  1. No trash talk on this end. DB will come with their shoes laced tight ready to play, no egos here. Should be a fun HS soccer game!!! DB defeated Greeneville tonight 4-1 on Sr night to go 15-0-3. Seen quite a few interesting (not too accurate) comments on the SC tournament (Palmetto Cup) where DB (finished 7th) & Faragut (finished 5th) The real scoop... Geno (25 goals), Mitchem (10 goals), Dell & Meyna (all starters) DID NOT PLAY due to injuries. Clark sat out one game + with a Red card. The teams DB played and their current rankings in SC: DB 1 1 North Myrtle Beach (16-5-1) #9 3A DB 0 0 Bishop England (13-5-2) #1 2A DB 3 1 Dutch Fork (12-10-1) #15 4A DB 1 1 Brookland-Cayce (14-5-1) #7 3A Faragut finished 3-0-1 in the tournament.

    Red Cards

The fewer reds may be related to the severity of the new TSSAA penalty for 2008...Ejection and then a two game suspension from play. Way to penal for HS play. A few suspect calls late in the season may well impact district and regional play. Referees have an obligation to protect players but don't forget, a RED now could destroy some teams down the stretch.
  3. Eastknox...Don't be too hard on yourself - most out there don't know the situation at DB. DB has played several games (when Geno was out) with 11 players and a Coach that were not even starting/playing/around much last year. A few didn't/wouldn't play for DB. There is a new coach, there are approximately 35 new players this year - close to 50 total (includes old players back) on Varsity and JV for the Indians. Coach Calvert can obviously win games too, with his prior success at Mo West and quick success at DB with both boy's & girl's soccer teams. ..."Coach of the Year" ? Geno has scored 16 goals in 11 games (I think)...top soph? Gardner has 10 goals 8 assists...didn't play last season. Colton Clark is 6'5" has around 10 goals as well and has excelled all year. Add one of the top sweepers in Bryce Herlong, Chad Stricklands solid goal play, and Craig Mitchem's hustle, teamwork ...11-0-3. They have been devastated by injuries but have managed to fill the gaps each week...Geno may not play a game or so to rest his knee some, Meyna lost for the season with a broken leg. Hammonds just now back after ACL repair and sadly Jon Metcalf lost in a trajic accident in the fall. This team is what HS soccer is all about...Solid coaching, teamwork, hard work, leadership, friendship and FUN. Know matter how the season finishes, this is likely DB's best ever.
  4. Dobyns-Bennett 6 - Science Hill 3
  5. From NE Tennessee... Dobyns-Bennett continues to show a lot of grit and determination even through a series of devastating injuries. #11 Rankingn and top of NE TN is well earned (10-0-3). Starter Ray Menya was lost for the season with a broken leg in the Greeneville victory. David Geno scored 6 goals in the Jon Metcalf Invitational and shared MVP honors with Josh Pelsor of Powell. Sullivan Central finished third in their division of the Metcalf and should deserve some ranking consideration. Lots of fire power and scoring. Central, Mo West, Science Hill and Sullivan South all capable in Region 1

  10. Wouldn't make too big a fuss about this game. Depends on who plays for DB. They got beat up pretty badly at the Palmetto Cup...broken arm, hurt back, two knees and lots of bruises, etc. Realistically, this is just a pride game for DB - important games after this one. Don't expect them to quit though. Knox teams continue to be the best on the E TN hill (probably in the state) no argument there.
  11. TN schools Farragut and Dobyns-Bennett faired well in the weekend Palmetto Cup in Columbia SC. The rankings are a pretty fair reflection of where the teams are at this early part of the season. Faragut simply did not score enough points to reach the championship semis-bracket of the Cup but was undefeated capturing 5th place. Faragut defeated SC schools #2 Emerald 6-0, Tied #6 Eastside 1-1, defeated #2 Lexington 2-1 and in the final game beat Cardinal Newman 4-1. DB appears to have vaulted itself atop the NE TN teams (region 1) with it's strong showing (7th overall); A 3-1 victory over Dutch Fork (Patrick Cates 2-time HS all-american), 1-1 ties against SC # 5 North Mytle Beach, SC #8 Brookland-Cayce and shut out the #1 ranked SC Bishop England team that finished as the Palmetto Cup runner-up. A 10-0 victory over Clinton, SC on the way. DB's only full starter from 2007 and premier sophomore David Geno did not play against N.Myrtle or Cayce and just 10 minutes of the Bishop game due to a knee injury. He is expected to play this week.
  12. Dobyns-Bennett is truly an unknown this year. In 2007 DB had 24 players...11 seniors. That left 13. The 2008 team is nearly 50 strong with only Geno as a returning starter. Several former players returned after Coach Calvert took over in the fall. A full JV schedule and some quality games to play. FYI - DB has beaten Dutch Fork 3-1, Clinton 10-0, Morristown East 4-0 & TN High 2-1 (close to 20 shots on goal that night)
