  1. If you have a contact there, do you mind just checking and see if they are possibly carrying the USJ-Knoxville Webb game also? We get WKNO in Jackson and surrounding area and it would be seen by a lot more people than it would have on local cable station. I did hear on Jackson talk radio this afternoon that it was not being carried because the production company that feeds the games is not carrying game. I don't have a contact there...just picked up the phone and called. I just checked their website and it does show the MUS game on their schedule for Thursday, but not the USJ game.
  2. Now 6th! Go Owls! I'll be interested to see the USA Today rankings tomorrow.
  3. I just called WKNO Memphis and they confirmed they WILL be showing the MUS-MBA game.
  4. According to the MUS website, the MUS-MBA game will be broadcast in Memphis on WKNO Channel 10.
  5. A haiku for Hadouken: Strategy failure Sends Owls again to the 'ship Better luck next time
  6. I agree with owlbooster's sentiment, rrr, thanks for the kind words. I hope all of the traveling Baylor folks have a safe (but disappointing) trip...if you want to come over to the home side and visit (it's a beautiful facility), you'll be warmly welcomed. Go Owls!
  7. For those who prefer the Nashville-avoidance route and will be coming in to Shelby County via Hwy. 72, after passing through Collierville, turn right onto Houston Levee (at the giant American flag at Landers Ford), continue on a few miles and it will take you right to Briarcrest. Depending on the time of day, the Canada Rd route off I-40 can be a nightmare...lots of construction and narrow two-lane areas. If you take the Hwy. 72 route, stop and eat at Huey's (across Houston Levee from the Ford dealer -- best burger anywhere, hands down.) This may be the place you were thinking of Blue Mom...they do have an outdoor eating area.
  8. Well, there were certainly no tears on this board last year when MUS drew what most considered to be the tougher path to the championship game. They took care of business one game at a time last year while projected championship contender Ensworth hit a BA roadblock in the semis. Given the overall caliber of play in Div. II AA, I don't think either side of the bracket is a cakewalk. Go Owls!
  9. You beat me to it, Big Sneaky. MUS holds Briarcrest's high-powered offense to two field goals. Keep rolling, Owls!

    CBHS @ MUS

The fact that this game was selected as one of the USAF's Great American Rivalry games added to the already charged atmosphere. This was a classic Friday night rivalry between two outstanding Tennessee schools. Go Owls!
  11. I wonder if the player who hit MUS lineman Witt Meloni in the facemask after the play was whistled dead was the same guy who did the exact same thing in the MUS game last year to another of the MUS linemen. The only difference is that last year, the refs didn't see it (but the cameraman, who got a great shot of it on the game film, did). This year, the cheap shot got the player tossed from the game. Hope it was a lesson learned for him. Congratulations, Owls!
  12. It's very easy...from I-40 get on I-240 to Jackson MS. Take the Poplar Ave East/Germantown exit. There are a couple of lights before you get to the Poplar/Ridgeway intersection...turn right onto Ridgeway (you'll go under the RR tracks), through the light at Park Ave and the MUS campus is on your left. Continue on until you get to the light at Primacy Parkway...a left turn there will take you directly onto the MUS campus. (Mapquest will take you to the front entrance on Park, but the Ridgeway entrance is the "main" one.) You can't miss the stadium...in fact, you'll see it before you get to the entrance. Even if you are a fan of the opposing team, consider sitting on the home side -- it's a beautiful venue, and you'll find the Owl fans are very welcoming.
  13. I'll be surprised if you see any Owl fans on here suggesting anything of the sort. Last year preseason and well into the season, all I read on here were discussions of whether it would be BA or MBA who'd bring home the gold ball. The MUS folks quietly waited, knowing the Owls had what it took. There's a lot of season yet to be played, and no one knows it any better than the MUS faithful. Go Owls!
  14. The 2008 DII-AA champion ended the season as the top-ranked team in the state of TN, covering alll divisions.
  15. The Memphis Commercial Appeal ran two nice articles this past week -- one on Hutchison v. Houston and the other on MUS v. CBHS. They also list games in the section with the rest of the box scores. Hutchison v. Houston MUS v. CBHS I understand the Commercial Appeal is also going to start including lacrosse as a Best of the Preps sport this year.
  16. Ummm, yep...Hutchison, Houston, St. Mary's, Briarcrest, Collierville, St. Agnes, Lausanne/White Station (combined team), St. George's, St. Benedict -- all in West TN. In Middle TN, the only ones I'm familiar with are Harpeth Hall, Ensworth and Ravenwood. I'm sure there are a number of teams I've left out in middle and also in the east.
  17. My aging memory could be faulty, but I swear I read something somewhere that said they only started handing out these trophies in 2007. If that's true, then DII-AA is two for two. Keep the streak alive!
  18. From the Commercial Appeal: "The Division 2-AA state-champion Memphis University School football team was presented a national ranking trophy Monday by the Army National Guard for finishing the year ranked No. 25 nationally by unapproved website, a California-based company that ranks more than 15,000 high school varsity football teams. MUS, which knocked off Brentwood Academy, 38-18, in the D2-AA state-title game in November to finish the season 13-0, is one of 30 teams nationwide being honored during the unapproved website Tour of Champions presented by the Army National Guard."
  19. DIVISION 2 Offense QB - Ryan Dubois (SBEC) QB - Barry Brunetti (MUS) QB - Spencer Wise (MBA) QB - Jamal Ramsey (BGA) RB - Wesley Tate (Pope John Paul II) RB - Justin Williams (Davidson Academy) RB - Orleans Darkwa (Ensworth) RB - Sam Williams (Baylor) WR - William Tanner (MBA) WR - Marlon Brown (Harding Academy) WR - Trey Wilkins (St. Benedict) WR - Taylor Reed (MUS) OL - Austin Long (Briarcrest) OL - Wesley Johnson (MBA) OL - Gavin Fox (McCallie) OL - Sean Conway (Father Ryan) OL - Cliff Jones (MUS) OL - Alex Bullard (Brentwood Academy) TE - Thad McHaney (Brentwood Academy) ATH - Tavarres Jefferson (Ensworth) ATH - Caleb Blance (Webb) K - Andrew Fletcher (MBA) Defense DL - Barry Dabney (Brentwood Academy) DL - Scott Bubis (MBA) DL - Dan Gant (FACS) DL - Camp Arnett (Webb) DL - Ryan Carrethers (Brentwood Academy) DL - Will Netterville (Ensworth) LB - Blair Arrington (Davidson Academy) LB - Will Rikard (Harding Academy) LB - Walt Wepfer (MUS) LB - Meade Edmunds (Webb) DB - Chris Reeves (BGA) DB - Mitchell Stoffer (Father Ryan) DB - Clark Johnson (Webb) DB - Jay Fullam (McCallie) P Miles Magallnes (BGA) Division 2 Coach of the Year: Bobby Alston (MUS)
  20. Congratulations to all, especially MUS's Barry Brunetti...so good that they put his picture in a second time where Thad McHaney's ought to have been!
  21. I was too busy watching my son, who was playing on offense for the red team, to get a true feel for whether Holmes or Hunter played better. My remark above was more my son's perspective than mine. To me, blue just never seemed to get going on offense...that's a hazard of all star games -- too many individuals and not enough "team".
  22. He looked as good as any of them considering they had less than a week to practice and one of the practices was cancelled due to the weather. Gabriel Hunter was the blue team standout. It was really more of a defensive struggle.
  23. Congratulations to the Red team All-Stars for the first-ever shut out in the Liberty Bowl All Star game, and a special congratulations to the MUS players who were victorious in their last game in the MUS stadium: Michael Folk, Cliff Jones, Walt Wepfer and Will Stokes. Has anyone checked to see if Wepfer's 77 yard punt was a game record?
  24. If you come in the gate on the MUS side, walk to your right in the concessions corridor. When you get to the end, follow the sidewalk down to the tailgate area...it's sort of beside the scoreboard. You'll know you are there when you see the plaque designating it as a memorial tailgate area. There aren't any benches or permanent tables, but you can walk over and stand at the fence to watch whichever team will be warming up on the south end. Just my recommendation as a meeting spot.

    MUS

As the parent of an MUS starting senior (and at great risk of further incurring the undeserved wrath of MUS19), I am happy to accept your congratulations. I am a big fan of the First Amendment and take exception to anyone telling me what I should and shouldn't do but as a nod to MUS19, I will refrain from purporting to represent the whole team and write only on behalf of my son, who worked very hard to help his team reap this reward. Thanks also to all the other fans who have posted in support of what I consider to be a very special group of young men.
