Yea it is inevitable. I just hope they keep the best interest of the students in mind. I've heard South and Rock Springs will be taken, but no word on the rest of the elementary and middle schools. Back to football... The optimist in me sees this: 1. A lot of folks in the area are writing off this version of the Rebels. The underdog role may be great for us. 2. Over the past few years we have built one heck of a winning tradition locally. We have also beaten and proven we can play well with teams outside of our locality i.e. knox west, catholic, powell. Success breeds success. 3. This coaching staff and team will be looking to make an impact and continue the Rebel way. 4. The DB hurdle... They say the def of insanity is doing the same thing and expecting different results. There has been change like it or not, but this gives us the opportunity to try a new angle. Not a prediction my friends, just hope. The pessimist in me sees... well i don't believe is pessimism, what the heck is the point. It seems that some folks on this board have personal issues with members of the current staff. That is their right, and i respect that and will not comment. I choose to be here with open arms. I can't wait for the Friday night lights of Death Valley to see the boys in blue and to hear that classic voice of the rebels. I crave the atmosphere. any word on upcoming scrimmages @ home for south??? I'd like to get out there and form my own opinion, at this point i dont know what to think about this years rebel team. Our schedule is going to be incredibly tough. Any new info on the city taking south? Any info is appreciated!

Good luck Coach Carter, I wish you well. Played for you when you were a position coach at South. Thanks for the memories. I wish you success except when you play us. Now that the pc thing has been said... oh by the way good luck getting past DB and Maryville later on. My alligence will always lie with the school not the coach. Geez how many days till football season? Looks like we have another rivalry game to look forward to for the next couple years!

So Hilltopper faithful, whats the latest on the coaching situation. Rebel Nation is talking like its all but a done deal for Coach Carter to the Hill. What are you hearing about it? Merry Christmas.

Man i need to get some sources or something... i can't wait to see how this all shakes out but the worst part is we've got 8 months till we see how it effects things on the field. If Stacy goes to the hill that means potentially, he'll have to see DB 2x in a season and of course Maryville is always lurking in the playoffs. If he wants a big challenge he certainly is going to get one. I don't see how you can build yourself a house from the ground up and then not live in it. Coaches know when they're in a good situation, and its not like Science Hill is a glamour job. There must be an impressive offer on the table. One thing is for sure, for it to have been strung out this long is not good news for rebel nation. However... take for example Boise st. (i know i know probably not the best comparsion but anyway) their previous coach Hawkins, built a solid program and then left for so called "greener pastures" and then petersen stepped in and took the program to a whole new level. And Hawkins has found that all that glitters is not gold. Hopefully, if our beloved coach C leaves, the program will be taken to the next level by his successor. Hey Waco, I'm seriously asking your opinion here. What feeling do you have about Coach Carter staying or leaving, and what have you heard lately about more annexations in the Sullivan South area?

Its pretty rare that any school can compete in all sports. Science Hill is a basketball and baseball school, despite the fact they have 2000+ students I don't see it as a football school. Stacy has built the strongest program in the area over the past few years, hes an alum, he has IT here. We finished #1 in the NET football rankings this year according to TriCitiesSports.com (and i'm pretty sure we've been #1 or #2 the past few years). He doesn't need the challenge of rebuilding. We've still got two monkeys on our back. One is chasing the gold ball and the other, well we all know that one. I don't think he will go, or at least i hope. Plus, with the latest reclassification, he won't have to go through Maryville at South, but will if he goes to SH.

Jenkins is not a candidate simply because of his health. Science Hill will want someone to be there for at least 10 years. That will eliminate Turner. They will want the most healthy, youngest, most progressive mind available. They will not want to have to go through this process again anytime soon. Of all the people mentioned so far Stacy Carter is by far the top candidate. Science Hill doesn't want to run an ancient, square jawed, low scoring offense. They want an offense to be high profile in nature and utilize many athletes and be exciting to watch in anticipation of packing the new stadium. Truly their only choice by looking locally is Stacy Carter. C'mon people be realistic here. They hired Smith because he talked a good talk. 5 wide, written books, state champion...yada...yada. They bought the Disney World routine. So that is what they want. They want Hollywood. Stacy Carter will come in and go straight to boot camp. First get rid of the players, parents, and coaches that aren't willing to push the wagon. Next turn the players into believers and produce the Continental Congress. Those forefathers will dictate the mentality and then the replication begins. The process will go faster at Science Hill because I feel if you took a parent/student poll of who they want you would see they would wholeheartedly agree on Stacy Carter. That in and on itself eliminates the first year tug of war with the parents and athletes because they will jump on board like so many survivors of the Titanic. His only issue the first year will be remnant coaches at the Hill who won't buy into Stacy's militaristic views. I mean I don't want him to leave South but if I were the AD at the Hill there would be no question in my mind. And I truly don't think there is a question in his mind. The article in the paper is just smoke and mirrors. They will interview and carry on just to go through the process and make like they had a hard time coming to a conclusion to make sure not to step on any toes. But the reality is...the decision has been made. We are just waiting for time to pass. The more important question is who will replace Carter at South? I heard Carter is going to replace charlie weis at notre dame... in all seriousness... DON'T GO COACH!!! What you have done with this sullivan south football program is truely remarkable. I know you bleed rebel blue, keep it in death valley.

I do. Columbia boy that married a Sullivan Central girl here. It's about 5 hours no matter how you slice it. Take the 840 loop off I-40 west. Get off at Saturn Parkway and then 31 South. Take the first right after you cross Duck River (hwy 7) Hang an almost immediate left on the by pass by the market. Lion Parkway will be on your right just past Dominoes. You'll see the lights. Preciate it vols and crawdad ... I wish this game wasn't on Thanksgiving weekend, i don't know if ill be able to make the trip but ill be listening on the radio if not. This is what its all about, it looks like there will be a lot of points put up in this game. Our defense has played pretty well this postseason, it looks like coach wesson is gonna have his work cut out for him this week. Listen to the radio show after the game last night, i think they described this version of rebels perfectly. Resilient. Lets keep it goin REBS.

This thread started out with a good post by couch qb that should of set the tone. If any "thinking" person wishes to look back to the second post you can see the post by W1ldcat (a South fan). This post is what hi-jacked the thread and brought my response in the forth post, which started the pi--ing match. If any "thinking" person wishes to look back at almost any thread for any upper east tn. team you will see a South fan will be the first to fire a shot at DB. It doesn't have to be a DB thread. I call them the Goone Squad. When one of them shows up I give it back to them 10fold. Little old South, maybe.......Big old Mouth, for sure. This is not about me. This is about the "Goone Squad" The group of South fans that are obsessed with DB. You may never beat DB on the football field if you couldn't do it this year. You now know this so this is all you got. The problem is your losing on CoachT to. I mean, dang, explain to all of us just how can you throw all this crap out here against a team that you have not beat in 17 years. I just don't get the logic there. What it shakes down to is what team shows up? Boone has definitely gotten better, South has been jekyl and hyde. Who knows, but i can't wait to find out! You play a physical brand of football. I played for both head coaches when they were on the South staff together. Both real good coaches, fun to play for, and deserving of this shot to make a run at state. Interesting match up as both know each others tendincies (sp?). CP gets a week healthier (we r gonna need his physicality), St. gets another week of conditioning. Gonna be a good one to watch. Gonna need an extra air horn for this one. I don't know a lot about Powell so I can't really make a solid predicition. I heard Clint is going to be out again tho. One thing is for sure, WE NEED TO START FAST! Jump on them early, get the 12th man involved! Ive got a good feeling about the playoffs, i think the Rebels will play with a sense of urgency. We've got a tough game at hand, it looks like powell's losses are to very good teams. On a side note, my wife finally bought a south shirt to wear to the game. Well said Batman... Comp i believe CS is only a junior (which is a scary thought). He has just been a stud on varsity since a freshman. I believe this bye week will be good for both teams and allows each side a chance to get healthy. I'm sure Carter and Clark will both have their boys ready to rock n roll. The atmosphere at Death Valley on 10/2 is going to be intense. Can't wait.
