  1. Centennial 35; Warren County 7 (End of 3rd Quarter)
  2. Centennial 35 - Warren County 0; 8:00 minutes to go in the 3rd Quarter.
  3. Pioneer95: Keep posting! You make Warren County look like mental giants with each post!
  4. Pioneer95: Your posts are disgraceful and they discredit the Pioneer image. What does "95" represent? If it is the year you graduated, then you should certainly keep your mouth shut regarding Warren County football. Centennial is probably a slight favorite in this game. Warren County benefited from turnovers last year, and the Pioneer defense played their best game of the year against the Cougars. I don't expect Centennial to beat themselves again this year. Warren County will have to score points to win this game, and scoring will be a problem for the Pioneers. As for any comments about past coaches in Warren County, it is the players people. Coach Barnes is a good man, but Warren County won more games when they had players such as Jeff Womack, Glen Powers, Jerry Lusk, etc.

    Franklin

Why is Coach Callicott leaving Franklin? I thought he was named Def Coord for the football team in the spring. Did he step down voluntarily as baseball coach?
  6. A little slow on this one: the player was simply not allowed to be in the picture? He was not cut from the team? How did I get the impression that the player was cut from the team?
  7. A team in Middle Tennessee did not hit last week -- the first week in pads. Anyone heard of another team in Tennessee not hitting in pads last week? Any thoughts on the pros and cons of not hitting during the first week? BTW, the team was Warren County. [Edited by StanTrott on 8-8-02 9:43P]
  8. Does a coach need discipline? Yes...without question. Does a player need the right socks? Absolutely. Imagine what would happen if Casey Clausen wore the wrong socks! Do you cut a player for wearing the wrong pair of socks on picture day? Never heard of any coach doing this before the Oak Ridge story was posted. Must be other issues with the player who was cut. BUT do you cut a player over socks? Did Bear Bryant ever call a player into his office and tell him he was off the team for wearing the wrong pair of socks? Are we talking about Ensign Pulver and the strawberries and a pair of socks, or a discipline issue? And if it is a discipline issue, is a pair of socks the point where it all hits critical mass?

    Tennessean survey

Survey? Why do you need to do a survey? The Banner has folded, and there is less and less sports coverage period in the Tennessean. And less and less high school sports coverage. One cannot get all the scores any more in The Tennessean. If it wasn't for the TSSAA site and Coach T, a Middle Tennessean would have a difficult time keeping up with high school sports.

    The Lock

Anyone know why the lock was put on the Oak Ridge thread about the socks? Personally, I thought it was an interesting debate.
  11. Volunteer General: Isn't that the root of the problem with any type of "governing body" -- it inevitably becomes reactive and the rules often make little sense? The TSSAA has to get some private school representation on its Board. Shouldn't private schools have a say in how these type of transfers are handled? How about how private schools are classified? Are private schools not approaching the TSSAA regarding representation?
  12. Forget the TSSAA book...I know of at least one waiver case. If someone is seriously considering transferring from a private to a public school, call the TSSAA office and ask about obtaining a waiver. And I believe there may be a difference in the case of a senior.
  13. I could be wrong, but I believe a private school student/athlete can transfer to a public school without sitting out a year if he or she obtains a waiver.
  14. Has Brentwood Academy or the TSSAA appealed the latest decision? What was the latest decision? Has there been one decision, or has there been an appeal? The legal issue has not been completely resolved, right?

    Franklin

Anyone know why the Head Coaching position is open at Franklin in Williamson County? Is Coach Callicott coaching with the football team?
  16. Tom Owens has be considered as one of the best coaches in Tennessee history.
  17. Bear Bryant...a great coach who won with talent. When the Tide had a couple of down years ('69-'70), the talent was the reason. The coach didn't change, but the talent did! The Bear later went on record, saying that he was thinking of going somewhere else during this period, and didn't recruit well during those years. Anyone know the story of Bear Bryant's reaction to getting beat by USC when Charles White was the tailback? Coach Bryant made it very clear that he wanted talent. John Hannah, Joe Namath, Ken Stabler, Lee Roy Jordan, Gene Stallings, Ozzie Newsome, Dwight Stevenson, etc. Could the great Bear Bryant have won without talent? You cannot have a great coach without great talent. A quote from Bear Bryant: "No coach has ever won a game by what he knows; it's what his players know that counts."
  18. Panfan: I think my point is rather obvious, but I am waiting to discuss the issue with Volunteer General -- if he decides to respond to the question.
  19. Volunteer General: You said it, but you don't understand it: Stan...did you mean to say intellectual dishonesty? I'll ask around, but I don't think there is a difference in the two terms: intellectually dishonet and intellectual dishonesty. You are too "micro" in this debate, and you are not seeing the bigger picture. WHY DOES A NCAA DIVISION I FOOTBALL TEAM NOT SCHEDULE A DIVISION III TEAM? WOULD A DIVISION III TEAM WANT TO PLAY A DIVISION I TEAM IN THE PLAYOFFS? Would Perry County want to face USJ or CPA in the playoffs? WHY ARE THERE CLASSIFICATIONS/DIVISIONS IN NCAA FOOTBALL?
  20. Volunteer General: WHY DOES THE NCAA HAVE DIFFERENT FOOTBALL CLASSIFICATIONS/DIVISIONS?
  21. Volunteer General: I am afraid you might be guilty of being intellectually dishonest. Vanderbilt is not competitive, and an extreme example. A better exampe would have Tennesssee Tech playing against Notre Dame, Stanford, GA Tech, Boston College, UT, Alabama, Ole Miss, etc. Why have Division I, Division II and Division III classifications in NCAA-sanctioned football? Are you afraid to answer the question?
  22. Volunteer General: If you didn't understand or disagree with my last post on classifications, perhaps this idea will move you to the "other side" of the argument: Forget OVC, MAC, Pac 10, SEC, etc. Moreover, forget Division I, II or III -- regarding college football. Let all teams play against each other, regardless of the school's size or budget. Any objection to allowing (forcing?) all college football teams, regardless of size or classification to play against each other? Why can't Tennessee Tech beat UT? Let Lambuth play against MTSU. Why not have Notre Dame play in the OVC? Why do you think the coaches of those schools would object to playing each other? [Edited by StanTrott on 7/8/02 5:54P]
  23. Volunteer General: 1A schools have a smaller school population (than higher classifications), and how the size of the school impacts the quality of teams should be self evident. Are you following me? For example, a large 5A school's first string will usually beat a 1A school's first string because the 5A school has a larger student population. Are you following me? One or two exceptional athletes can make a major difference on any TSSAA 5A, 4A, 3A, 2A or 1A football team. Are you following me? There are several factors that take potential 1A athletes away from certain 1A schools. What gives private 1A schools a major advantage over rural (which are most of the 1A schools) 1A schools is the ability to put at least one or two, often more exceptional athletes on the field. If you don't follow this logic, go talk to a 4A or 5A Head Football coach and ask him this question: "Do you want to compete against private schools? We are discussing moving most of the private schools up from 1A and 2A to 4A and 5A classifications." I am willing to bet $100 that you are not talking to more than one or two (if any) 4A or 5A Head Coaches. They don't want to play against private schools. Neither do most 1A or 2A Head Coaches. Do you follow me? Please let me know how many Head Coaches you are talkiing to about this issue.
  24. VG: ELA is biased? What is your definition of "biased?" Let me guess, anyone who disagrees with you...because that is essentially your argument. 4A and 5A coaches are not going to like any system that places private schools in their classification. Furthermore, 99% of coaches will not agree to a system that adds "points" for winning championships. There are no 4A and 5A coaches posting on this site. What does that tell you? Who helped create the split -- the large schools or the small schools?
  25. The idea of really high test scores is a bad one. Come on Volunteer General! You want to give financial aid to only those students who have high tests? Speaking of the other topic -- all the 4A and 5A coaches will have the same problems with privates that 1A and 2A have. But there should be private school representatives voting on the TSSAA Board. Taxation without representation...
