  1. I have been trying to avoid this, but I just don't get it. So where do i begin? I have never saw so many TURBOVERS and MISS READS by a QB in a long time. I attended last weeks game against Bearden and was definitely disappointed in what we call offense. The veer is a good productive offense, but you HAVE TO HAVE A QB THAT CAN READ THE DEFENSE AND KNOW HOW TO MAKE THE RIGHT READS. The QB must only think that #6 is the only receiver we have, although #24 and #16 were wide open all night. I just don't understand what Coach Anderson sees in Goins! Turnovers do not win games. I know he is returning next season, but I feel he is cheating the SENIORS on the team. I was so frustrated last week after I left the game because we have so good athletes on the team, but our coaching staff appears to have them in the wrong positions. I was not able to attend tonight's game at Sevierville, but got some updates by phone from someone that was attending. Apparently we have major turnover issues in the skilled position areas because 2 weeks in a row turnovers have been our worst enemy. From what I understand we had a chance to win the game, but QB errors prevented that from happening. I am curious to know what our QB grades out at. It can't be very high. So I have come to a conclusion about Jefferson County and that is this: If Coach Anderson would quit LYING to the team maybe things would be a little different. When the head coach lies to the players and they know it, they have no RESPECT for him. I'll continue to support Jeff. Co. football, but I will never understand where the old school physical smashmouth attitude has gone. We are now 0-3 and I'm afraid it is going to be a long year. Would it hurt to try something different? I mean we can't do any worse. We have a QB on the sideline that may be able to get the job done, but we don't know because we don't want to try anything different. Goins is a good athlete, he has speed and is capable of making some plays, but he needs to be at receiver or somewhere so we can get the ball to him and let him make some plays. I know #16 Denton has a good arm and based on a few spring scrimmages has a good knowledge of the offense. What is wrong with putting him at QB and Goins at receiver and seeing what we can do?
  2. I agree with all of your comments except for the comment about McFall being a natural option QB with his speed and size. Yes he is very quick, but he need to be moved back to tailback where his speed is utilized, He is not smart enough to play QB. Morristown West didn't beat us last night. McFall and his 14 thousand mistakes and turnovers, offensive play calling, and defensive schemes lost us the ball game.
  3. Well I was at the game last night and I like most people expected Jeff. Co. to win, but those 7 TURNOVERS were a definite back breaker for us and a plus for Morristown West. I personally do't think that West looked that good. We can't expect our deffense to play as many minutes as they had to play last night and be able to stop anyone. As many games as I have been to in the last 2 years I just dont uderstand why we can't get better play calling? We seem to have a very predictable pattern. I noticed last night when we are in tough yardage situations that we did not utilize Will Brooks like we need to. Another thing is that McFall needs to make alot better decisions at the QB position. It seems like he can't make very good decisions when it comes to giving on the dive or pulling the ball back out and running the option as well as passing the football. At some point we are going to have to pass to open up the offense. We had 2 successful pass plays last night, one we scored on and the other we gained several yards and then we go away from the pass and run the same play or plays over and over and over. As far as the turnovers go, with McFall is going to have to make some better decisions. Why when you are being tackled from behind would try to throw the ball forward when there was not a reciever in the area instead of taking the sack? When we are on the 20 and he is being pressured would he run backwards to scramble instead of trowing the ball away out of bounds instead of losing 7 to 10 yards? That is poor decision making from a senior!! McFall is a good athelete, but I think we loose his ability as a football player by playing him at QB instead of tailback. He is definitely a better at running back than at QB. Defensively, we played terrible our corners got burnt all night long. Ben Moore and Nick Grindstaff either need to step uo and play some football or be replaced. i saw both of these guys stop on plays and that would be unacceptable for me if I was the Defensive Backs coach. Both of those resukted in touchdowns for West. Moore just got flat out beat and Grindstaff was running with the reciever and basically watched him catch the ball for a TD. I would have gotten an interference penalty befor I let him catch the ball for a TD. Atleast make them earn the TD.Also this is the thing, after the game Coach Anderson told the team they needed to practice better. Maybe our coaches need to have a better game plan. I would rate the game like this: Offense> D Deffense> D Special Teams> D Coaches> D. Hopefully we can get our act together before we start playing 5A calibur football teams. Afterall Morristown West is only a 4A team and we couldn't stop them. Good luck next week.
  4. After reading some of these posts I was just wondering why some people say why can't we get any better competition that West Greene. In the past we haven't done to well against a coach that played at Jeff. Co. and the coach from West Greene (Joe Case) is an ex-patriot. They may be rebuilding but he will be ready for a return to Dumplin Valley. After seeing the results from our previous scrimmages don't you think some of the teams we scrimmaged thinks the same thing about us. I think maybe we should not be so critical of a team that may have only won 1 game last season because we have not been up to par in our scrimmages against Sullivan South or Knox Central. My parents were at the Knox Central scrimmage and overheard some members of the Maryville coaching staff say that Jeff. Co. was a disgrace to 5A football. I know we have some way to go before we can expect to return to powerhouse like we were but I do believe those Maryville coaches we close to correct. I just don't think some of these kids really know the tradition of Jeff. Co. football. People used to dread playing Jeff. Co. and now we are just considered another team. Maybe you all are seeing something that I am not but I do believe we are going to be in for a long season. I hope that I am wrong but I guess we will see when we make the trip to Greeneville on August 22.
