  1. I can't wait for Friday night! I sure hope we see another strong dose of "The Future" Devin Rogers, he looked great last week against Greeneville. Hopefully he has at least another 15 carries or more this week so he can show he is the best freshman in the area. I have faith in the Offensive Line that they will block just as good or even better then they did last week. Falcons come out on top in this one 35 to 13
  2. Come on Falcon fans you were around at the first of the season, the team still needs support no matter what their record is. The boys go out and play hard every Friday night!
  3. First off I want to start by saying way to go offensive line! You played excellent this past week against Greeneville, you have taken alot of heat this season and you came through big, even though Volunteer lost I think they can build from what they did against Greeneville. It was nice to see Devin being able to run with a full back blocking for him, and he had nice big holes to hit up the middle. Also it was nice to see the sweeps working well. Onto the Crockett game, If Volunteer builds on what they were able to do with the running game and the passing game stays strong they will definitely come out of this one on top! We are just waiting to see if Volunteer can have the complete game.
  4. The Falcons may have lost to Greeneville last night, but the Freshman back I had mentioned previous had a great outing in his second start at Tailback. Last night he had 12 carries for 135 yards, I can't wait to see him get even better over the next few years. The kid has the speed, he has vision which you can't teach, he cuts, spins and jukes. Also even though he is 155 pounds he will lower his shoulder and lay a lick on you and keep on running!
  5. Coming into conference play Volunteer is 1-1 and that is what matters, the two non conference losses don't mean anything, they were just to help to make Volunteer a stronger team. If Volunteer can keep from shooting theirself in the foot with mistakes such as muffing punts inside the 10 two weeks in a row, they will be right there to fight with Greeneville to the end! Hopefully Coach Rider can view the film from last week and see how Bell. Co had such a great run block, they got off the ball so fast and opened huge holes, their offensive linemen were looking for people to hit, and not waiting for people to come and hit them. As long as the best athletes are on the field Volunteer will have the chance to come out of this one a winner.
  6. From what the posters have said about Bell Co. it sounds like this is going to be a really tough one for Volunteer. It would be nice to see the Volunteer coaching staff giving freshman TB Devin Rogers more of a chance since he is the future of the team. He is such a dangerous player in the open field and isn't getting the chance to show it since he can't get out of the backfield because of the lack of blocking. Run some screen passes to him, or it would be nice to see him lined up at receiver going out for a deep ball because he definitely has the speed to get behind a defensive secondary, also I have noticed that he gets put in late in the game on special teams for returns to try to give the team a spark, why not start him on special teams if you want a spark to get the team pumped up early on in the game?
  7. I work with young men that play on both teams, so I wish the best of luck to both schools. Hopefully it will be a great close game that comes down to the last few plays.
  8. So I have been trying to find the win-loss record for Bell Co, and I haven't been successful. Anyone have any information on the school? Volunteer is coming off another tough loss against Boone. If Volunteer can find a way to run the ball for positive yards again like they did against Cocke Co. they will find themself to be a winner again. It was nice to see them using the pass to the Tight End this past Friday night, it worked very well. Next if we could see them use some RB screen passes, since so many players on the defense are coming through untouched.
  9. I would agree with you on Tennessee High having a unique stadium, but that is it. It is definitely not nice, it is pretty run down if you ask me. Out of all the stadiums I have been to in Northeast, Tn not one has been as nice to some of the ones I visited while living in South Carolina. If I had to choose for best Friday night atmosphere would have to be Dobyns Bennett. The nicest overall would have to be Morristown East/West.
  10. Volunteer High School has a great RB Devin Rogers #5 that isn't getting but maybe 4 touches a game on Varisty since the line isn't blocking anyone this year, and they are passing pretty much 80% of the time. In JV games he is putting up great rushing numbers and having good recieving numbers, also returning punts and kickoffs, and playing saftey also. His footwork will make your head spin, he is a back that can juke you out of your shoes and also lower his shoulder or stiff arm you to the ground. Definitely look for this young man in the upcoming years!
  11. Volunteer gets their first win of the season tonight. VHS 21 Boone 10
  12. Good Luck to the Falcons from New York City! Hopefully when I get back home the Falcons are 2-0 to the start the season.
  13. I feel Rider will have the boys ready to play come game night. As long as the O-line can give Luke some protection he has some pretty good targets. Also if the O-line can open some holes and hold some blocks to allow the rb's to get out of the back field you may see some very exciting runs by any of the rb's on the team.
  14. From what I saw tonight Greeneville was by far the most impressive team. Greenway looked great, and the running back Hall ran all over East. Also I know it is just a warm up but I expected Knight from East to be in on almost every tackle, looked to me like he wasn't playing full speed, which I can understand. I left before the last quarter after the skills competition so I didn't see West and Cocke County. Volunteer and Boone were scoreless at the end of the first quarter. Boone started rushing well on the Falcons near the end of the quarter. Jeff Co played Cherokee, looked to me by the size of the kids on Jeff Co, that it may have been their JV players? Not sure, but they were smaller guys on the field while larger guys were on the sidelnes. Either way Jeff Co was up on Cherokee 6-0 at the end of the quarter. Greeneville looks to be the team to beat for sure!
  15. Nice article on Tricitiessports.com about the Falcons and Devin. Talks about young players making an impact in the Tri-Cities on 4A and 5A teams. Devin actually had over 1500 yards last year and averaged about 7 to 10 carries a game since he was not needed in the second half since they were up so much. 22 td's as well. Here is the actual link to the article http://www.tricitiessports.com/default.asp...rts&he=.com
  16. A scrimmage is good to find out who is a diamond in the rough, since the 1 string usually plays a couple of series and lets everyone else have a time to shine. Hopefully Volunteer has another great week of practice and comes out of the scrimmage knowing who will be playing what positions and injury free. /thumb[1].gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":thumb:" border="0" alt="thumb[1].gif" />
  17. So now they Falcons have a week of practice under their belts, Hopefully there will be a good update tomorrow evening after the scrimmage. I was hoping to make it up there, but with it being tax free weekend there was no way I could.
  18. The true start to the season kicks off tomorrow for the boys, I can't wait to hear some news on how the practices go. I wish them all the best of luck during the next few weeks preparing for the 08 season.
  19. I definitely agree with you that there has to be someone that is in the Volunteer Alumni that either has some money to donate to the program and get a tax break, or someone that is in the construction business who is a Volunteer Alumni and could do an add-on to the field house. I don't know what all equipment has been added to the field house, but I know back in 98-99 former Coach Mike Mays(at Tennessee High now) took steps to getting new equipment. Hopefully there has been more added since then. What is it going to take for people to starting donating money to the sports programs at Volunteer?
  20. I know there has to be more supporters of the Falcons lurking on the board, come on a post a few comments on your thoughts for this upcoming season. Also anyone with the touchdown club, it would be nice to be able to order some items and have them shipped. Maybe see about setting up a online store on the Falcons website and accepting paypal?
  21. So you really know Devin? If you are saying all this you must. I do know Devin and he is honestly one of the most humble young men I have ever known, and to be as talented as he is that says alot(Lord knows if I was 14 with his talent, I couldn't be as humble as he is). He is a great christian kid, that puts God before anything. He has a great support group in his mother, grandmother and brother. He works just as hard in the classroom as he does on the field, so grades will not be a worry for him in high school. If he doesn't get in the game on varisty expect him to be on the sidelines cheering on his teammate's and congraulating them when they come off the field. And why pick on a young man that has only worked out a handful of times in his life? Is he suppose to come in and bench 225 for 20 reps? If he doesn't get the chance to play on varisty this season, it will just make him work that much harder in the coming years to better himself. As for the Falcons I was at the passing camp last night they did look pretty good. Cradic has a nice arm on him, the wide recievers ran some good crisp routes, Austin catches pretty much anything thrown to him. I am just ready for the pads to be put on and full contact to start. Only 48 days till the first game, which sadly I will miss the first two as I will be in New York City for 28 days working for Nike at the US Open.
  22. There is a freshman that is coming into Volunteer this season that if given the chance I believe he can prove he has what it takes to play on Varsity. He has a hunger to be on the field, and he will do what it takes to help the team win.
  23. How is Coach Rider on playing freshman? Is he willing to play the best talent/athlete he has no matter what grade they are?
  24. Only 66 days till the first game of the season at Sullivan East! I must say that I am going to be pumped to be able to see the Falcons play in person this year. Because of work I haven't been to a game in person since 02. Hopefully I won't miss the first two games of the year by being in NYC for work. I am looking forward to coming back to town and supporting the boys. Hopefully the golf tournament raised alot of money for the football program!
