  1. Do not make an accusation like that unless you know it is true. That's how things like that get started and blown way out of proportion. Greeneville should win by as man as they want (they should I mean they did go to the semifinals in 4A last year). This district is not a lot of competition for them. Maybe they can continue their winning ways in the playoffs when they play some real competition.
  2. I would be willing to bet that the boys from Grainger Co are not going to change what they do for anyone. All of that stuff should not decide who wins or loses the game any way it is usually decided between the lines. Maybe if it all works out Monday we will get to see Grainger vs PF round four, i'm sure both teams would take it. But anyway you are right tough Unicoi is an intimidating place to play but I'm sure those Grainger Co boys are going to be just as loud and rowdy as they were at your place Thursday night tough. I'm also sure that the Grizzlies know that they will have their hands full on Monday and will have to play their best game of the season to pull of the upset at Unicoi. Good luck to both teams. Hopefully we'll see each other on Wed at your place.
  3. Anyone have any thoughts on this game Monday? This will make the fourth consecutive year that these two teams have faced off in the first round of the region. I know Grainger will have a tough time since this game is on the road but they are a solid club and I feel like they might have a chance at an upset here. Unicoi is a good team and is rich in tradition so this will be no easy feat for the Grizzlies. Grainger (Rutledge) was embarrassed at Unicoi last year so maybe the boys will be better prepared this time around.

    District 2-AA

Does anyone know if this game is going to be played tonight? Any info would be appreciated.
  5. Agitator evidently you couldn't tell that my post was laced with sarcasm I am a Grainger fan but I will take a nice plate of that home cookin today.
  6. Gallihugh pitched. Playtough I am glad that you watched the game in your rose colored sunglasses the sun was pretty bright at the field. I am just glad that the umpires were smart enough to see that Grainger was clearly out matched so they decided to give them a few calls so they could stay close in the game. Maybe the samething will happen today but I really don't know if Grainger will show up today since they are clearly out matched. Pigeon Forge is a great baseball team and deserved to win yesterday. Grainger had some chances with runners on but could not plate them. It was a great baseball game and the score indicated that. Gallihugh threw the ball very well and the tigers played very good defense behind him. Today is a new day I would not expect anything else but a good game today. Well that is I guess if the umpires help Grainger out. Evidently they need more than the umpires help to beat Pigeon Forge.
  7. Any news on the GP game?
  8. How could the coach not be there?
  9. Sorry tough I wasn't at the game and I've heard no news. Paper showed Grainger with 5 errors and 2 hits.
  10. Just got a call and heard Grainger loses to Hancock Co 3-2. The wheels must be coming off. Wow is all I can say.
  11. You talk about all these teams that it is going to come down to in the end Grainger has a combined 6 games against those teams (including PF and one with Carter who very well may finish first or second in their district). Of those teams PF plays Unicoi once and Gibbs once. So your logic here seems skewed. Grainger also played Mo East who will most likely win the IMAC. Now I am not saying that Grainger is playing the most difficult schedule but by your criteria they have the opportunity to be "battled tested". Now Pigeon played DB and Bearden and has some good competition in the sports belle tournament but I don't see their schedule being all that tough either. When these two teams play the schedules really are not going to matter. Ask anyone from both sides when these two play it is always a good baseball game to watch. I hope I have the opportunity to be there (its hard to make some of the road games). I believe that Pigeon Forge is the better baseball team and will ultimately win the district and the district tournament but please don't get on here and tell me how tough their schedule is. One thing that PF better hope is that they can some how avoid Anderson County after what happened last year. Coach Guinn put together a nice all star team there only to see his team get run ruled by all his old recruits.
  12. First off I'm sure that Grainger is not currently concerned about Pigeon Forge. They play GP next week and I hope that they will be fully focused on them. The coach there has done a pretty good job and is very competitive with Rutledge/Grainger every year (Probably should have beaten them twice last year). With the Watson kid pitching it seems that GP can beat anyone. Grainger and GP will be playing to secure second place in the district and have home field advantage for the tournament. As for the comment about Grainger's schedule and the level of competition, I'm no genius but you might want to look again. All that being said Pigeon Forge is the reigning champs and I'm sure they expect to be this year. They are probably the best double A team in East Tennessee. Coach Guinn is a good coach and is loaded with talent. I'm sure that this team is poised to make a return trip to the state tournament after a couple year absence. So with that all that being said Mon and Tues day are big for both GP and Grainger since Pigeon is so good I believe that everyone is probably playing for second place anyway.
  13. Yeah 5-0 in the disctrict with 4 wins coming against the claborne co schools some real power houses. And opinons are like noses everyone has one just like you. I guess your opinion doesn't matter either. AS for tradition the Grizzlies don't need to forget where they came from or what has always made them successful.
  14. Just looking at the scores its hard to figure this Grainger team out. It looks as if the can play with anyone and could also lose to anyone. I have only watched 5 of their 12 games but in my opinion this is one of the most inconsistent Rutledge teams I have ever seen. They have played pretty well defensively but can not get their bats going. But that being said they made 8 errors yesterday so they might not be able to play defense either. Oh and Coach Big Dog or whatever your name is the last time I checked Gibbs and Seymour are not in Grainger's District so their opinions probably don't matter to much. Maybe if you would coach up that talent they could play. I'm sure they are looking for help. They better worry about their district because from the looks of things it appears that Union, Gatlinburg, and Pigeon Forge is going to give them all they want. They might not even make it out of the District. Heck if that happens I guess that could say at least Gibbs and Seymour think we are good. I've been a Pioneer baseball fan for a long time I would hate to see the Grizzlies ruin the rich tradition that was established.
  15. I seen yesterday where GP gave Pigeon a pretty good game. Any info on the game? Who pitched for both teams?
  16. I don't think this Grainger team is as good as everyone thought going into the season.
  17. Seen where the Grizzlies started 2-0 with a big win against Gibbs. Any info on the games?
  18. Well Coach Jesse was not to classy for a few brief moments on Friday night. He did say something to McBee while he was standing at the free throw line and said it in an angry manner. This is why the referee had a chat with the coach. He should have been given a technical foul. Regardless of the call, good or bad, coach Jesse was in the wrong. I understand it was a big game and tempers were hot but a coach should never do that to an opposing player. Also a little reminder to all of you out there don't tug on Superman's cape.
  19. Did you watch the game? And at not point in this thread did anyone say how great Grainger was. All I remember reading was how great Cosby was. I guess the Cosby players in the fourth walking out of the huddle out of breath and it looking like number 85 begging to come out means they are in sorry shape as well. As for the Mcbee kid he is a class act and a good kid. He also was not doing anything that the Cosby players was not doing, which does not make it right. I personally did not see him take any cheap shots but that does not mean he didn't. He must of been in good enough shape in the second half to go 60 yards untouched. And i have a sneaking suspicion that you would take him on your team as well as all Grainger's other athletes. As far as the Gill kid he is a good football player but you see at Grainger they have so many athletes that they do not need Gill to perform everynight. And if my memory serves me correctly I think that Gill scored as many touchdowns as the entire Cosby team, zero. . Now I am being a little sarcastic here but I will agree that if Grainger was banging on the door and chanting that it is completly wrong and should be handled accordingly. But hearsay does not make it true. Now with all that being said Cosby is a very good football team and I wish them success from here on out. You have some wonderful football players and very good athletes. You also went 2-1 against our region which is pretty good as well. And if we can be undefeated in our own book's I'll make Grainger 7-0 in my book since the scoreboard does not count.
  20. So you are saying that you have better athletes than Grainger? I personally do not think that this is true but I could be wrong. Cosby is a good football team, heck they are perfect so far, but they should not over look Grainger. Grainger (Rutledge) has traditonally been a team that would hit you in the mouth and try to out physical you for four quarters. The quarterback is a great athlete but do not discount some of the other players as well. I'm sure this years match up will be a little closer than last years contest (49-14) as The Grizzlies do not seem to be as good as they were last year. With all that being said I'll take the 3A team at home against the 1A team. I've been wrong before and very well could be this time but i will promise you one thing whether Cosby wins Friday night or not they will know that they played the Grizzlies when they wake up on Saturday morning.
  21. any scores from the later games in this district tournament?
  22. All a regular season championship does is guarantees you the top spot in the tournament. Its a spot in the tourney just like everyone else. In most district tournaments you have to win three or four games anyway so you are going to use the majority of your staff. And if the vols were a one seed they would have been the only number one seed that would not have made the final four. They may have deserved a number one seed but you have to play they hand you are dealt. Humm wonder if the vols would have won the SEC tourney if they would have gotten a one seed. Again proving my point. BUT NO WHERE DID I SAY THAT THE REGULAR SEASON DOES NOT MATTER (just want to be clear about that). All I said is that all the talk about the regular season does not matter. Regular season champions are champions for a reason. All I am trying to say is that ask any coach as to whether they would rather have the regular season championship or the tournament championship and I bet 100% will say the tournament championship.
  23. First off this is not a basketball thread so I did not feel the need to mention it. Again I am not discrediting anything that is accomplished in the regular season. In my opinion the regular season championship is a great accomplishment. Winning the tournament championship is a great accomplishment. The reason I would rather win the district tournament is because it allows you to play on. A great regular season championship does not guarntee you anything. Winning is winning no matter when and where you play. To my knowledge all teams compete in the district tournament. And by the way still standing at the end of the district tournament is a great thing because you still have the chance to be the state champion. Now I am just a lowly fan and I obviously I do not know anything about baseball but where I come from we win in the regular season and we do ok at tournament time as well. Sorry I made you so bitter. I hope the last year of the pioneers has a regular season and district tournament championship in store. Charger I don't know what school you pull for but I wish you the best of luck (unless you are playing the old pioneers).
  24. Rutledge fans don't need a new one. They are usually pretty good in the regular season and in the tournament. Sounds like you have been previously burned by the old pioneers. I was not making an excuse I was just simply stating a fact. Since you need a lesson here you go. First off the Major leagues do not play a tournament in which all teams play in. In high school this is called the district tournment. The regular season only matters for seeding. Once the tournament starts the regular season no longer matters. The number one team in the district may be forced to go home early. Now I am not down playing the regular season games or the regular season champion but if you ask any team or coach I believe they would much rather win the district tournament. Therefore I believe that baseball is a tournament sport. Its not how you start its how you finish. Oh in case you were wondering charger it is my opinon that Rutledge plays to win every game whether its regular seaon or tournament time. I just hope that they are still standing when the district tournament is over.
