  4. Great game tonight boys! I wish it could have gone the other way, though. Thanks again to Coach Anthony for letting us come play at your place. I know that you all really wanted to come to our field, though. Good luck in the rest of the tournament. See you next year! Coach Mike
  5. Uh oh, I guess I may be in trouble for watching one of my girls in that tournament last weekend. I bet that is just fancy wording. I don't think they can keep you from enjoying a game.

  8. WHAT A TRIP! I got called to ref at the Shootout in the West this past weekend. Sunday morning, as I get my assingments, who do I get the pleasure of working with?? The ref that his whole thread is about. I tell you what....It was a joy to be an AR for this chap! I was with him all morning, and had a great experience. I will tell you another thing that I realized. The reason that these ref's get tortured all the time is because of all these extra things that get thrown at them at the HS level. If you go by the LAWS OF THE GAME, things seem to run smooth. When you take them, and add TSSAA, and NFHS, in there......well, you know what happens. The book gets 4 times thicker.
  9. So we are up 5-0 at the half. Second half, I leave my defense, and put in my subs. In particular, a disabled kid that I have known for 12 years. He has played soccer since he was 5. He has heart, and comes to every practice. He is dedicated, and he does what I tell him. He is not fast, and not skilled at the game as the rest of his peers. I treat him like all the other players, though. No special treatment, so to speak. And he and his parents know that I play him every chance I get. Which this season, hasn't been much. He plays forward, because all he can do is blast toe balls. So, he gives it his all for about 10 good minutes. I pull him to get hydrated. All of a sudden, I see the coach from the other team, and one of his seniors walking down the sideline towards me. I have no idea what they are doing. They get real close and ask to speak to me. The captain tells me that if we put #10 back in towards the end of the game, they will let him get a through ball, and their keeper will make a very acrobatic try for it, but miss. Well, last year this kid scored 2 goals. They were PK's, and he made them on his own. He is a big kid, and you don't want to be standing too close when he kicks. Well, I tell them that is a nice gesture and we will see what happens the rest of the game. Well, I put him in with about 10 minutes left, and before we can get set up to make the pass to him, he steals the ball from one of his team mates, stumbles through the defense, and sticks one in the corner. There was absolutely no help from anyone on that. I did get onto him for running over his own player to get a ball, but he expected that from me as a coach, anyway. After the game two of the seniors from the other team come over to me and my wife about how great our team looked. We tied this particular team last season. They just wanted to tell me how much we had improved since last year. I don't get suprised very often. This kind of sportsmanship is what I would like to see out of all of my kids.
  10. If the refs were doing what they were taught, when the brawl began, they should have just stood back and started writing down player numbers. The coaches should have been the ones to control the players.
  11. I like that. Very creative. Hey, tell your boy to get a hold of me. We will be having our very first Alumni game at the end of the season. We have to wait for the tournaments to be done, first. I believe that the interest is high for this game. I think a lot of schools do it. We will be one of them from now on. Trying to start some TRADITION! Thanks for the kind words. Coach Mike
  12. Tied 2-2 according to Eurosport.
  13. Wow, from an interesting story, to rotten fruit.
  14. Well said Cincyred! /thumb[1].gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":thumb:" border="0" alt="thumb[1].gif" />
  15. Yeah, you know who it was. We had him twice at the Lions cup tourney, but he wasn't the center, so I didn't get to hear it before.
  16. I had something very intersting happen when I was being addressed by the ref with the other coach, and our team captains last night. All the usual stuff went down, and then the ref proceeded with this ditty. Coaches...you coach. Since that is what you do good. Players.....you play. Since that is what you do good. And I will ref, since that is what I THINK I DO GOOD. Of course I know him, so I chuckled a bit. As did everyone. Then he told us that he would be alone, with no AR's, and not to gripe about too much. He said, sometimes he will make a call, and the players will throw a fit. Or the coaches will throw a fit. It happens all the time. And basically what he says, goes. So give him a break. He continued.. Sometimes, I will see a player standing in a certain place, or not moving to where he should, and I think to myself..What is he doing?? Is he crazy? What was the coach thinking putting him in there??!!?? But he will never yell at the coach during the game and question his tactics. He won't stop the game and tell the player how he should have made an overlapping run, or he should have dropped the ball, because there was an open player right behind him. Since he wouldn't be doing that, he would appreciate if we didn't tell him how to do his job. I just thought that it interesting. I have never heard anything like that before a game. I am a certified ref myself, and I think about telling players and coaches stuff all the time. But I don't GO TIGERS!
  17. Lexington High School is looking for a tournament for the Fall 2009 Women's season. Anything out there? Also, we will have our new complex in Lexington done by Summer's end. It has 4 full size lighted fields, with 1 being a premier field. Full facilities, to boot. We are looking to have our own tournament in 2010, if anyone is interested.
  18. ATTENTION ALL READING THIS POST!!! I am the coach at Lexington High School. I have never ever told one of my players to TAKE SOMEONE OUT EVER! Never have, never will. I would really like to talk to the young man that said that. I have already talked to my player that the supposed conversation took place with. This stuns me that someone would say something like this. Coach Mike
  19. Lexington v Scotts Hill postponed until Mar. 23rd
  20. Yes, the tag is a pain. I had several of my players rip the tag off, and save it. I don't know if that is acceptable, so I told them if I get a card, they will be doing the beep test for a week. Most went and got new shinguards. Our ref's in West Tennessee are pretty good, so we should be alright.
  21. TSSAA says shinguards have to be NOCSAE approved.(National Operating Committee on Standards for Athletic Equipment) I understand that when you tell the ref before the game that your players are properly equipped and dressed, that you are giving your word that they have these approved shinguards on. They will not be checking the tags. But you could get yourself a card if it becomes known that a player does not have them on. As for the cast, as long as it is padded, then wrapped (taped), they should be able to play. I would have a copy of the player's doctor release record with you. I was asked for it by a ref last season. If you have a certified sports trainer, they will probably know how to wrap it best. There just can't be any hard surface of the cast exposed. I had one of my starters in a cast for most of the season last year. He used 1/4" foam wrapped once around, and then cloth tape over that. We tried the bubble wrap, but it made him sweat really bad. No problems whatsoever as long as you make sure the ref knows before the game. I sort of made it look like I was asking permission, and I think they liked that. Hope this helps.
