  1. I believe Briarcrest in the West. The East should be good games. Webb at home is tough but HH has been playing inspired. Even though they beat us twice, I look for JPII to win. It may depend on how Ensworth responds to the news that Coach Pack is leaving after the season. Should be good games all weekend.
  2. The mid/east region gets 5 teams to the state with 3 from the west. All 4 teams that make it to Knoxville will go on to the state. The 5th team will be the one with the best region record out of the remaining teams. That team will go to state as #5 and will have to play the overall #1(Webb) team . The region at webb will determine the 1-4 seeds from our side. Hope this helps.

  4. My eyes hurt after reading all that. As with anything, there are good and bad examples of this rule. As someone who also has been involved in coaching basketball on the HS and small college level for 20 years I agree with the rule in general. Our program this year has both in and out transfers. Our kid that transferred in for whatever reason should have sit the first half of the year. She has played 14 JV games and has progressed practicing with the varsity. She may start next year and has 2 years remaining. Our kid that transferred out was unhappy after our first 3 scrimmages and was unhappy in her role. Before christmas she transferred to our biggest region rival. She's a sweet kid but there's no way she should be able to play varsity and played against us in JV recently. Bottom line is 95% of all girls in middle TN won't play in college and the top level kids usually aren't the ones transferring around. Also in some areas where there are many schools in a particular area players would jump around left and right if they didn't have to sit. Just my slant.
  5. Bulldog, were you at the JPII/Ryan game last night? Just wanted to know your thoughts on Ryan's ineptness on offense. The JPII/BA game should be good Monday as BA is playing better and will be out for revenge. JPII goes to the state even with a loss but needs to win to stay out of Webb's bracket in the region with it being at Webb.
  6. Megan is a better all around player. Unger is a better spot up shooter but that's it. Roberson is better off the dribble, passing, defense, quickness an can post up. I would also guess that she is a better leader in the locker room. However, Unger will win MVP due to the team's success and being the leading scorer on that team. As always, it'll depend on the other coaches who vote.
  7. Thanks bulldog. Everyone should be as supportive as you are. Coach Brown has some good freshmen and Rolick will be a good player as early as next year. I never doubted that Ryan would play hard. throw the records out the window. JPII loses 5 important seniors this year. The junior class is not strong but the sophomores are good so we will drop significantly next year. One disappointing thing was that with as big a game as this always is, there were only 4 of us commenting on it. Last year you got posts from 15 different people on this game. There hasn't been much talk on DII this year. May be that BA and Harpeth Hall are very average but still provide good games along with Ensworth, JPII, and Ryan. Good luck and see you in a few weeks.
  8. I thought our banter previously was fun but not childish. Both teams played hard and always have respect for each other. No it shouldn't have gone to overtime. JPII in the last 1 1/2 minutes missed 2 front ends of 1 and 1, missed the back end of a 2 shot FT, a 2 footer by Wilkins and a missed 2 footer by Woods as time expired. Should've been JPII by 6-8. Wilkins and Woods being in foul trouble early kept it close as Ryan has no post defense for Wilkins. Hammer played great. Patsy forced some things but made 3 threes, one to tie it late. JPII's starting 2 guard Lindahl turned an ankle early and didn't return until late. For Ryan, Campbell does what she does and hit big FT's. Reynolds hit 2 big threes and some FT's. They really don't have any other consistent scoring threats and it's hard to play only 6 players especially against man to man. At the end of regulation and OT, Ryan couldn't come out and put effective pressure on JPII. But JPII missed 2 FT's with 5 seconds and the desperation 3 was on line to go in. I'll take your action as this was the best chance for a Ryan win. Good luck to both.
  9. A Wiesman once said that the lady Irish will need only be able to eat Campbell soup after getting punched in the mouth by the Lady Knights. At the fish fry, fry us up some of that Herron and feed it to Reynolds that got wrapped up by JPII defense! Also the Harris poll shows that after the victory the lady knights had a Rolick-ing good trip back to Hville! Also a school thats, what, a 100 years old should've won a few banners during that time. Back at ya!
  10. Just promise me that you'll come on here and admit to being wrong and not run away like fieldman did after getting drilled twice last year. The atmosphere is even better at Ryan due to the gym holding twice as many fans as JPII's gym does and the place rocks. Even if you have no ties to either school, come enjoy the the game!
  11. I'll take my medicine. Ensworth outplayed JPII on both ends of the court. However Ryan is hardly Ensworth. JPII will bounce back Friday and the win streak over Ryan will continue. If not then i'll be big enough to come back and say so. JPII by 12-15. Good luck to all.
  12. I could care less about football. Ryan does have some quality wins and in this game anything can happen as it's about the best HS atmosphere there is. JP2's schedule is not tough but some of this has to do with the community. For years JP2 has been trying to schedule Beech, Hville, Station Camp etc in it's own community and none of them will schedule, even for freshmen games. Two years ago we had 2 good games with White House when they were good and the next year their principal said they wouldn't schedule privates following the same narrowminded views of the other schools in the area. We already, like Ryan, have to play games in Knoxville, Chattanooga, and Memphis and when area schools refuse to play, scheduling is tough. We've played Gallatin each year and have a great relationship with them which is weird since JPII is a Hville school that is most welcomed by Gallatin and not Hville schools. This is another topic. Good luck to Ryan and come support the game.
  13. The fish fry is great even if you're the visitors. If you're a Ryan fan you better eat dessert and not watch JPII beat the Lady Irish. The Lady Knights are 15-2 with easy wins over BA and Harpeth Hall. Plus they will be still sky high after beating Ensworth this Tuesday. Good luck to all. Where are you at Fieldman?
  14. Big game at JPII friday with Brentwood Academy. JPII is 10-2 against average competetion and graduation and injuries have hampered BA. DII is up for grabs more than ever with Ensworth and Harpeth Hall being good as well. Every game will be big.
  15. schedules for Beech and Overton is in today's Tennessean. Some at overton are JPII, Ezell, Hillsboro, Lipscomb, Glencliff, Overton, Warren co and 1 more I believe.
  16. warren Co won last night by 11 or 12. This afternoon they lost to jpII by11. JpII was up 16 at the end of 3 and subbed the younger kids. WC played hard but JPII pulled away in the 3rd mainly due to conditioning. Their posts consistently beat the WC posts down the floor for easy baskets scoring 21 third quarter points. Their girls played hard and didn't give up. I don't know anything about the behind the scene stuff you guys always talk about but we've(JPII) played them the last 2 years and they played really hard both times against us. Their coach seemed to try to get them to do the right things and was positive in time outs and strategy wise knows something about basketball. I know seeing them only 2 games its hard to tell a whole lot, but I can tell if kids try hard and if the coach is trying to put them in good position for success. Good luck to them in the future.
  17. Nice. that's for other people to say. My exception was with the blanket statement. I'm just there for the kids. All have a good holiday.
  18. I take great exception to the statement that no good coach favors the rule. This is a statement from someone that, i'm assuming, never coached a game on the HS level. You can't make blanket assumptions like that just like I cannot speak for all coaches. My freshman team last year went undefeated and won by a margin of 35+ a game. I coached till the very end even up 50. Standing in a zone with a foot in the lane and instituting a no fast break rule during the game might have been good sportsmanship but did little to improve us. We didn't press and worked on half court offense. I bet our opponents wanted the clock to run in the 4th. This season we're not as good. Last week we played a very good JV team with our freshmen. We were down 20 at half and we continued to work hard with all kids. In the 4th it got to 35 and the clock ran. I coached hard till the clock ran out just as I expected the kids to go hard until the end. However we were inexperienced freshmen playing against freshmen and good sophomores whose varsity won the state last year. We used it as a learning tool because you get better playing better competetion but in this case I didn't mind that the clock ran in the 4th. Never said I would vote for the rule, but I certainly don't mind it and don't feel my kids got cheated.
  19. Great point as does fastpitch. Some of those early season HS softball scores are crazy even with the run rule. Some of those games would get to 30-0 if they played 7 innings.
  20. As someone who has coached for 20 years i'm in favor of the rule. I've been on both sides of a 30 point game many times over the years. The arguement that you're cheating kids or the subs need floor time doesn't wash with me. If your varsity is getting beat by 35 then guess what, the other teams subs are probably much better than yours and they'll get drilled also. It's not floor time that benefits these kids. It's not the case every time, but it holds true most of the time. If a kid wants valuable floor time, get better in practice and use JV time to do this and then maybe you'll get in a few minutes when you are in a 7 point game. If you are up 35 you're hopefully doing things to control the score to a certain point and you're playing everyone. Even while you're doing this you still want the game to get over. I was on the good side of a couple of 40 pt games last year and while everyone plays you want it to end. The second teamers get more out of playing against starters. Just my take.
  21. i haven't seen Cheatham this year but knowing their history it can't be good losing to Hendersonville last night. Even though they are AAA, H'ville is a below average team.
  22. No, but was it more than 10? we'll call my statement a push.lol
  23. Ensworth wins 44-34 in a tale of 2 halves. Ensworth created many first half turnovers and built a 16 pt halftime lead. JPII's size dominated in the second half and cut the lead to 7 late also missing 3 key FT's. Too big a lead to overcome. Ensworth lost composure in the 2nd half and shot selection wasn't good but played good D the first half. Second game should be good as well as it will be the one that counts in the standings. Good luck to both.
  24. I didn't say JPII only lost 1 starter, only 1 key player (pt. guard). The other 2 were great kids but have easily been replaced. Add to that key contributions by 2 sophomores who were undefeated last year and won fresh men games by 30+ a game. Going to state will be a tossup as always, but then again some thought Ryan was better last year but 3 blowouts later found that not to be true.
  25. Don't think so. JPII was up 10 late last year before losing a close game. JPII has 5 seniors that have been to 3 state tournaments and went 22-6 last year. Only had 1 key person graduate. Ensworth is 2-0 against JPII with both games being close. Anyone can win but there is no way either will win by more than 10.
