    DEAD PERIOD

You are correct, the coach can not mandate a player play or not play during the dead period. They can have no contact and the facilities are closed. However, yes the player can keep on playing. The purpose of the rule is to give HS players a break from mandatory weight room workouts and practice. Players need some time off but if they are playing summer sports, yes they can continue. A parent of a player can coach the team during the dead period or anyone else, just not HS coach. Anyone having questions ought to call Gene Menese or Bernard Childress at TSSAA or the questions/answers on their website will answer just about any question you might have. The best way to control this rule if it gets abused, is to report the abuse. Give the players a couple weeks off, they have played all year long, it's really not a bad rule.
  2. Thursday-26th is correct. The association confirmed that today. Really hope Devon gets to play, she's had a great career and the All-Star game will be great but you are right, it hurts travel players.

    DEAD PERIOD

There is a BIG difference between OPEN FACILITIES & DEAD PERIOD. For baseball, the week before/of July 4th, is DEAD PERIOD. No coach can have contact with players during this time. Like the definition reported said, TRYOUTS can only be held in early February according to the Sports Calendar. But coaches can coach baseball teams during the summer, EXCEPT during the dead period, then either they can not play/practice or someone else has to do it for them. Don't know why you say basketball coaches can't coach AAU, they've been doing that for years. You just have to abide by the sports calendar the TSSAA puts out. Likewise, OPEN FACILITIES means a coach can have the facilities open for their athletes to work-out but cannot be coached by the coaches, he can only observe. Why do rules get broken? People don't interpret the rules differently, some just chose to ignore the rules and then say they didn't understand them. They seem to understand the rules during the coaches meeting but I guess they have loss of memory back at home with the doors closed.
  4. Yea, I heard someone tell me at state tourney too. Went back and looked at clues MKIA gave out, it makes sense now. However, been great year & gave us all something to talk about. I'll see you soon with your mask on & off, probably next week /thumb[1].gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":thumb:" border="0" alt="thumb[1].gif" />
  5. In the past, they have had a player from Mid TN to play for the Chatt team, but historically, this game IS CHATT area vs N Georgia. Couldn't get Gerogia to play if they called it Chattanooga! But the Tennessee -Kentucky All-Star game isn't called the Mid Tennessee vs Kentucky All-Star game either. Wouldn't it be great if we could just play the Tennessee vs Tennessee All-Star game which means (Mid TN vs Chatt)?
  6. Congratulations to Coach Beasley & the rest of the girls.
  7. Congratulations to both Wilson Central & Dickson Co Cougers. But especially to the Cougers who deserve some great things in their future. Shane & Bert are great with the girls and are 2 terrific coaches. Good luck the rest of the way.
  8. Truthfully, I though MJ invented this type of tourney several years ago when we used to go to their tourney. They would somehow put 8 of top 10 teams in tournament in top bracket and put themselves in the bottom. However, they would also give themselves double byes so that they only had to play 1 game to get to finals. Never thought Goodpasture would ever go back. Don't think the same thing goes on from now since Coach Ped. has arrived, but MJ did it as well as anyone in days gone bye. Might be where SD picked it up. Congratulations to both MJ & CC for getting to finals. But the BIG GAME has yet to be played. Coach Ped. & Coach Terry do a great job- See ya in the boro!
  9. I know that FC's baseball team's bus burned up yesterday. Just heard on the news that the Bus caring Columbia softball team had a wreck today & had some injuries. Heard Coach White might have been hurt and maybe some of the girls. Hope someone can give us some more information and hopefully, no one was hurt seriously. Best wishes to all of Columbia Ladies and Coach White. We are thinking of you!!!
  10. Yes, randy king is a great coach. I played for him and everyone has the great respect for him. There must be a reason coaches are leaving ruterford county but it can't be the teaching responsiblities. I understand mostly, all they have to do is coach, teaching position is not what they are hired for.

    Who's On Fire!

Farragut is always strong. I watched them play several games last year when I was in school up on the Hill, they are very competitive and you have to bring your A GAME if you expect to play with them.
  12. I'm Sure Coach Henry will be getting some good advice out there. This should be a great job for this Williamson county school
