  1. Changing the number of weight classes isn't the problem, it's getting kids interested earlier. But while forfeits are more common, my team has been successful even forfeiting as many as four weight classes, so forfeits aren't as important as people make them sound. That and some teams have two or three good wrestlers all at one spot and only one can start so the back ups start thinking, "Well, I'm not starting so this doesn't matter." And they quit. We don't need to change the number of weight classes so schools forfeit less. We need to get kids interested earlier in a way that they won't burn out.
  2. I'm partial to: "The most wonderful sight on a basketball floor, is wrestling mats from door to door." "Winning is something, Pinning is everything." "Gold medals aren't made of gold. They're made of a rare alloy called GUTS." and my personal favorite. "I've never lost, I just ran out of time."
  3. When I was watching Patton wrestle I was scared. I know this was said eariler, but aside from his Croy match, he pinned everyone else, including Flynn, which I find a huge accomplishment. I chuckled a little seeing one person pick Patton to win state this year, but now I see why he said that. Heacock is a great wrestler, but when he lost in the round of 16, he had a tough road to get to the medal rounds. Another would be Miller of Greenback, and Matt Gabriel of Independence.
  4. 1. Flexing is considered taunting and is thus unsportsmanlike conduct and a team point. 2. It's the state finals. Let Daniel White get away with it. He won a big match on the biggest stage he's had. He deserved it.
  5. This did get best match, but it is kind of unfair to the heavier weights since it went into OT. the 189 final was close to the end, but because 160 went into OT, the 160 final got the nod for best match.
  6. I agree that they could start the tournament earlier in order to run a double elimination. That and I think that they should go ahead and put the DII in another venue. I also think that the bickering between DI and DII as to who is better could be decided with a DI Champ v. DII Champ dual. But that's neither here nor there.
  7. I went 5-9...I picked too many upsets and I'm willing to bet that no one expected Pipkin to pin Jadoobrisingh, except maybe Pipkin.
  8. Four of your picks didn't make the finals, and two didn't even place. But still, you have the finals ahead, but it was a gutsy call to pick that.
  9. Easy enough, Pick your winners for the finals. Tiebreakers are OW and Best Match 103: Overmyer v Hames 112: Jadoobrisingh v Pipkin 119: Biddy v Harless 125: Henley v Boone 130: Graham v Boone 135: Mang v Usary 140: Sohr v Daniel 145: Pavlou v Konz 152: Fuller v White 160: Shields v Brimer 171: Tolbert v Mustin 189: Croy v Wolfe 215: Quick v McPhee 285: Sliger v Mycyk OW: Best Match: and here are my picks. 103: Overmyer 112: Jadoobrisingh 119: Biddy 125: Boone 130: Graham 135: Mang 140: Sohr 145: Konz 152: White 160: Shields 171: Mustin 189: Wolfe 215: Quick 285: Mycyk OW: Quick Best Match: 189 lb.
  10. You don't count 2seam. But I agree that two champions seems a bit redundant. But there are merits to having both. Because the best team could not have the best individuals. I mean, Independence got 4th this year at the duals, and they probably wont get more than two medalists. If I had to pick one system to go by, I would keep the duals and remove the team championship from the tournament. If someone wants to keep track of that, fine, but I would think that the team score would be sitting in the back of the kid's mind as he wrestles. That's just my opinion.
  11. got to tssaa.org and the link is on the main page.

  13. My bad on Felix and Holliman, and yes they were both runner ups, but they were still in the state finals that year. And you are right that neither Wolfe nor Croy have won state, but they did wrestle in the medal rounds last year, but this year it will be tough for Wolfe to get to the finals while it seems that Croy almost gets a walk to the finals.
  14. There are many points of objection in the brackets, but remember that the seeding isn't like a normal tournament, that's why many ranked guys might wrestle in the first couple of rounds. But if you win in these conditions, that makes you a better wrestler.
