  1. Don't Care - you know so much maybe you could change your screen name to Genius - good think you picked greeneville to hate at least you get to post for 3 more weeks!
  2. This is not much fun to watch. I can't keep up with the posts. I picked 45-10 last week. I was off a little. Anyway, both teams have a combined w/l record of 23-1. That's pretty good by anyone's standards. Both teams know how to win. I think that each week it gets a little tighter, but it is the state tourney. Without big REL on defense, we got a hole to fill. We got two or three key players in big spots that I keep hoping that we don't lose to injury. Anyway, I'm not a pro film scouting god or even a holy football ghost that was able to watch every team every week and know what every player is, was, or will be thinking. So, in other words this is just a guess. Greenville - 38 Gibbs - 14
  3. I think that both basketball teams and the wrestling team would have a couple of state championships if we had always been in the correct classification. Wrestling had one runner up in mid 90's along with two or three 3rd place finishes.
  4. As soon as someone knows for sure, please let us know about Terrell.
  5. TSSAA will not tell the cut-off in advance. It does change based upon the number of schools at each level. Greeneville could end up in 3A and South Greene could drop to 2A. We don't know. Was Terrell ejected? Is it one game or two for football? I think one?
  6. LOL Barb and Kev-O, since you know so much about Greeneville, you should now that I am not a player nor a coach. I have cooked for some of the team at least once. I really get tired of the crap and most of the time I see your names on every post (not always the crap). I keep up with all upper east tennessee sports, more specifically baseball and sometimes other sports. I want to see our guys ready to play and not worried about something that won't happen thsi year. When they schedule each other, then you two can stir up all you want to. Go Devils.....Beat Fulton!
  7. No they are not. But they don't play!!!! We got seven pages of something to distract players from focusing on a state championship for either team. But, instead we are getting kids all worked up over something that will never happen. How about you sit down and write the players a letter of encouragement a wish them luck this week!
  8. Both teams have called TSSAA and alreadyy had their trophy engraved. Let's let the discussion cease until it is all said and done and they both have their championship trophy. Then, they could play a televised matchup at the Titans stadium on Sun. after they tell the Titans they are taking over. If that doesn't work, maybe they could just invade Neyalnd and play their!
  9. I just heard that Shelton has stepped down at North Greene. Any truth to this. After four decent years from teams of the past, where is he going? He had one year of sub-state baseball and from what I hear a really good and potentially great freshman class, why is he leaving?
  10. Easy on this one, I can hear it now. Board oF Coontrol has recommended making TSSAA official overseeing body of Booster Clubs. They must register with the schools and pay the team fees. The elected officials must be certified and pay a fee. The must attend classes each year. The school must pay for their membership status. And, they will need to send a person to attend each meeting to oversee (He will be scheduled as all other officials). Oh and at the end of the year, there gonna take 33 1/3 of you net just because they can. Sounds like funm but they find a way to dip into those accounts???
  11. I will not gripe about what a person makes. And as for comparing their hourly rate to most of us, how many of us have jobs where during the course of it on any given day you hear about how you need to see the eye doctor, to go home, you suck, and any number of obscenities, plus the threats against your person at times? Lots of things to consider. Are you working in a classroom? LOL You make a lot of valid points. As for TSSAA, I think they need a little pressure from the schools in refusing their demands. The anount they freely take at tournaments to pay whoever or what ever, the fees they charge schools just to be a member, the fees they then charge for each sport, the fines, and so forth. Schools lose more and more to them every year and cant or wont do anything about it. Then when they cancel sports, they are the bad person. It would be tough to restart, but could be done. It's just tough economic times on everyone; The parents, players, coaches, officials, schools, and even the organization. We are gonna lose sports, maybe even some schools. States and the National government is struggling and I think we are facing major issues in the next five years.
  12. I knew this would become a back and forth discussion. I'm sorry but the expenses are understood. You work a normal job, right. Do they pay your gas? No. Do they cover your meals? No. Do they pay you $21.25 per hour. (Most of the time, no!) This is nuts. The schools systems in Greene county have not given their teachers a raise in 3 years or more. What your asking for here is a 20% plus raise. Oh and by the way an increased hardship on the schools. The problem here is not officials. The problem here is not the coaches or the schools. The problem here is TSSAA. The guys who sit back in an office and decide that what is best for a AAA school also works for a A school that has 10 visiting parents that traveled an hour and 45 minutes for a conference game. Schools need to refuse joining TSSAA and if enough of them do it we can fix this. Unfortunately, no one will and it will only get worse until schools can no longer offer certain sports. In the Region 1A division, those schools can no longer or have never been able to offer many "secondary" sports due to expense; Wrestling, Golf, Tennis, Volleyball, Football (UH), and track. Why? They can not afford to after paying football, basketball, baseball and softball. There is no solution until the Totalitarian regime is removed in Nashville!
  13. Binns, sorry to hear that. Once they were supposed to get the increase, it was not a good idea to rescind it. What was the increase supposed to be? I know this is going to turn into a horrible back and forth arguement. But, I have to say good move TSSAA. Sorry officials, I know there is a lot of expense involved. But $85.00 for a V/JV DH is a good pay check. Most of those games are two 5 inning games or a 7 and a 5. It usually starts at 4:30 and is over by 8:30. Thats $21.25 per hour and we won't even get into the discussion of what happens if you make a mistake or show up in a bad mood. Most single A games I have seen have 20 people max in the stands and can't even afford to pay you on a regular night. I have heard two teams talking about shutting down JV and that would mean a decrease in pay for you guys anyway. I say thanks you TSSAA.
  14. I can very happily say that I was wrong and offer my congrats to Hancock. Whats the lowdown on the game? Who pitched? Who played well? Maybe Unaka will beat harriman and Region 1 will be well represented at the boro!
  15. This is by no means meant to offend you. You have the trophy and that was absolutely great. You beat Unaka's number 3 and maybe their number two at the end. They were saving their number one for Fri and had been all week. You will be lucky if you pull off an "upset" of an established Rockwood program. I do wish you the best of luck and hope a team from Region 1 makes it to state. Prove me wrong!
  16. Hey Crazzyness, things seem to be well up on the North end of the state. Congrats to another great year. Greene county seems to be doing better in the AA division than the A division this year. Not much excitement their. Hadn't talked to Shelton in a while, any rumors from over there after a poor season.
  17. Don't get your hopes up guys, this will sink the finances of some of the very small schools. All current bats have the BESR certification and the new requirement calls for a BBCOR, so it doesn't matter whether its a two piece or composite or whatever. It will be illegal! The companies will not retest bats no longer in production, so if its a year old you might as well throw it a way. I have told all HS players that I have talked to not to buy anything until they now for sure what is going to happen. I hope the next year puts these companies out of business!
  18. After that kind of show, he will definite see more walks. Where were they playing?
  19. By the screen name and posts it's quite obvious on which side of the argument you are from. I once again have to say by your posts. 1. My credibility was disproved by you brilliance....Just like in a game you are always right! 2. You have been to and watched the same games as I and have not witnessed any bad calls.....You are a mastermind at baseball and softball rules and no one can argue against your perfection in making those decisions! 3. The word may is used to say that had the calls been correct the outcome would have been different.....Since MAY allows us to say that we will never know (because we won't).....You are also a literary genius and Webster's calls on you to verify the use of words in context of common language...I'm guessing that NFHS may call on you as well to verify confusing text in the rule book. 4. Lastly, you end with saying "Now, it's Over".....Meaning that you are right and your points can not be argue. Looking at these 4 points! You must be an umpire. You are always right, Your decisions making skills are perfect, you are a literary interpreter of the NFHS rule book, your decision is final and can not be argued. I'm done Mr. Umpire! You have more than over proved your point about your and all other umpires inability to ever make a mistake. Thanks for your help!
  20. I agree but didn't say that. If you look at my last post. I argued about the 10% of bad ones. But, I didn't brag on the 90% doing a good job. Thanks to those of you who stay up to date on the rules, and are always trying to become a better official and making H.S. sports great. 5
  21. How fun this is going to be. I have probably watched between 35-40 High school baseball and softball games this year. No I agree in most cases the umpire does not control the outcome. Only 3-5 may have had the outcome changed. That's only 10%. How many jobs allow you to be right only 90% of the time. Hmmmmm. None you get fired. I'm not blaming the umps for anything. I'm blaming TSSAA. What irks me is when the umpire makes the zone wide and cause teams to start expanding their zone, striking out, or swinging at bad pitches. That speeds up the game drastically. Why? so he can get paid the same for less time. Now the better team will usually win the same, but it's not baseball or softball and it's not Fair to the kids. As far as what the coach can or can't say. You are wrong. Most coaches are better than that and you know it. They will try to get their jabs in when they can't but they can't fuss about the calling. The umpires have their hands tied and you know it. There are some that don;t know when to quit and do it anyway and I say good for them. the rest just take it day in and day out knowing nothing wil ever be done!
  22. OK. This is easy enough. There is no accountability. There is no instant reply to fix mistakes. There is no deduction of pay when they mess up. Oh wait, there is no coach with the ability to eject an umpire. Therefore, the umpire has complete control of all situations, including what coaches can or can't say. Yes, I guess you could report an umpire for fraternizing with the opposing team that's getting more calls. You could let TSSAA know that he has missed more calls than he got right or the strike zone is bad. What good does that do? TSSAA is in need of umpires so he probably won't ever even hear that he had a complaint. It's a joke. It's like having a job with a boss that says you can do what you want too. TSSAA is the problem here not the umps. Until TSSAA gets things under control, these problems will pop up year after year!
  23. Can you review the ejections or penalties on the TSSAA site. I heard another instance where a player was ejected at Hancock County. After being ejected, he had to be removed from the entire area. Later, the officials found out he was of relation to some coach, teacher, or booster. When they, wrote the incident up, it was only written up as confinement to the dugout so that he would not have to sit out games. How do you find out what was written up and let TSSAA know that this crap is going on.
  24. They didn't face each other at the jamboree did they???? Thats what my post was about. I understand that they are the top pitchers pitching on opening day. Greeneville was better......9-1 on monday.
  25. pre-season playdays are so hard to judge when you don't see the best versus the best all the time. sometimes you see the fourth and fifth pitchers. I'll definitely say that both sg and greeneville have very athletic teams and it will be fun to watch them all year.
