  1. That small stuff is crap.ALCOA They are half the size of these "little"schools. My old school is a lot smaller than most of these teams, but you better come ready to play Greeneville. When I played,You would never hear me"crying" about getting beat by Jeff county because they are so big.By the way,DB and SH do win a lot of games in a lot of sports, that's why they both have so many trophy cases. Im usually not one to get into these debates, but it does stand to reason that more students = more athletes = more depth. The depth issue is one big reason smaller schools have a harder time competing. And with the city continually annexing property and students from the south zone, i don't know what the future holds. But nonetheless, it all gets settled on the field on friday nights anyway. Tough to call any conference game or rivalry game. One game does not make a season, im looking for a deep run into the playoffs as my measuring stick for this season. Ill take the boys in blue by a small margin, GO REBS! South 27 DB 21
  2. Let me preface my comments by saying I am not a current nor relatively recent player. I do not have any family that plays for South, nor do I have any personal relationships with any player or current student. Coach Carter was my DB and WR coach in 2000. It has been almost 9 years since I last took off my blue jersey. I am a Rebel at heart. Live in colonial heights and drive by South every day on the way to work. I must say, I have never been more proud to be a Rebel. The character that these young men have shown through this tragedy is phenominal. To go out on that field tonight and play to honor a fallen comrade, and emerge victorious was nothing short of incredible. I don't know how many parents, players, or coaches if any read these boards but want it to be known that these boys are special. I was, am, and will forever be a Rebel. My children will be Rebels. I just can't say enough about the character of this team. I have stated this on another thread but deem in necessary to state again. The character of a man is not displayed when he is standing tall and riding high, but emerges when you are knocked down and have the courage to rise. They won for him, he is smiling down upon you. God bless the Sullivan South Family. Rebel Pride Forever
  3. Congratulations Knox West!!! Your boys deserved this win. It was a tough week for the Sullivan South community and the Knox West family. The class, dignity, and character that your young men, staff, and community showed us was tremendous and will not be forgotten. I can't say enough about your team. We will be forever linked, there is a new brotherhood among these Rebels. The character of a man is displayed not when he is standing tall but when he is knocked down. You, our brothers, have character. We will be pulling for you. Best Wishes on a healthy and successful season from the Sullivan South Family. REBEL PRIDE
  4. Classy post gsh1... Its always a great battle when these two teams get together, it has been quite a rivalry over the past few years... I read the posts earlier about a possible blowout and gotta a kick outta it. Greeneville is not a team you blowout, they are a team you are lucky to beat and it always takes one heck of an effort to do so. Best of luck to you as well, may you have a healthy and successful season. I have no doubt you all will make a deep run this year.
  5. Yea i was a member of that 2000 rebel squad. Oddly enough, we made the playoffs that year. That DB team was impressive, in fact thats the best one ive seen. So many good players you couldn't key in on just one or two, they had talent all over the field. We were poorly coached and i don't think our coaches had a bit of knowledge about strength and conditioning. No excuses, we got it handed to us. Thats the beauty of a new season, the past doesn't matter. All that matters is what we do under the lights this season. We've both got our hands full tomorrow night in knoxville. All we're worried about is the task at hand. I hope we both come home 1-0. It would be nice come Oct. 2 if both teams came in undefeated in Death Valley.
  6. Wish i could be down there for the battle of the rebels! I wonder if ole kenny hawkins is gonna have some coverage for all of us who don't get to travel? Is the game gonna be broadcast on the radio or internet tomorrow? Time for the Rebels of South to rise up! Should be a tough game, I think West may be underestimating us just a bit. Go get some respect boys. Good health to both teams and all family to and from the game. Could go either way, but what kind of fan would i be if i didn't expect a W. Prediction: SS Rebels 31 KW Rebels 27
  7. Well i am always glad to see well wishers from south and db. I dont get into the trash talking on here. I'm optimistic but ive got a feeling that the preseason top two teams in the big 8 may come back from knoxville 0-1. But if either of us are going to make a run at the championship we are going to have to learn to beat tough competition. It looks like the weather may bring us a little rain down there tomorrow, which may be a good thing. I hope we represent kingsport well and all have safe journeys to and from the game and all of our players stay injury free. Good luck tribe.
  8. Well i hate that i had to miss the jamboree, i wanted to get a glimpse of the conference competition. I'm sure most coaches stuck to the basics as not to reveal too much of the offensive and defensive schemes. I got called into work, but on the way drove by death valley and it looked like there was one heck of a turnout. Would anyone care to post the results along with a little analysis? Preciate it.
  9. Whats the latest on the jamboree? Where's it at, matchups, kickoff time? If i had to guess id say DB with the turf?
  10. Preciate it jhilts... Yea i hope the weather cooperates, they need to get some live, full contact action in with someone other than themselves... I know id be foaming at the mouth ready to lay the wood on someone with another jersey by now... I hope we'll be ready come week zero, the rebs from knox west should be a pretty tough bunch, but if we are gonna make a deep run in the playoffs we need to play more teams like that. Should be an interesting year to say the least!
  11. any recent updates? how've they looked in scrimmages so far... i've heard a lot of conflicting opinions, rumors, observations etc... which is normal this time of year. I guess you never really know till the the lights come on friday nights. I've heard both mediocre and solid... how many scrimmages do we have left, who, where?
  12. I hope we (south) play DB later in the year... Sensabaugh is going to be a beast. I think DB trips up 1 time in the conf. vs either SSHS, SHHS, or THS. I do have to say, the "new" conference is going to hurt DB. I agree that it is imperative that they schedule some tough non-conf opponents to get better in the playoffs. there has to be some knoxville team they can play or pick up maryville, or heck i hear bell co. KY is always looking to play someone
  13. Hopefully theres is no 21-0 lead this year (unless its the rebs). Should be the biggest test we've had so far this year, hurricanes may be slowed by the natural grass a bit. South in a close one 42-34. See you in Death Valley 7pm sharp. Hopefully we'll have the seats packed and the stadium rockin', i wanna hear some noise tonight! Listen for the airhorns thats where ill be.
  14. Don't get me wrong, the kid #5 has a lot of talent. He will be a force to be reckoned with if the falcons develop some balance and a decent O-line. But starting a freshman on senior night? Anyway, i do agree with you in that the Rebs will have some fun with the Chiefs this week. Goals for this week for South: Win Stay Healthy Stay Sharp & Fine Tune all 3 aspects of the game Stay focused on the big pic
  15. A south fan here, i guess the name gives it away... Not a whole lotta action on the cherokee/south thread.. This should be the best game in the area this week. The top three in the 5 rivers are tough squads. Mo West is always physical but so is THS. The Stone Castle is one of the best atmospheres around, send the trojans home for season! Would love to see a potential MLC championship rematch in the 3rd round at Death Valley. I'm pulling for the vikes, got to have conference loyalties until we see you again. Good luck,THS 24 Mo West 21.
  16. I went and watched the cherokee/volunteer game last friday (would of rather been at the south game but...)... Cherokee didnt play too well. The game was better than the score indicated. Their run D looked pretty good but then again volunteer starts a freshman running back. Their secondary got burn't deep a couple of times and the offense, although they put up 40pts, wasnt impressive. South should be able to score at will barring any turnovers or just a plain off day. I just hope they don't look past cherokee to a possible match-up with Mo East. South wins big 49-14.
  17. Anyone who has ever laced em up in this rivalry knows theres gonna be some hittin goin on tonight. Close ball game till the end, lets see who can take home the top seed in region 1 and who will have the home field when these two match up in the playoffs. Go rebs!
  18. This is always a hard fought ball game, Rebs trying to make it 4 straight vs. the vikes. South wins in a close one 34-21
  19. Rebs proved last week they they can pound the ball... especially with the other running back to give fletcher some rest, this south team is dangerous... They need to stay focused... conf title 1st, then whomever gets put in front of you in the playoffs... With any luck and alot of hard work by our boys, I am looking forward to a match up with Mo. East possibly and then bringing the Red Raiders to Death Valley for some redemption
  20. Just wondering what you all were hearing about South playing Gate City next year? Also, besides conf. games who else are the Rebs takin on?
  21. If North slows it down, controls the clock, and sustains drives keeping their defense out of tough spots they have a chance. Both teams appear to be well coached. Turnovers could play a big part in this game. I still believe that South will wear them down. Hard fought game, but the Mighty Mighty Rebels pull away late. SSHS 35 SNHS 20
  22. As a south supporter, I would love to see this match-up. We've all seen the crop of talent DB brings to the table each year and I went down to the black hole last year in the State semifinal game and saw Maryville play a very impressive game against a good South team. I would love to watch these two beat up on each other. Both programs are incredible, can you imagine the atmosphere at this game!
  23. Much respect to the golden raiders from this former rebel on an excellent season thus far. I think the game will be competitive but in the end South has a little too much fire power. Rebs pull away late 34-14.
  24. There have been some great posts for this thread... Maryville Red Rebel fans you are a class act. I wish safe travel for all whether coming from near or far. I look forward to what i hope to be a good game between two sets of fine young men. Those who play with great respect for the game, receive great respect. Good luck! GO BIG BLUE!!
  25. Game day is finally here!!! Been reading the posts for this thread, a couple of things stick out in my mind. (1) Does anyone really give south a chance- No... (2) Even the folks predicting a south win sound like they do so just in case it does really happen, they have bragging rights. I am far from an expert on high school football history in our state. But i do know this... what has been done in the past is in the past. Maryville is very deserving of the highest praise. When building a program, Maryville would be the one to emulate. That being said (look out here it comes): -They put their pants on one leg at a time just like us -On any given night... -Thats why they play the games -Ever heard of David vs. Goliath? -Im asking you to be perfect, can you be perfect? (friday night lights in case ur wondering) -they are not a machine. if you hit them, they feel pain. if they get cut they will bleed. -you play to win the game -all things must come to an end -leave it all out there on the field First let me say in no way am I discounting anything Maryville has done or their great accomplishments. I wish that above all both teams have a safe journey to and from the field and emerge from this game without injury. This is for the 2007 Sullivan South Rebels: Lace em up tight. Get ready for a battle. Play with each other, for each other. This game means a lot to the fans but this game is for the players. Play for you, play for the seniors who are not ready to go home. Play hard, play fast, play fair, play smart, and give every ounce that you have. Hit em in the mouth cause they will do the same to you. You deserve to be here, dont let anyone tell you otherwise. I'm loading up and headin down to the black hole, with a caravan of past players to support big blue. Show em how the boys from death valley play. GO GET YOUR RESPECT!!
