  1. and by this, are you saying only have one public division also? Don't see how putting both privates in one division would give TSSAA "1 or possibly 2 more championship games"??? (Also public school educated, but I had a really good Math teacher)
  2. You may not have privates in Single A, but AA final has two "private magnet" schools playing for championship. Announcer just said that any kid in Nashville can go to East Lit and pretty well known fact that athletes somehow get their lottery number pulled for Liberty. I am thinking the magnets are more private than the privates and probably have a much larger recruiting base.
  3. the best team will be the one that wins Saturday and is holding the gold ball.... end of discussion. That is the reason the tournament is played. There are 8 teams left - they are all good or would not be there.
  4. Prayers going out this morning to ECS and the tragic death of their student who was on the golf team, and for the 3 kids on the football team that were injured in the wreck. This really hits home that football (or any sport) is a game and it is just devastating to lose one of ours, and when it comes down to it, they are ALL ours if they attend our school or not. God's peace.
  5. Trojan - always enjoy your posts and your insights. What happens in the West if JCS happens to get by St. George's and a three way tie ? Non-district Div II games only or all non district games? That would seem to penalize JCS by playing the big boys - Milan and Crockett.
  6. I guess I did miss it a little.....USJ is not the same team as it was the first of the season. They really made a turn around at ECS last week and clicked on all cylinders last night. Everyone keeps forgetting how young USJ really is, starting a LOT of Sophomores. If they keep improving, hopefully can make some waves come tournament time.
  7. A field goal will decide this game....should be a good one.
  8. Congrats to St. George on big win at USJ Friday. They are tough and have a passing game this year to match their running game, and very hard to defend. Score was actually 20-17, and an on-side kick from getting really interesting. USJ is young at a lot of spots and hopefully will grow a little from this game. The next two weeks (ECS and JCS) will go a long way in determining the season. Playoffs should be fun with St. George, USJ, JCS, ECS looking like the main contenders. We will see, but with the close games between St. George and ECS and then USJ and St. George, anything can happen - gotta love this time of the year!
  9. Good start to the thread - I always look forward to your posts, Trojan. Lots of questions will be answered starting next week. USJ plays St. George's, ECS, and Jackson Christian in a 3 week stretch. Lots of young guys that are going to have to step up. After tough win at Trinity in week 1, convincing win at Fayette last week, and what should be an easy win tonight against Jackson Central Merry, they will have 3 games under their belt - it should be fun. Until I am proved differently, if ECS is anywhere near as big as they were last year, I would say they are the favorites, followed by USJ, and then JCS/St. George.
  10. Class post, Stockerd - I agree it was a great game, great atmosphere, and an unbelievable crowd at this game. I had a seat but no way I could see so stood the entire 2nd half and still have to look over, around, and through people. TCA will be tough to deal with this year.
  11. Old Fearless (Jackson Sun) picks TCA for what that's worth.
  12. All I can say is HURRY UP FRIDAY AND GET HERE !!! Think this is going to be a good game and give Trinity a shot with this being first game of the year. I think USJ will get better as the year goes along and some of the younger players get some games under their belt. That being said, I pick USJ 21-14 - should be cooler but think depth is going to be a factor.
  13. USJ 2-0 with starters. I am not for sure you can guage a team by one scrimmage, but thought defense looked good. Receivers dropped some passes in the first series that would have easily given us another score. Hey, it was Friday night - it was football....it's all good !
  14. My understanding is that the scrimmage is at 7:00. Football scrimmage along with soccer scrimmage is part of a back to school bash for the entire school that runs 5-8 - will be lots of people there. As far as Webb discussion - they did not "drop" down to single A - that is where they were classified by enrollment. If they choose to "move up" to double A, that is their choice but to say they are playing "down" in single A is missing the point......although after the State Championship game last year, I was wishing they had "chosen" to stay AA
  15. Maybe because her team won the tournament? Same team that no one gave a shot of getting past the first round a couple weeks ago? Someone obviously stepped up.
  16. My opinion: We need two "sets" of cheerleaders. One competitive squad that goes to competitions and maybe performs at halftime of games occasionally. Before I get crucified, I would argue with anyone that these are true athletes. We need another set of cheerleaders who truly love the game, love the team, pay attention, know when to cheer, know when to be quite, lead the fans to help the team, and honestly care whether the team wins or loses. The big problem, in my humble opinion, is when the competitive squad are your game cheerleaders. I feel that in the growing majority of cases, these cheerleaders are there for their sport and not the sport they should be supporting. They look bored during the game and only waiting on the next time out so they can flip down the floor. (Ok, now you can crucify me - but I calls it as I sees it)
  17. Started three replies and have erased everyone. My Momma always said to never argue with an idiot and for once I am taking her advice.
  18. If the way this is portrayed is true, then it would be just as illegal in Division II as it is in Division I
  19. DCA beats USJ 52-45. Nasty collision between two USJ players in second quarter (head to head). McWherter (only USJ player on all region team) does not play second half due to mild concussion and back up center fouls out with 4 minutes left in 3rd quarter, so USJ played without center last quarter and a half, which really hurt on the boards. Give DCA credit, they did start knocking down their shots in last quarter. USJ got within 2-3 points one time in 4th, but could not get any closer. Good game, fans and atmosphere. By the way this is a lot more coverage of the game than you will see anywhere in print. Jackson Sun printed the box score - that's hit. Hometown team in a sub-state game - no coverage before game - no coverage after game - at least they are consistent.
  20. FRA at Lausanne Davidson Academy at Harding Should be great games. Too bad they don't even list the games on the scoreboard. These girls deserve better than that. Thanks for the update on the games in the West. Other two substate games are: Fayette Academy @ Knoxville Webb USJ @ Donelson Christian Academy
  21. Harding beats Lausanne by 6 points I think tonight for the West Championship. Another blow to Lausanne is that their post girl went down with knee injury in 2nd quarter. Heard that it was MCL and would find out later about ACL - hoping that report is wrong and she can come back Friday. Definitely a blow to Lausanne tonight without her or Avant. USJ beat Fayette Academy in consolation 48-30 after Fayette had won the 2 meetings in regular season.
  22. Division II West Girls Consolation Game: USJ 48 Fayette Academy 30 Championship Game: Harding Academy over Lausanne (sorry do not have score, but about 6 points)
  23. USJ had no answer for Toney - he is the best player I have seen this year, but St. George's had 2 others that were knocking down 3's also and USJ was just cold from the outside.
