  1. This is a totally inappropriate post. ^^^ Please refrain from using this tragedy to support your agenda. Thank you. May God bless the students, teachers, and staff at Central high school during this tough time.
  2. Today is Monday. The Game is Friday. Let the sandbagging begin! /rolleyes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="rolleyes.gif" />
  3. Kings Academy beat KSD. Halls shut out Fulton. Hardin Valley scored a TD and won. Central shut out Carter, but did it on essentially two plays. Grace beat Gibbs. ****** Halls was the best team of the night; hands down. The first drive was just like the drive against CAK. Every play went for 8 or more yards and Halls looked like a machine running the ball. Central has a nice RB.
  4. It shouldn't take a novel to state the obvious. Any CAK player fans or coach who thinks CAK took Halls to the woodshed is fooling themself. On the first drive of the game, Halls demonstrated that CAK could do NOTHING to stop our run game. Halls used the scrimmage to test out the passing game a little. Tonight we dominated Fulton on both sides of the ball in the Jamboree and held them scoreless. CAK is a good 2A team, that is all.
  5. As I said before, CAK is a fine 2A team, but a full game would have gotten a similar 40 something to 20 something result. That gives plenty of credit where it's due, IMHO. Do you honestly think that #75 aside, that CAK would not have been severly penalized, suffered multiple sacks, and been picked off several times in a real game? If not, I question your objectivity. Do you doubt those couple of dink and dunk drives would have been hampered by penalties that were completely absent in the scrimmage? Did CAK play penalty free ball in 2007? I also agree with you, if #75 is a freshman, you have a lot to look forward to, if he can stop blocking in the back. Congrats again on a fine scrimmage CAK fans. You helped expose our temporary weakness, pass defense. It'll be fixed in time for when games count, thanks to the scrimmage. What will CAK need to fix in your opinion? I think you know what I think they need to do to compete.
  6. Scrimmages are not games; as such, it's difficult to tell what would have happened had it been a real game, but I'll make a few pluasible predictions. First off, let me complment the CAK players, coaches, and fans on their hospitality, sportsmanship, and level of play. They will compete, and compete well, in 2A. No offense but... 1. In a game, there would not have been a scenario wherby guys in blue jerseys could not be hit, but could turn right around and come in on defense and tackle leading with their helmet. Go back and watch the film and check out the little CAK D-Back/QB if you doubt me. 2. In a game, there would have been at least 1 flag thrown, there were NONE thrown in the entire scrimmage. Again go back and watch the film and watch CAK's line locking feet and grabbing jerseys. In fact watch #75 routinely blocking our DEs in the back all game long and watch the refs telling him about it after EVERY play, and then watch the CAK coaches chewing him out on the sidelines for doing it EVERY play. That nifty little passing game, while fairly effective, would not have been as consistent if penalties were being called on EVERY play. CAK would have had over 100 yards in penalties in that scrimmage. They'd better fix their little holding problem before next week or they'll never complete a drive and wonder why? The Halls line didn't hold; they didn't need to; they blew the CAK defensive line off the ball on virtually every play. If I had a dollar for every time #75 blocked in the back, I could feed my whole family at Sonic; and I have a LARGE family. I'll bet our #86, Alex Starrett, has brusises all over his back today? /blink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="blink.gif" /> 3. In an actual game, Halls would have pounded the ball down CAKs throat until their "1's" were done and then the depth of the Red Devils would have made even further mince-meat out of CAK as evidenced by the severe drop-off in talent at the next level with these two teams. TheCAK QB would have taken a pounding in the half-dozen or more sacks that were whistled off. Without the holding they got away with, he may have been sacked a dozen or more times in a game? Also, a couple of those sacks would have been SACK/INTs resulting in a change of posession that the scrimmage did not allow because of the "blue-jersey/ whistle" thing. Like I said, nice scrimmage, and perfect to expose our need to improve our pass defense but in an actual game, Halls would have taken it by 3-4 touchdowns, easy. CAK would have scored, but the end result would not have been pretty. Our defensive backs haven't had much of a passing offense to test them in previous scrimmages or in practices. That was the first passing offense we've seen since last Fall counting our own in practices. I expect we'll give Fulton all they can handle tomorrow night in the jamboree. All that said, we need to get our timing down on our passing game and work through the recievers who are out with injury and we need to bump the opposing teams recivers at the line of scrimmage as our d-backs are physical and fast enough to play man on man defense, but for some strange reaosn we give opposing recievers too big a cushion. Halls is a physical team and any reciever who wants to catch the ball needs to know he's gonna be hit when he plays Halls. This defense can be REALLY good, but need to play just a tad meaner.
  7. Yes, I meant Tyler Turner. When he starts to click, I think the rest of the offense will follow. Gresham was looking GREAT in practices, on both sides of the ball. He and Chad Bright are both fast and sure-handed. Even with a cast, Gresham should prove to be solid at Corner. This week should tell us all we need to know. These young men have worked hard. I think it will pay off.
  8. Injuries, unfortunately, are part of football. I'm not so sure we've suffered any more than any other contender in our conference. I do hate that Zabowski may be out for the season, but I think our real threats at reciever are still doing just fine. That said, this is a running team and when the run blocking is on, we will gain yards routinely, even against Maryville. The key in that game will be ball control. While we still need a few to continue to "step up", IMO, several players have stepped up already. O'Laughlin, Gresham, Bright, Cottrell and, of course, Leonard. When Taylor gets in his groove at QB, the entire "O" should click. The defense looks pretty darn good to me.
  9. "+"s Pork barbeque in the concession stand James O'Laughlin Defense (Line, LBs, and Secondary) "-"s Taking wayyyyyyyyyyyyy too long to throw the ball Open recievers with no pass being thrown Fumbles
  10. I did not go to the scrimmage but from what I've been told, most of the mistakes were mental errors and NOT the result of kids being out of shape, too weak, or too slow. Thank goodness! I will be at practice today and the scrimmage tomorrow against Catholic. I have a feeling the problems will be fixed in time to give Maryville a run for their money and I'm especially glad we got the wake up call when we did. IMO, DB manhandling us last Friday didn't mean much more than our shutting them out in the spring. /blink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="blink.gif" />
  11. #1 - They beat you with kids from your own school district?
  12. Taylor seemed to handle it well but I heard it is not good news. I have him in my prayers. I got to practice late but folks told me the first day in pads looked a little sloppy. > to be expected IMO.
  13. I just wanted to express a hearty pre-game hello, on behalf of Halls fans, to Dobbins Bennett fans. We enjoyed the class your players and fans displayed in the Spring here in Halls and look forward to a visit at your place next Friday. I expect DB will give us an even better fight this time around as I know there were a handfiull of starters missing from your team in the Spring. I like the Red Devils scrimmages that are lined up and believe they will have us prepared to make a run at Maryville next month, in our season opener. I hear you guys have an awesome tailback that we did not see in the Spring?
  14. lol I'm not getting personal. If you choose that route, that's up to you. My toughness is my business and if you think my CAPS LOCK has anything to do with that, all I can say is... ...how did you even imagine that unless perhaps it's a thought you entertain when posting? My CAPS LOCK was simply used to make a point on this MB, that is all. You're entitled to your opinion about the potential outcome of the game, but since they haven't played it yet, I'd say your opinion is about as valid as anyone elses on here. In the meantime, I'll continue to express mine. Halls 28 Maryville 21 "Gentlemen, this is a football". -=Vince Lombardi=- Corney? Perhaps. But it works.
  15. Caleb Leonard was 1st team all state last year in 4A as a Junior. He should dominate this fall. He and his father have not been doing any self-promoting, but he is still getting looks. Caleb Leonard was at Auburn last weekened and outran some rivals 4 star guys.
  16. we had a couple of tough ones last year at RB, the "?" is, who will step up and bring it this year. I think Ryan Pixley, Dorian Cotrell, and Caleb Leonard play tough. I can think of another who plays mean but names aren't all that important. What is important is that the entire team steps up and gets an "attitude". /thumb[1].gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":thumb:" border="0" alt="thumb[1].gif" />
  17. we're getting better in the weightroom, but we may not have the team speed to keep up with the thoroughbreds at Maryville?
  18. or go join or create one where WHAT YOU WANT TO DISCUSS ACTUALLY MATCHES THE TOPIC OF THE THREAD /blink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="blink.gif" /> for the record, this is NOT a FORUM, but a THREAD within a FORUM
  19. Halls was the last regional team to do it and took Maryville to a 38-30 game in Maryville last year without the starting QB the entire 2nd half Halls returns more starters than Maryville and the game is in Halls 4 weeks from tonight most folks without a time machine or crysytal ball think this will be the best early season game in east tennessee this game could go either way IMO, the team who works the hardest for the next 4 weeks walks away victorious
  20. I thought the defense was YEOMAN last year. I didn't see it in previous years. This year it will be GOOD! I think we will have more depth than in '07 on both sides of the ball. My only concern is we may still have a few too many guys who play both ways? Time will tell. August 22nd can't come soon enough IMO.
  21. Halls returns more > large senior class > depth The game is in Halls The Halls defense will be their strength All dynastys eventually end and the Halls program is definately on the upswing with coach Julian
  22. That was the buzz about a month ago... ...effective the 2009 season. Not a "probabilty", but a strong possibility.
  23. Great perspective. I'll stick my neck out and say... Halls 28 Maryville 21
