  1. I feel your pain. My check was 3 figures short of 6! I can share. You can even stay in my guest house. I mean extra bedroom. That will save you on lodging. And we are getting Fox Soccer Channel for free on DishNetwork this month, and you can watch all you want.
  2. Slide tackle seminar at the City of Lexington Soccer Complex field #4, this Saturday night, 8pm. ( I started it late so Big G can have plenty of time to get here. He and I will be your instructors) Food and beverages available in the comp room above the concession stand. Coaches, Players, Parents, and Officials all welcome! Cost is $125. (That is my ER Copay) Disclaimer: This is a joke by the way. Even though bad tackles are not a joke, nor are injuries resulting in executing, or receiving a bad tackle. I was just bored, and this topic seems to be the most interesting on the board right now. I can hear it now..... "Oh...That coach Mike from Lexington....What a bad person....He jokes about slide tackling and kids getting hurt." LIGHTEN UP PEOPLE!! IT'S FRIDAY!
  3. If that is the case then TSSAA needs to recruit more referees.quote] I don't think the TSSAA has a choice in the matter of how many refs there are. With the way they get ragged on all the time, they are dropping off every year. I guess they will just start charging more to us, to sweeten the pot a little. I know one of the best officials in the state, and he quit doing HS because he gave a Red Card in a state match to a deserving player. He got a bad wrap in the local rag, and decided to stick with USSF matches. I don't blame him. That is why I coach HS, and ref everything but......
  4. If you have a problem with 2 officials, you better stay where you are. We have had 2 games this year with only 1 official. They cost $60 each. It is not that we don't care, or can't afford the extra one, or even both. There are not that many out there anymore. Especially when most soccer games are scheduled on Tuesdays, and Thursdays. I have no problem getting them for Monday and Wednesday games. But face the facts. Nobody wants a game on Monday. Everyone has been laying around all weekend. No focus. And Wednesdays? Better watch out! I know that during district tournament play, they usually use a 3 man crew during the semi's and the final.
  5. I don't have time to take a 1-2 hr course on how to do something I already know how to teach. I would like the a badge though! Deputy Mike to the scene of the crime! I can't speak for TSSAA ref's, but I, as a grade 8 USSF, have been certified on what is not good tackling. I don't know what kind of training they have to go through. I ref everything from rec to state league games. I have many games under my belt. I have worked with some of the best crews in the area. I see a huge difference between TSSAA and FIFA. I just learn to cope with it. I also understand the need for the NHSF. I just wish that they could get rid of some of the garbage that has cluttered the rule book. This is why I decided to get my ref cert. To learn more about the game. From a different view. And if you ask the guys who call my HS games, they know that I only argue a little bit now days. It sure wasn't for the BIG BUCKS!
  6. I think the only way to fix this is for us coaches to properly teach how and how not to slide, and when and when not to slide. I have done this for years. It is a learning process. Once it is honed, it is a very valuable skill. In the "Spirit of the Game", we can not take this out of it. If we do, then what is next? Heading? Why stop there? What about nutmegs? One of my girls had that happen to her last week, and the 20+ boys on the sideline that were supporting the other team went nuts. I think she would rather have been taken out with a slide. But seriously, Do like G said and track the yellow cards. It will take care of itself.
  7. I hope you get an answer. We are thinking of doing this as well.
  8. Lexington 2 North Side 0 Thanks so much to my team for pulling together to make this game happen. We only have 14 roster members. One injured, one who's grandmother passed this week, and one who had to go to a travel softball showcase to get seen by some colleges. 8 am on Thursday, I had only 11. They hit up all of their friends, and found the only eligible basketball player at LHS that had just completed her physical and who wasn't on the vollyball team! Couple of the girls rounded up some shinguards and cleats, went to her house, and showed her some basics. All she had to do was sit on the bench, and go in to give a few girls a breather every time one gassed out. Well, she ended up being such an athlete, she played 70% of the game, and almost scored. I hope she stays on the team. Also a big thanks to our AD, for making sure she got added to the TSSAA site before the game started. And for staying the entire game. And for bringing the check for the ref.
  9. Well......I don't know about the knife thing.....But sort of like going to the snack cabinet and saying you are going to eat 5 Oreo cookies. 5 becomes 6, etc.....That is not as gruesome. Well to me.
  10. I wish I could pull a few 8th graders. I have 1 injured, one at a travel softball scrimmage against some college teams, and one had a relative pass away. I have 11 girls tonight. I wish I could scrounge up at least a basketball player or 2.
  11. Not much fun for anyone, IMO. We have been on the loosing end of this several times over the last 8 years. 3 weeks ago, at a jamboree, during a 40 minute game, I saw this exact score. It upset many people. The coach was very new, just out of college. I don't think he really knew what happened until it was too late. Now last season, we did have an 11-0 win, but 3 or 4 goals were "own". We settled down at 7. It does happen.
  12. Okay all, how many of you charge admission to your home games? How much? And, do you enforce it? I mean, if there is a group of students, or fans that will not pay, but seem to hang around and watch anyway, do you run them off? I only ask because we have just completed our complex, and are trying to get our ducks in a row. It is not at the school, so it is hard to make people pay. There are 4 fields together and tons of people there every night. For the last 6-7 years, we have been on an old baseball field that was fenced in. If they didn't want to pay, they just stood/sat outside the fence and watched. Last year, we tried to make them pay, but ended up stirring up some nests, and it wasn't good. Can the Ref's just work for free from now on? Then we will just not worry about it anymore.
  13. Exactly....You have to be very careful where you place this monitor. Obviously, if you leave it in your vehicle, it will register off the charts. And, if you leave it out in the direct sunlight on any hot surface, it is not very accurate. With mine, I have to make sure that it is not touching anything that could change. I am about to get one of those ones in the link above. That is what the county AD recommended after I had already purchased one. I am going to have the rec league mount the one I got at the park by the concession stand, so everyone can get to it. And buy the SkyScan one.
  14. And quite possibly prevent an unfortunate heat stroke or possible death of a player, I think that would be far worse than the TSSAA on your back. That pretty much goes without saying. I have mine at every practice. Yesterday was the only day in the last 2 weeks it even came on. The one I got doesn't register the heat index unless it gets hot enough to start to worry about. It has basically been at thermometer.
  15. I just wish I could get enough for a Varsity team! I don't know what is going on in my community.....I have no freshman at all! I think that XBOX is winning over sports around me.
  16. It shows the real temp, and the heat index. Which is usually a lot hotter than what is really is. So if it is 97 outside, but the heat index is 105, you have to suspend outside activities and move indoors. It also has standards you have to follow concerning breaks and water. Here is the link... http://www.tssaa.org/Handbook/heatpolicy.htm Anyone who attended a rules meeting should have gotten this drilled in.
  17. I had a suprise visit by our AD Wednesday during our rainy practice. It was 85 and wet. He asked if I had my heat index monitor with me. I did, and all was good. Just reminding you all to make sure you have it with you at all times. If all of us coaches keep this under control, it will keep the T$$AA off our backs. Have a great season! MC
  18. G, Is this a one time thing, or do they do it across the state?
  19. That is the plan Canes. I just got a hold of a secret weapon! And he has a long yellow and black vehical and said he would only charge me for fuel! So I am pressing the booster club to get out there and do that car wash!
  20. I really don't like all the changes that happened to our district. I am so new at this, it really caught me off guard. We ended up losing two schools to D2(USJ, JCS) and one school dropped down(North Side). All schools that we actually started to compete with this year. We picked up some really good schools, though. Some that we play anyway because they are close, are now in our district. It is really hard for us to get games outside our group now. It will be interesting to see what happens here in West Tn. The comment about travel is a big one. I was told last year by the powers that be to keep my games close, due to fuel prices.
  21. Please add new school South Gibson, and also Decatur Co. Riverside to Distict 15 A-AA. South Gibson is fielding a team, and the AD at DCR doesn't know the future of the soccer program there. I hope it has not been killed.
