to stop all of the weapons AND score on a very good defense.
  4. I second that Pirate Tom. I don't really understand why someone is running that mouth when they have not even seen Pittsburg play this year. I think someone may still be a little ill over the loss to the Pirates last year.
  5. You definitely don't know anything about South Pittsburg football.....4 state championships 3 runner up appearances. Not many small high school programs can match that except Trousdale. I have not seen anyone from our region say anything about having the better region. SP's is weak, but they can not help what region that the TSSAA puts them in each year. I guarantee that if Grace's quarterback is not injured (by a late hit out of bounds), that game could have gone either way. Just keep running that mouth....it helps to fire up a talented team called the Pirates!!
  6. Buddy, you must not know a good team when you see one. Boyd's line averaged over 250 lbs (with a couple almost 300 lbs), but those guys were not just big fat boys....they were very athletic. Boyd is a quality team and would put a beating on your boys. Any team in 1A or 2A would have trouble with their massive line. They stacked the line to stop the run. If Terrell would have had a little time to throw, that game would have been over by halftime. SP hada horrible call in the 4th quarter, or the Pirates win 14-0. Anyway, it was a W for the Pirates. The three teams we played from 2A all went to the playoffs and 2 of them are still alive. I think everyone here is SP knows that Trousdale is a good team, but we just take one game at a time. Trousdale's shot to take the Pirates down will be next week so let's just leave it alone until after tonight.
  7. Just as sportsman said, we heard all this jawing last year and SP proved that they were the best team in 1A in 2007. This year??™s team is different than last year, but they are still very talented and if they play as a team they will win it all again in 2008. I don??™t get the argument from the folks that said Friendship quit last year??¦.they just took a beat down from a better team. I guess that is a good excuse if you are a loser. Anyway, I do expect this game to be closer than last year. The Pirates will be tested tonight, but I still think they are 3 to 4 touchdowns better than the Commanders. My prediction: Pirates: 35 Commanders: 14 GO PIRATES!!!!!!!!!
  8. The Pirates better come out and play more as a team this week, or they can forget playing Trousdale Co or going to the state again this year. I think some have let all this talk about being better than last year's team go to their head. SP is a good team, but is different on both sides of the ball than last year. The defense is better than last year. Without them, SP loses to Tyner and Boyd this year. The offense is good, but can not line up and run it down another teams throat like they did last year. All of our backs are good and can break a big run at any time, but the blocking has to be better from here on out or SP will have problems. I am a big SP fan and I think that the Pirates can beat any team when they play well. I just hope they come out in this game with the right frame of mind.
  9. It is finally Friday!!! The Pirates will begin their quest for a second state title in a row tonight. Clay County may be tough, but I can guarantee that they have not seen this kind of speed since 1985. SP wins this one big. My prediction: SP ??“ 60 CC ??“ 0
  10. That is right sportsman, there were a lot of teams that thought they could end the Pirate??™s season last year. I guess we will have a new group of them this year that just will not listen until the Mighty Pirates show them how to play smash mouth football!!! For those of you older fans, at least we don??™t have to travel to Celina like we did back in 1985. That was one long drive to see a beatdown!!! I see the Pirates scoring easily and often in this game??¦.prediction will be later on this week.
  11. I don??™t hate anyone for liking their own players, I just don??™t think it is right for someone to down any kid??™s accomplishments. You and 2seam are just in here to stir up trouble. David along with all of our seniors are good leaders this year. They have had to handle the preseason hype and the #1 ranking all year. If what you have said is not ???trashing??? a good player, then I would hate to see what you would say if you were. Anyway, the truth is that the Pirates reign supreme again this year!! SP has always been pretty good at beating private schools that recruit!!!! And to explain the Christian comment, how about the verse: Love your neighbor as yourself. I don??™t think it is a good virtue to hate or dislike someone if you are a professing Christian.
  12. All I can say is that all of these Grace fans are just plain jealous!! Josh Blake is good??¦.all of us SP fans have said so??¦.but all you ???Christian??? Grace fans are just trashing David. He is a great player, and has shown good leadership this year??¦but he is still a young man that is human. We have all made mistakes and he paid for his by sitting out the first half of the game. He WILL be playing at a D1 school next year, you can bet on that! As far as the game goes, if the two interceptions do not happen, this game is over at halftime. If David Jones does not sit out the first half, this game is over at the end of the first quarter. Grace will do well to beat Watertown this week, but the road will end for them at Trousdale Co.
  13. Actually, SP scored 14....but the referee from Boyd threw a flag 60 yards behind the play....still don't know what that call was about but it did not matter at the end....Pirates still won.
  14. My thoughts on this game are based on watching both teams against the Pirates. Tyner is a very athletically talented team. Of all of the teams SP played this year, I felt like Tyner matched them better than any. SP had a two touchdown lead in this game at one point, but was not able to put the Ram Train away until right at the end of the game. Most were not concerned about Boyd this year, but they came to town with a chip on their shoulder and gave SP all they wanted and more. I would like to pick Tyner in this game, but if Boyd shows up to play like they did against the Pirates I see them winning this game by 2-3 tds??¦..just my opinion.
  15. Seven, I remember your quarterback (Thomas Payne) that year. He was a game breaker that night. SP turned the ball over a couple of times and he made them pay. If I am not mistaken he ran a sweep to the left side for 2 or 3 touchdowns that just broke SP's back that night. I felt like we were the better team, but TC was the better one that game. Scruggs just killed our D-line that night and paved the way for Mr Payne. Did he ever play any college ball? Eddie Moore was a special athlete for SP. He was one of the best I have seen where the orange & black.....I am sure some of you Greenback faithful remember the 1998 game at your place. He ran wild and SP scored like 70 points. It was a shame that his career ended the way it did, but that is football. He had a great college career and is still playing in the NFL (although he is injured right now). He has not forgotten his hometown and has really been an inspiration and a role model for many of the young men in SP.
  16. Man, you must really think Boyd stinks. I will have to tell you they are for real this year??¦.along with Tyner??¦.and they were both ranked in 2A when SP beat them. Both teams have massive lines. Tyner has more speed than Boyd, but I think Boyd may be a little more disciplined and may have the better quarterback. Anyway, they were both good games and have battle tested the Pirates for the playoffs. With that said, if SP makes it past FCS and TC, they will beat either Oneida or Greenback by 2-3 tds. I think both of these teams are good, but I very seriously doubt that they have seen the athletes and speed that SP has on their roster. Of course I am biased, but I predict SP wins it all this year. GO PIRATES!!!!!!!!
  17. SP is dominating right now, BUT there are lean years when you are a 1A program and do not recruit. I just don't see the argument for SP to move up. Competition is good, but playing against teams that have a much larger enrollment just makes no sense. The only non-region games SP played were against your 2A region (Tyner, Marion Co, and Boyd). They can not help that they are in a weak region.
  18. Those games are fun and I think everyone enjoys competition, but SP has no business playing schools that can pool 2-3 times the kids every week. We are lucky to field 40 kids....with only 20-25 of them actually seeing playing time in big game situations. The way this new system works, we will more than likely be in a region with Marion, Sequatchie Co, Whitwell and probably a few other local teams. I was told that the regions would be smaller so that would leave room to schedule better teams. One thing about it, you can not help who is in your region and that you may have superior talent than most of them year in and year out.
  19. Mo, it seems like your Jr High program is doing well just like South Pittsburg's.....which means I am sure we will be battling for that 1A gold ball every year. SP's junior high program defeated Rhea Co's (4A) last week for the championship. We have not played Indian's team, but they would take a beating if we did. Our schedule will not be as week next year as it has been the last few years.....thank goodness we will drop most of these private school start up programs. They will not be in our region hopefully. By the way....what position is GV in right now in the region?
  20. I don't see why South Pittsburg should move up....we are one of the smallest 1A schools. If we were a private school or recruited our players, I would see no problem. I sense a little bit of jealousy in that comment.
  21. As a Pirate fan, I am always leery of Trousdale. SP played them the first time in the playoffs in 1993??¦.what a freakin huge and talented team!!! That game began somewhat of a rivalry between these two schools in the playoffs over the years. The winner of the SP/TC game has gone on to win the Gold ball each time with the Pirates having a 3-2 edge. Last year??™s game was decided really by two plays with Rashawn Weatherspoon breaking them for touchdowns. Without those two scores, this would have been a much closer game. I think SP can match up with them pretty well, and if we do play again this year I am sure it will be another classic game. One good thing about this Pirate team is that they have been battle tested twice against two very talented 2A teams (Tyner & Boyd). I don??™t know if SP will face a bigger line than Boyd had (275 pound average), but both games definitely help the Pirates prepare for the playoffs. The other team(s) that are of concern are FCA, Oneida, and Greenback. These will be teams I am sure SP will play if they go the distance and from what I have been told Oneida is a quality team. I don??™t know as much about the other two, but they must be doing something right to remain undefeated. I don??™t want the West teams to think I am overlooking them, but we will have to worry about the East teams to make it to the Boro.
  22. I will have to say Boyd by at least 40....if they play as hard as they did last week. Sequatchie is a sound team, but I don't think they have seen the size that Boyd has on the line.....looks like they have Bigfoot and his brother playing both tackle positions.
  23. I think the biggest difference from this year and last year is the offensive line. Not to knock any of the kids this year, but I really feel like last year's line was better at this point in the season...but SP also had to replace 4 starters from 2007. Against the two good teams we have played, Jones, Mitchell and Bibbs have earned every yard.
  24. Bossbro, I have to agree with you, Boyd is a much improved team from last year. If they continue to play with the intesity they did last night, they will make a deep run in the playoffs. David had a great run in the first quarter, but Boyd did everything they could to keep him and the other two backs bottled up the rest of the night. I wanted to ask how David is? I was a little concerned because I noticed it looked like he may have injured his shoulder last night. I will have to say that is one of the hardest hitting games I can remember in a long time.
  25. They did not completely shutdown the running game, but when you stack the box, it is hard to run. They did not stop the passing game...Terrell just had an off night. There were a couple of passes that would have been touchdowns if Terrell had been on target...but that is football. I don't know why you are running your mouth you big Jasper fan because the Pirates beat your team like a red-headed step child....and the mighty Warriors were beaten by Boyd. If you are going to get on here and bash SP, then stay off of this thread. I think Jasper's team stinks, but I am not going to go on your thread and bash your kids. AND I have never said that SP has 30 D1 prospects. SP has an exception group of athletes on this team that most coaches would give their left leg for....but I guess you would not understand that since you are from Jasper.
