  1. I hope the new coach keeps Jason Johnson on staff. I think he has potential to be a good coordinator or head coach one day.
  2. Yeah that is what I was getting at when I said except for West Tenn rural communities like Milan and Dyersburg. Sorry for the confusion. I agree Memphis and West Tenn are different but they usually don't represent this side of the state in the title game. I do not really know the reason the West Tenn teams dont do well but my post I guess was geared more to the reason why Memphis teams dont win. Melrose was a fixture up there for several years in the 90's but if you know anything about Memphis these kids go to whatever the school is the flavor of the month. Memphis might as well have open enrollment because of the amount of illegal transferring that goes on there so those Melrose teams had usually the best players in the city on them. I wish more Memphis teams would make it but it wont happen.
  3. Well every year I go to the championship games I am amazed at how much the middle and east tenn teams' administrations and fans care about football. There are some west tenn teams that do have very good support but I feel there are not that many. I am from Memphis and I was shocked when I saw two city school coaches there this weekend. They were there to probably see Mitchell but they were there. In Memphis administrations hire there friends who may not be the most qualified for the job and there for run programs into the ground. My best friend's cousin is McDaniel from Oakland he has gotten so much help from the admin, parents and fans. You don't see that here in West Tenn unless you are in the rural areas like Milan or Dyersburg. Rural areas it seems like are the only ones who care about football. Also what gets me is the arrogance of most coaches in the city of Memphis who think they no everything and are not willing to learn new things. Very rarely do you see them at clinics or camps. Now I am not saying ALL coaches in the city of Memphis are like that but it a stereotype that the rest of West Tenn and maybe the state has developed. I guess we can just keep using the excuse "at least we play the best basketball." Congratulations Mitchell and Milan for representing West Tenn!!!
  4. I heard that Crutchfield, the former head coach at Cordova who is at Rosa Fort, may be coming back to take over.
  5. I have been coaching for 6 yrs now and I fell into it. Coaching football was the last thing I ever saw my self doing, but once I started i became addicted now I could not see myself not doing it. How I got involved was through scouting my first year. I was at a city school that did not film their games so we did not get any film so I went to see the next week's opponent and brought back the scouting report. I then went to a program for 4 yrs and became a sponge for both sides of the ball. Now I am continuing to work my way up. I try to learn something new every day in practice from the coaches I work with. You can never know enough in my opinion. Lasty develop a passion for it where you can't wait to hit the practice field.
  6. Most of the coaches in Memphis are black and I had a white principal tell me once that he would not hire me because I was white and it was a black school. I do not think it is a problem in this state.
  7. Every year I have watched Maryville in the championship, they have neutralized speed with trick plays. They beat Melrose like that when they had more speed. I am pulling for Hillsboro just because I am ready to see someone else have some glory, but you have to respect what they have accomplished and I think Quarles is outstanding and maybe it was a good thing that dumb ol Fulmer did not hire him cause look where he is at now.
  8. 2-8 record, beat no one in region (only 4 in the region, next year only 3), no the pay is no where near comparable. The team does have some athletes.
  9. He hasn't decided yet, still weighing options.
  10. I am pulling for White Station since I live in Memphis. They run my kind of offense, the spread. They take what the defense gives, some nights they may throw all over the yard or run it. They have a stout defense so I think what it will come down to will be if the Rebels defense can slow down the Spartans offense. I expect a very close game.
  11. Yeah I knew it was around then. My senior year was the year we beat Galloway and Calico.
  12. I wasn't saying that the game wasn't a big deal because it always has been. I have always thought it kinda funny that as soon as Munford went down and Millington starting getting consistently good those M and M bowl banners went up, but if it is a big deal now because of it being the first game of the season I will take you at your word. Just didn't know why it all of the sudden (well since it has been called the M and M bowl) it became huge, but you cleared it up for me.
  13. Barry Brunetti should win Mr. Football. A state Championship, record tying 4 td passes, and MVP.

    BA vs MUS

Like I said in the other thread about Mr Football. Barry Brunetti should be the winner. Evidently the best player on the field. Already has the ring just needs the Mr Football trophy now.
  15. Like I have always said I wish they would have has this M and M bowl when I played at Munford because it was a lot more even. It seems now that Munford is down this game is a very big deal to Millington. The money does support the two programs so I am all for that. And I mean down as in classification not record.
  16. The head coach, wr, te, lb (defensive coordinator) coaches left to pursue other opportunities. The d-line and db coach retired from coaching. The RB coach who was also the head baseball coach got a federal law enforcement job. There are about 15 seniors coming back next year. Offensively we ran the pistol offense that Nevada runs and the 3-3-5 defensively and as of right now there are no coaches on the staff since I am more than likely gonna take another position that was offered to me, just have to do some formality stuff.
  17. Wayne Randall isn't the only coach in the city that does'nt swap tape. There are a number of coaches that won't swap tape. Some of them very good coaches, so I would say 99% is a pretty big number. When I was at Craigmont a couple of years ago out of 10 games we got film maybe 4 or 5 games I think. I am at a private school now and there was a time last year playing in the big school division we didn't get tape because the coach never would return our calls or emails.
  18. I think they should have given him at least another year or so. He came in and totally changed their offensive mindset from the wing t. I know that doesn't make that much difference because coaches have come in and changed schemes before and been successful (Blade at Hillsboro), but the fans got restless when it wasn't working. I have heard some fans say that they want a wing t coach to come back in because it works. He walked into a tough situation where he was going to need immediate success and he didn't so.
  19. I think so. I do not think a head coach will apply for it. More than likely a position coach or coordinator. I was thinking about going to the all star game since our quarterback is playing in it, but my wife has already made plans for us so I do not know.
  20. I would like to see Dee Alsbrook get the job. He would bring an exciting offense in to get players back out there. Fan support has never been a problem. The facilities are a lot nicer than when I played there and it is just a good environment. Seems like they always have good kids just hope they get back to being good again. I like Randall yeah some of the things he did were a little unorthodox but he has always been nice to me when I would see him. I am sure he will land somewhere.
  21. What are some names you think would want the job? I had heard earlier that Randall was the front runner, but more than likely not the case anymore.
  22. He was there for 7 yrs. No I am no where near ready and I still have nine classes left before I will have my degree. I have heard there has been a lot of interest so far so I am excited. Losing is not very fun, but I look forward to coming in to coach here everyday because of the atmosphere and kids. I should be teaching here next yr. In a year or two I am gonna look for a coordinator's position and then for a head coaching job. I would say in about 6 to 7 yrs I will be ready.
