  1. can we spell ignorance or do we just keep revealing it on coacht.
  2. Homer, You just got slam dunked. Great post tdog and a excellent ideal.
  3. Looks like the Highlanders are ready to challenge for the conference championship.
  4. I wouldn't laugh too loud muffin. They have come back with vengance after Christmas which is a pattern of past Unaka teams. For the past three games they have played well. And how many teams in Tennessee played 10 of their first 12 games on the road. You my friend who laughed first will probably last laugh. I will be willing to bet the house that Unaka will end up at the Boro come tournament time. They were minus several key players during an 7 game stretch and now they are back at full strength. Try goiing to their place and playing a sub-state game. You think Pickett County and Cosby are tough places to play, Unaka is like playing before a crowd of hungry wolves.
  5. The article by Tim about Hampton basketball in this week's Double Play Sports was as good of article that I have ever read in quiet some time. It contained tons of information and some that I did not know while working in Elizabethton. You are gifted as a writer, so is Krich. Kids don't invest the time into sports as they did years ago. And modern technology has overtaken the lifestyle of our children. I would be interested to hear more about Hampton basketball from years ago.
  6. coach17, wasn't it kinda funny when you had the two top players returning in county baughman for eliz. and chambers for unaka and here is a picture of warriors only on the front cover. does not speak well for the cyclones, rangers, bulldogs nor highlanders. nice picture but a poor display toward the other schools by the star sports department.
  7. Tolley the best player in Carter County. He's not the best player on the team. That honor goes to Mark Byrd. Take Mark off the floor and his production along with the entire team goes south. As for the best player in Carter County, hands down Rusty Chambers. I covered almost all the Elizabethton games last season but the times I got to see Unaka play Chambers was very good. This season he has a great group of players that play around him. The next three are Lester Bailey, Mark Byrd, and Tim Whaley. These kids play hard and show up for practice everyday. "Year round" Bristol C. will feature top players in the area in the upcoming week.
  8. Where did that information come from?
  9. some people never realize what they had until it is gone. no one works for free.
  10. Hey Tdog you could move up to the land of blue and gold and maybe run for mayor of Roan Mtn. You could let Cobb Marlow serve as your campaign manager. If you and Krich every get tried of where you're at give me a call sometime. As I stated, you revived a sinking ship that was near the bottom. It says much when you can be objective to Cloudland and people not get mad. The same can't be said for the Whiteway Grill piece. It's called respect. Those folks know you and Kim will take care of their kids. I must say that I have enjoyed reading the paper and Coach T for the past week.
  11. I have just finished reading the last 7 issues of Double Play Sports. Cloudland ought to be thankful for the coverage they get. Tim and Kim have been very gracious to your and your program. Everything they have written has been positive about your program. If you don't think it's hard to write a story, trying sitting down and doing it one night. Try getting it out before a deadline. Most of all try writing an objective story without making someone mad. You will find it a difficult job. I've read the story several times and never did he degrade your coach. He gave him credit for his x's and o's, his leadership, dedication, hard work etc.. he just pointed out something that most people with any morals already know, you don't slap someone in the face when their down. I still write for a newpaper, although I don't get to see the Highlanders play too often. But rest assured that Tim is very supportive of the Cloudland team and to Coach Lunsford. He just happen to disagree with him on this matter but I noticed he slapped at Unaka for the after game conduct. Instead of being offended we can often learn if we keep quiet and listen. Great Job Tim and good luck to both Coaches and their teams in the playoffs.
  12. To Dogman, To answer your question about Unaka basketball. (Loaded) 4 starters return including last year's leading scorer for the East Tn. area. One of the top teams in this area.
  13. I agree, the best story that I have read up to date inside DP Sports. You've got to remember H. Head, these guys are very educated. Carter County is lucky to have a sports weekly paper that's focus is nothing but on high school, jr. high and youth club sports. They might have slapped the highlanders on the wrist but they were also 4 pagers of nothing but highlander football, cheerleading and youth sports. They were quick to point out Unaka's wrongdoings which is the sign of a good reporter. I think the story on the cheerleaders was very good. They are a big part of high school football and don't get the credit they sometimes deserve. And when we were young they were fun to look at.
  14. The last time Jenkins was not pn the sidelines the Cyclones lost to Sullivan East. Do you think they will be up to the challenge tonight or will there be a letdown?
  15. :justwrestle: to sum it up best you guys have resurrected a sinking ship. I just read the paper this morning and the content is good and well written. The pictures are much sharper during past several weeks. I am sure the pay is great (right Kim!) Kim do I stand correct that TC is doing several of those stories? Spellling, grammer, sentence structure, are much different than in the past. I believe you guys are onto something. Does the one & only realize what he has there? Good help is hard to find.
  16. Hey Tdog, you are back at it again. This is nice. Lets give Kim a pat on the back. Hey Cam67girl, do you know Coachtdog and Krich. They both bleed maroon, although in his playing day I think tdog bled the Hampton blue.
  17. I told those boys at the Kingsport Times not to be drinking before picking football games. After this pick, I am sure that Hoople had quiet a hangover.
  18. Hey Krich, Who's ideal was it for the skydiving pictures and article? You guys have taken it to the next level. Just got the paper this morning, outstanding. The pictures are much clearer and the stories are getting better. The Whaleyless Warriors with the headphones on was very creative.
  19. Hey Camaro, I see that you too are reading the Double Play Weekly. They have really taken that thing up a notch. I too liked the article about college. Much time was spent on that. They had the best article that I have read in quiet some time this week on fifth quarter football. T.C. did a great job with it and I have heard many comments about this story. I think that Tim imput as a writer and an editor will hurt "well I won't go there" the other sports source in our town. And Kim your work is very good. I for one don't see North Greene playing the Highlanders close this week but hats off to Coach Bailey and his staff for the great job they have done with this football program. A class act is Bailey and so is his counterpart Coach Lunsford. By the way Camaro, that # 3 is one good receiver. I was talking to Tim of Double Play and he said that he felt like Hughes, King, Stocton and Christman were the best wide receiver / tight end combination in the state. The Highlanders will be undefeated when they meet Greenback later down the road.
  20. You can bet that CAK will be good down the road. Just talk to the coaching staff at Knox. Farragut. They are taking players from that system as of now. This past baseball season they had several kids who had played up throught the ranks with those players from Farragut. We here talk of Ezell, USJ, Jackson Christian and others but schools such as CAK and University High fall into this same category. When you can draw kids from outside your school district how can you help but have a good team. Small schools such as Cloudland, Unaka, Greenback etc. are very small communities and can draw only a certain number of kids. I got a good ideal of how CAK worked in baseball during their sub-state game with Unaka this past season. Many kids that played on that team could or should having been playing at Knox. Farragut. Bottom line. Until 2006 rolls around, Class A public schools are at a major disadvantage to win a state title. But as for Cloudland, fans better enjoy Byrd and company this season. Those shoes will never be filled regardless of what Highlanders fans might think.
  21. I will be at Tn. High for the Elizabethton TN. High game.
  22. That's too bad Krich, one of the nicest kids that I have ever talked too, I am sure that his basketball and baseball skills will be second to none this season. He could one of few players to be named to the all-state team in baseball as well as basketball. Good luck against North Greene.
  23. Can Rusty play and how do you see them using him? Can he learn everything in such little time. I bet the basketball coach is on pins and needles.
  24. Hey man, what is the game plan for Friday night? Can Unaka hang onto the football? Are they going to change anything and can they do a better job in the secondary of covering the pass? You mentioned a few new wrinkles. Are they having second thoughts about that offense? Have they made in changes for this weeks game. I am up on Elizabethton, Cloudland Happy Valley and Hampton but I need Ranger info.
