  2. TCA 5 Lexington 1 There were actually 2 teams in 16, but one of them didn't want to make the trip to play. I think they do need to move some things around.

  6. CONGRATS PAGE!!!! If you want to slam coaches about scores, please go over to the other thread. It has about fizzled out, anyway. I know Coach Wade, and he is a very classy guy, if you ask me. And his girls are top knotch, and play with great sportsmanship. We scrimmaged them in the pre-season, and they earned our respect! I can't wait for them to come back next year!
  7. How about going back and looking before you leap Chaotic. I have not posted in this thread until today.
  8. Well, I guess I am ready to take a bashing.....With only 13 players, I don't have much to work with. We played JCM last night, and I started my defense as forwards, my two leading scorers on the bench, and everyone else somewhere they are not used to playing. We were up 6-0 at half. 2 of them by one of my So. defenders who has never been past the center circle. Ever. (It is going to be hard to put her back on D now, too.) Anyway, Ref met with other coach and I at half, and wanted to know if we wanted to shorten game, set a max amount of goals, or anything. She said "absolutley not!" I told the ref that after every goal, I was going to pull a player, but she heard me and said I better not. So I said that I would set some pretty stiff rules for my team to be able to take a shot. She told me to keep bringing it no matter what. I started out with a "got to make 4, 1 touch passes, and then shots are from outside the 18" rule, but it was 8-0 by 60 minutes. So then it was 6 passes, and balls had to go on our half of the field before they could advance. Still shots outside the 18. It was 10-0 with 7 minutes left. I told my girls no more shots, and to play possession. Which aggrevated the other team, and they were starting to get mad and were telling my team to keep bringing it, they were not done. I told them that the only way we could score was if there were 8 passes, and the ball had to be scored by header or volley. Well, there was a handled ball that should have been a red, but I was glad he didn't pull it, and we were awarded a PK. I pulled up a Sr. defender who has never scored a goal in her 10 years of playing soccer. She made it, and mom was happy. The other team was not down, they actually showed great sportsmanship and class, as did the coach after the game. This was the same score we had last year, but they had 2 own goals. It was a district game, and I am very happy with the way my team conducted themselves during and after the game. I think I am going to enforce the passing rules on our Crockett County game on Tuesday, just because they couldn't believe they were doing it so well. Granted, we were playing a less skilled team, but we are middle of the road here in West Tn. We have been on the receiving end of 12-0, 13-0 for so many years, it would make your head spin. I guess you have to either do it, or get it done to you as a coach, to fully understand all the factors that are present. All the moms and dads, will never know how it feels. They can give you all the feedback, thrashing, and ridicule in the world, but we as coaches are always going to take it on the chin.
  9. BENCH SHELTERS, PLEASE!!! This is not baseball. Unless they are underground, then I will let you slide.....
  10. Anyone watch the 3 great women college games on ESPN 2 last night? Now that Dish took away my FSC, I am thankful that they keep showing these on Sunday!
  11. That is it! I am going to have to quit coaching, so I can start playing again. I think I can scrounge up enough to put together a West Side Huffers and Puffers team. Sounds like too much fun!
  12. Lexington 0 Waverly Central 1 Hard fought loss. Goal was early in the first half, and only having 13 players is starting to hurt us. Things will be better next week!
  13. Very Good Canes! That is one of the most TRUE statements I have seen on here.
  14. I shouldn't have said "kill"
  15. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=14ynIJLR ... re=popular Keepers, can't live with them, can't kill them. I know this isn't the right place, but this is where the action is.
  16. "schsdad02"My daughter is also a grade 8 referee and knows the rules of the game very well. Obviously she has been involved in some lopsided games this season and her point of view is that the refs don't call dangerous slide tackles (nor any foul nor handled ball) against a team that is obviously outmatched. In several games this season, late slide tackles (some very late) have not been called or carded (at least card them). The refs have got to keep the players' safety in mind, no matter what the score. Unfortunately too many look the other way when the outmatched team is the offender." THIS IS NOT AMERICAN HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL! There is no mercy rule. Clock never stops running no matter the score. Ref's should not let that hand ball, or slide tackle go just because it will not change the outcome of the game. These are safety issues, and LAWS OF THE GAME. They MUST be followed. Ref's are to be blades of grass on the field. They are not for or against either team. I have never seen a ref, in my 30+ years of playing/coaching, let something dangerous go because they felt sorry for the team getting stomped. I have seen them hold subs at the half line due to coaches fussing too much about this and that.
  17. No he was correct. Burn Burner is the new term. It is more intense, right MVM?
  18. The first game, was very sloppy. It reminded me a lot of a HS team that had a few club players, and a lot of rec players, and your football and basketball athletes to complete the roster. It didn't get too chippy, but there was a lot of tension on the field. From the reaction of both coaches, it must have been a down day for both teams. With all the rain over the last few weeks, both teams had not played a game in a while. The second game was great! Both teams, even though it was a very lopsided game (5-1) were riddled with skill and discipline. They were more physical, and very vocal, but overall it was a great game to work. I wouldn't compare the game to a HS one. It was much faster to me. As an official, there was much more going on than just soccer, if you know what I mean.
  19. Geez Coach.. Maybe I should take your advice and quit TSSAA before I really get started. LOL .. I am not advising you of anything. If you are about to take the officials exam, by all means, go ahead. We need all we can get. Or if you are already one, press on my friend! You are a hero in my book. We can't play without you. On another note, I called a couple D2 U17 State League matches yesterday, and there is a reason the 3 man system is used. There is no way 2 could keep up with the speed of play. The fitness level of officials is becoming more and more a factor of who gets assigned in our area. For club matches, that is.
  20. I hope everyone has a great weekend! Be safe! I will have my stripes on all day Saturday and Sunday doing some rec and club matches. I will pull a card in a second on a bad slide!
  21. You know there will be slides! And Flip Throw in's! I love SOCCER!
