  1. In all this coacht realignment, please keep in mind Columbia and Lawrence County. 4 of their 6 current district 8AAA road games are an 1 1/2 hour drive (or more). Columbia can drive to all of 11AAA, 12AAA, and 5 of 8 7AAA schools in less time. Lawrence County is in a more awkward geographic location though. They still could reach most if not all of 11AAA in less time.
  2. Just received word...due to electrical problem @ Lincoln Co. the games have been flipped. Now schedule is; Mon - 3/17 - Lincoln Co. @ Columbia 4:00 pm Tues - 3/18 - Columbia @ Lincoln Co. 6:00 pm Report was a transformer blew @ Lincoln Co's field and won't be repaired until Tues.
  3. Columbia @ Lincoln Co. has been changed to Monday 3/17 @ 5:00. This is due to possible bad weather Wednesday. Lincoln County @ Columbia will still be Tuesday 3/18 @ 3:30.
  4. All of the TJCCAA schools have their postives and negatives. At present, the hot teams are Walters, Chatt., and Dyersburg. Check fairly recent history and you'll see that Roane won the conference tournament. Columbia has a new coach with a new attitude. Motlow is in a similar situation. The bottom line is unless your going to play right away at a 4 yr school, going to any TJCCAA school for your first 2 yrs and playing is your best bet. I've followed the TJCCAA for some time now. The level of play is as strong as many 4 yr conferences around. Players from all the teams have moved on to 4 yr school rosters. Pick any 4 yr school, D-1 to NAIA, and look at their current rosters. Many players will have Junior Colleges listed as their previous schools. If you're considering any TJCCAA schools, just talk to them and make the decision as to which is the best fit for you. For every negative comment you hear about any of the schools, I can match it with a positive one about the same school. Not every situation is going to fit every player. As far as running players off, TJCCAA baseball is virtually August through May. Hard work and intensity is the norm. Balancing this with the class work is tough. Lastly, attend the TJCCAA conference tournament in Columbia this weekend and see how many 4 yr schools are represented with scouts/coaches watching. They know where to find players.
  5. The coach's name is Dan McShea. He is from Mississippi. Pitched @ Ole Miss. Was hired approx. 5 days before school started last fall. He was behind the 8 ball from the get go this year. Only 3 starters from the previous season and the Motlow administration had granted releases to several players Rhoton had signed over the summer before he "retired" (that's another story). As far as working the district tournament, the TJCCAA conference tournament is in Columbia at the same time so it would depend on their run in the tourny as to how much of the district they see. I've been around 8AAA and the TJCCAA for several years. Trust me, all the TJCCAA coaches keep an eye on 8AAA. The coaches of this district do a great job preparing players for the next level.
  6. Siegel @ Columbia should be a nice early barometer for both teams.
  7. You might want to check the 06-07 TSSAA calender if you are planning an actual game 3/10. The Monday 10 weeks prior to spring fling is 3/12/07.
  8. Franklin Co vs. Lawrence Co is correct. Columbia 8, Coffee Co 5 final.
  9. Jay Howard - C - Columbia Central signed with Motlow State Thursday 5/19.
  10. FYI (part II)- mlb official playing rules 6.05 A batter is out when_ (a) His fair or foul fly ball (other than a foul tip) is legally caught by a fielder; ( A third strike is legally caught by the catcher; "Legally caught" means in the catcher's glove before the ball touches the ground. It is not legal if the ball lodges in his clothing or paraphernalia; or if it touches the umpire and is caught by the catcher on the rebound. If a foul tip first strikes the catcher's glove and then goes on through and is caught by both hands against his body or protector, before the ball touches the ground, it is a strike, and if third strike, batter is out. If smothered against his body or protector, it is a catch provided the ball struck the catcher's glove or hand first.
  11. FYI- MLB official rules 6.09 The batter becomes a runner when_ (a) He hits a fair ball; ( The third strike called by the umpire is not caught, providing (1) first base is unoccupied, or (2) first base is occupied with two out; When a batter becomes a base runner on a third strike not caught by the catcher and starts for the dugout, or his position, and then realizes his situation and attempts then to reach first base, he is not out unless he or first base is tagged before he reaches first base. If, however, he actually reaches the dugout or dugout steps, he may not then attempt to go to first base and shall be out.
  12. Not sure what game you were watching, but LC beat Columbia 6-5 on 3 unearned runs in the bottom of the 6th.
  13. Columbia starter was Chris Buie-went 6 2/3. Left game with 5-2 lead and 2 runners on. David Rodriguez relieved and ends up with the win. All 3 runs scored were unearned in the 7th. Ben Walker started for Tullahoma. Some early control issues, but settled down. He threw 4 (I think). A smaller lefthander threw after him 2innings and a right hander (not Morris) threw after that and he got the loss.
  14. 1 game-winner take all-8:00 pm Autozone Park-Sat.5/29
  15. hooligan, know your stats...Luther went 4 2/3, bratton 1 1/3, McDonald went 1.
  16. Mabs, my boy, it's so good to see that your getting your sleep in (notice the time of your post). The guys are looking pretty good. Most of the contributors you know. You know me, I'm not going to get too excited yet. 3 extremely solid Sr pitchers, solid hitting 1-9, defense working hard-getting better every day out. Got the making of an exciting year...but as a wise man once said..."it's not how you start, it's how you finish". Get home to see us soon. I'll save a spot on the fence for you. Be good...
  17. I'm curious... if each coach nominates 1 player from his team, how did Bratton and Lindsey (both from Columbia) share the MVP honor last year?

    Riverdale?

    One word description of Riverdale...STRONG.
  19. No, I leave judgement to those with no faults. You asked for our thoughts... you got mine.
  20. Wonder no more...I think that this is a subject that has gone way too far and gone on way too long...move on...
  21. Just remember the words of a wise man..."It is not how you start, it's how you finish" (My apologies to UThater for offending his literary palette.) [Edited by frozenroper on 3-6-03 12:08P]
  22. mtmudcat, the one your thinking about from columbia is Sr. Zack Gray (RHP).
  23. I'm class of 79...it was a good thing practice-wise to not have to get hit by him when we came to johnny O. Yes, it was always fun to watch him set up his signature move. It was fun because we knew it was coming but the poor guy wrestling him didn't.
  24. I don't recall that name. Prior to '76, I can't speak for many names on OHS's roster.
  25. I have no idea about Kevin. I just remember watching him play. He was also a great wrestler. He graduated the year before I got there. I'm class of '79.
