  1. How the 12a teams have done thus far: Wayne county (5-0): Looking exceptional just as everyone thought they would. Daniel and risner are both averaging double figures. The rest of the team is contributing as well. May be the deepest bunch in the district. Loretto (4-1): Loretto appears very balanced as they have won games against quality oppenents. They won a game against marshall county and laws didn't even score, which shows their depth. Both laws and hemmen are averaging double-digits, and in all actuality, hemmen may actually be their best overall player. Perry County (2-1): Starting five looks strong as they all have scored in every game. They have three players averaging double figures, and at least four starters have scored double-digits at least once. They appear to be a real contender for a district title. Summertown (2-2): Could easily be 1-3, but had a fierce rally late to beat spring hill. With smith gone and graham out with her injury (anyone know how long she is out?), summertown's once great depth has been diminished to near nothing. Quality players like grooms, franklin, and long are carrying them. Collinwood (3-3): Lost three of their last four games, all of which have been to quality opponents. Much improved from this summer and overall the girls have been impressive. Their youth still shows at times, but it may just be possible for this group to compete in the district. Nikki Robertson and Alexis Haddock have been our team's key contributors thus far. Frank Hughes (1-2): Played weak teams, but they have already won more games this year than all of last year. Bumphus has been really good for Clifton so far.
  2. We graduated 85% of our offense. I hope we do some butt-whooping, but it is highly unlikely.
  3. Your maturity is showing as well. I am sure the perry county girls, and all perry county teams appreciate your support, but you are certainly going about it the wrong way. I doubt your girls team over there approves of some of these posts. Let them play the games and prove how good they are on the court....
  4. We would have to play tremendously well to beat Cornersville. We don't have anyone at the skill level or experience level of fagan and hopkins. I think our center's size will impact cornersville on the defensive end, but it won't be enough for us to beat them. I hope we are able to give Cornersville a good game. This game should really show were our Trojanettes are really at.
  5. Maybe PC's defense led to greenfield's cold shooting and numerous turnovers. We play some pretty good ball down here in 12A. I doubt greenfield could beat any of 12a's top four teams by 15+ points! They certainly couldn't do it on a consistent basis. Greenfield has had strong teams the past couple of years, but lets not pretend that they have really done anything so great as to assume that they are some tremendous dynasty up there in 14A that just rolls over other teams. You act like you got beat by a lesser quality team, which most certainly is not the case.
  6. Collinwood played really well against santa fe, at least much better than they did against richland. We were glad to get the win over santa fe, but in all reality, we are not nearly as good as the big four in our district (wc, pc, stown, and loretto). I can only imagine what those four teams would do to santa fe. 12a teams went 9-1 in hall of fame games with our only loss being summertowns to moore county. Not looking very good for 11a right now....
  7. PC will not finish #1, but they are probably alot closer to loretto and summertown than you think. I don't think they will lose six district games, because they will likely get one or two from someone. I don't think they have the size or depth to beat Waynesboro, but they do have enough to beat Loretto and Summertown. The simmons girl is extremely good and i am fairly certain she eclipsed 1,000 points sometime last season. I know she has taken over games against us in the past and she was very hard to contain once she got going. The starkey girl isn't too bad either. Tennessean had her as the leading scorer against Greenfield, who is always good. Other than them two, i really don't know much about the others. The dark complected girl is probably a little better than she was in the past, but she always seemed lazy to me. On another note, Collinwood looked much better in their games Friday and Saturday night against richland and santa fe, two of 11a's tougher teams. I was impressed with how much better our guard play has gotten. Kelsie and Jessie have both looked much improved. Hanna played much better against Santa Fe than richland, and she did an excellent job defending santa fe's big girl. I am glad that they appear to be playing more as a team now than they did in the summer. I still don't think we have enough to beat any of the other four, but we should at least keep it somewhat competitive.
  8. In all fairness though, hickman county is terrible, and many JV teams could beat them.
  9. No one in 11A has the highly skilled players necessary to compete with them. The only way Wayne county would lose to someone in 11A is if something happened to both risner and daniel. even if they lost one of them, they would be still be alot for any the 11A teams to handle. If you honestly think there is not a major gap between 11A and 12A this year, then just look at the Loretto and CA game from last night. Loretto could just as likely finish 2nd as 4th in 12A, yet they beat CA, a consensus top 3 team in 11A by nearly 40 points!!
  10. It will probably be worse for summertown if she goes back. The turmoil will continue to happen all year long because of the one in charage. Smith is not exactly a star by any means, but she is a quality player and probably summertown's best overall player. The best thing for them and her is that she go somewhere where she will feel appreciated and get treated equally to the other players and that likely will not happen at summertown from here on out. Trust me, this won't be the first issue with summertown this season, and smith, very likely, won't be the only one to quit before it is all said and done.
  11. 1. Wayne county 2. Perry county 3. Summertown 4. Collinwood 5. Loretto 6. Clifton
  12. I really don't know if her family has the gusto to actually move her. She is still enrolled there as of today. Based on what I have been told, a move is probably best for her both this season and in the long run. If they do move her to one of the two places mentioned.... If she goes to lawrence county, she would play in a much tougher district and classification, which would benefit her if she wants to play college ball. Lawrence county would benefit because they could use her quickness and outside shooting abilities at the guard spot. Lawrence county is already a threat to win their district and make a run at a region title, both this year and next. Plus, i'm told she has numerous friends there, so it would be easy for her to move and fit right in. If she goes to wayne county, byrd probably would not start her this season because he has a starting line-up already and numerous seniors that have been there for four years. Parents would be irate if she came in and started. However, next season, wayne county would be down with only risner and reed back, so she would be a star for them.
  13. No one said you couldn't beat collinwood because alot of teams are probably going to beat us this year. It is true that the trojanettes are definitely not what they once were. 11A need not be concerned with collinwood because they likely will not get out of the district this year because the other four teams are extremely strong. As for Wayne county, that is a different story. No one in 11A can come within 15 points of them.
  14. Hmmm, i wonder who CATS1 could be???? Also, the facts are that morris ran off players while he was here and now he is running them off at summertown. we may have our own problems but they stem from when he was here. i don't think he was to blame for everything that went wrong down here, but apparently he has issues everywhere he goes. Either way it doesn't matter and I am done discussing him. If she's off, summertown probably finishes fourth. It's hard to replace your starting point guard and leading scorer from a year ago.
  15. We heard that down here yesterday as well. Was told that she was upset that morris did not start her during their playday at martin, and to make matters worse, morris had apparently commented to someone that she wouldn't start all this year. He had already told some people in collinwood that he was going to shake it up at summertown because some of the younger girls were better than the older girls. Its morris, so its not a real surprise. Is smith going to transfer? We heard she might be going to Lawrence County?
  16. I agree that hickman, or possibly even page, will be on top when its all over with. Lewis county could win it so long as helton doesn't try to do everything through his daughter and make it all about her this season. Despite what he thinks, she is not even close to being the best player on that team.
  17. These are a little surprising, even though it was only a playday. I don't think anyone thought perry would go undefeated. Why did loretto have such a hard time beating chester county when summertown and perry beat them fairly easily according to the scores on the other thread? didn't play the starters or what? Perry may actually be the surprise team with everyone picking them 3rd or 4th. i've long believed that that bunch has all the pieces, they just don't always play hard. if they played hard each and every possession, like summertown does, it would be very difficult for anyone to beat them. Speaking of summertown, does anyone know how coach morris looked with them? did they run the same stuff as with willard or is morris changing it up? i am sure the summertown faithful have an opinion by now. On a side note, where was collinwood cause they typically go to martin for this playday? I haven't heard anything around here about them going to a playday. maybe our girls are so good they don't need one, huh? i hope our trojanettes can surprise a couple of the big four, but it just doesn't seem very possible this year.
  18. MORE proven????? What has SF or CA ever done???? Nada!! If you compare head to head matchups in regular season and tournament play between 12a and 11a just over the last seven years, 12a wins anywhere from 70% to 80% of those games. Plus, how many teams from 11a have made the state tournament in the last seven years? That would be 1, which was cornersville in 2009. 12a has sent 7 teams to the state tournament during that period with summertown, wayne county, perry county, and collinwood all making an appearance during that span. We could go back even further but the statistics would be even more embarrasing for 11a. The only team with any real type of girls basketball tradition that has been in 11a in recent years was moore county, and now they are in 9a, so you can't even claim them. And don't expect it to be any better this year. At MOST, 11a wins one region 6a tournament game and I highly doubt that happens, and none of the 11a teams stand a chance at getting to Murfreesboro.
  19. This is the toughest this district has been in the past few years, and we have always been tough. The top four teams are all very experienced and have quite a bit of talent. I see it going down like this in 12a: 1. Wayne county: Until someone can knock them off, they are on top. They have a lot of size, especially the daniels girl, that no one else has, plus risner is extremely tough at pg spot. 2. Loretto: They return everyone including laws who was MVP last year, though I don't think alot of people felt she deserved it being on the 5th seeded team. She's a strong player but when you are taking 80% of the team's shots and the rest of the team is told to do nothing but pass it to you, obviously you are going to put up big numbers. Still, they should finish higher this year with everyone back. Also heard they have a pretty good freshman class which never hurts. 3. Summertown: Also returns everyone but a coach that put them in positions to win games they shouldn't have. With morris as head coach, i don't know if Summertown even finishes this high. He hasn't actually had great success against perry county in the past and the pc girls have ability to beat everyone ahead of them. 4. Perry county: Heard they are starting all seniors, which is probably an advantage for them over other teams. They have simmons who is the best guard in the district, so i suspect she will be enough to keep them in games with the three teams above them. She'll need some help if they are to compete for a 12a title though. 5. Collinwood: Well, I think you could say that this will be a little bit of a stressful year for us trojanette fans for many reasons. We don't have the quality players that we need to beat any of the top four. I don't even see us being close in any of those games. I'm afraid we're all going to be watching one player jack up a billion shots while the rest just stand out there. I hope i am wrong and that they, and the entire situation, has improved, because i dread to think of what it will be like if it hasn't gotten any better since this summer. 6. Clifton: I think they have some decent 8th graders coming up after the middle school season which should help. Maybe they won't go winless this year. Our districts top four teams are extremely strong compared to the other districts top four. Wayne county, loretto, and perry county all appear to be playing extremely tough schedules, which may not do much for their records, but should prepare them for post season play. As for district MVP, it will probably be either laws at loretto, simmons from pc, or daniel from waynesboro.
  20. I think the teams from 11a will end up with: 1. Cornersville 2. SF 3. CA 4. Richland 5. Cully 6. MP 7. Hampshire It probably won't matter for them who ends up where come region tournament time. I don't see 11a's top four teams beating any of 12a's top four, because all of those teams return the majority of their team from the year before--and they were all good last year. 12a is probably the strongest it has been in a long time. It will be one of the toughest districts in the state this year. But its a long season and there can be injuries, players quitting, transfers, ect., so something could change by the time february rolls around.
  21. I was told today by a secondary source who knows a couple of people involved with the summertown school that a decision has officially been made on the head coaching position and that it was morris. They chose to have him coach the girls over trotter coaching both teams, and trotter is very upset. Also heard that some of the girls have officially called it quits, but who could blame them since many of them are exceptional softball or volleyball players and will excel in those sports without all of this coaching drama. Plus, if you have a hard time relating to morris then it can be a very tough and long year on a player that plays for him. He does as good of a job as he can, but many times his players are not very happy. LEfan, or any of the other summertown posters, have any info on what has or has not happened???
  22. I saw dresden when they were in camp this summer here in waynesboro. They have solid guard play but not much else. I got a chance to see them when they played some of the district 12a teams. They were thumped by both waynesboro and perry county on two different occassions. They did play well and beat collinwood one game i believe, and i believe they beat adamsville, westmoreland, and someone else. They looked a lot better than west carroll who i believe is also in their district. If dresden is the best in that district, then it cannot be very tough. I know gleason is always good, and if they have anything at all, then they should be able to beat dresden based on what i seen out of them this summer. Good luck to them.
  23. I think we should be thankful those teams were as good as they were, and that they at least got to state once, because from the looks of things, it may be a very long time before our girls make any more appearances in murfreesboro.
  24. We had heard here in Collinwood that coach morris was going to be the head coach. has he decided that he didn't want the job or they just want to consider everyone that is interested? we also heard that some of the girls on the team have decided not to play this year and will be focusing solely on either volleyball or softball. i don't know how true that is but with willard gone, they would need someone special to keep that program where it has been the past ten years or so. i don't see how you could get a real high quality coach with the school year already started. morris isn't a bad coach, despite what some here say about him. he just might be the very best option for Summertown. good luck to them on finding a coach.
  25. Here is a link to the story with quotes from both coaches: Fight Marred Tornado Scrimmage Cut Short
