  1. Andrews impressed the heck out of me. He was the best player on the floor, BY FAR. Some of those 22-24 footers with a hand in his face were impressive. Hammonds had a great second half, but his free throw bug-a-boo came back and bit him in the butt AGAIN! Siegel just missed Tyler Cutter in so many ways this year, and they all came to pass in this game. Dotson seemed to want to get something out of Nicholas from the PG position last night and couldn't........I don't even remember him playing in the second half, after some questionable play in the first. Ellis WILL be a better player next year, he's a good athlete, has a pretty good handle, but he is going to have to get some rotation on his shot. In high school, you have to have a floor general, and Siegel lacked that this season. You could see it coming.......I thought that they still had a good chance to go to the glass house, but knew that they could not have done anything once they got there. One poster above mentioned it...........if they had a kid like Hockenberry, they would still be playing. The good thing for Siegel is that they will have a better team next year, especially if some of their Sophomores improve and Gooch stays (which, considering Oakland runs the ball 96% of the time and he plays WR............I don't really see the point in him going to OHS.............if he was a tailback, sure, but he's not). They just have to get better PG play and Dotson has to firm up their halfcourt sets. Kerry running around in circles and everyone else watching is not good offense.
  2. I stand by my comments earlier......I get you point about coming out and pressuring, but what happens is that the officials are then on the spot. Perfect example Let's say, you have an athletic, inner-city school like a Memphis Mitchell or a Nashville Maplewood who play in a more "liberally" officiated District/Region where it is understood that there will be more physicality allowed in those games against District/Regional competition (i.e. more hand checking). They play a school like, say, Macon County, who plays in a more deliberate District where teams value possession more and the officials probably call it a little tighter. Those two teams play each other.......................If Macon County has two kids that can handle the ball decently and has the right refs................................might be a LONG night for the city team. Plus, if you can't get a good shot in 35 seconds running some sort of Continuity motion offense, you shouldn't be playing high school basketball anyways.
  3. I agree with the OP on the fact that there needs to be a shot clock in high school basketball. There are just too many ways a lesser team can hijack a game playing the Four Corners. It really makes what should be a faster paced sport unwatchable. 35 second shot clock would be optimal IMO.
  4. Any word on the Station Camp - Macon County start time? It is scheduled for 7PM, but wanted to check and see if that was still the case?
  5. I agree and disagree with your statement. I thought that Randy really had his kids ready to play, as always, but I kind of feel like he took them out of their rhythm to start the third quarter, and they never recovered. They went into their "stall" on the opening possessions of the second half after running with Siegel toe to toe in the first half. They didn't get a good look in those possessions and then Dotson pulled his trump card by playing the halfcourt trap for a few minutes to speed the Patroits back up......... that is where the Stars started to slowly build a lead. King is in a tough spot against Siegel (when Siegel is paying attention to detail on defense), because it is hard to run with them, BUT, the best looks Hockenberry, Nelson, and Adams are going to get are in transition. The Stars are long and can affect shots in the halfcourt, which led to some missed "bunnies" by Oakland later on. I actually thought Oakland was better served last night running........shoot, they were right there in the game at the half, in a game with a reasonably fast pace. Siegel just has too many bodies and too many guys that can beat you. I kind of like the edge they played with last night. BJ and Kerry were going at it, physically and verbally, all night. Never escalated too far, but they both had their competitiveness going. Just a great atmosphere for a championship game.
  6. I wonder if Aydelott may be in play here???? Blackman actually has the personnel to run his O........
  7. Coach Broome deserves to be reprimanded in my opinion, just based on the fact that things have changed (not for the better, in this instance), and that he needs to be hands off in this situation. But, make no mistake, this kid deserved to get a tongue lashing at the very least. I just think the lack of the "threat" of physical punishment has really given kids a green light to do whatever they want. That is not a good thing. Its always a good thing for a teenage boy to have a "healthy fear" of an an authority figure. If I would have cussed my high school coach, my daddy and my coach would have laid hands on me.
  8. Seems like the rain is going to stop here in the next hour, which really does healp Siegel a bunch. They would have stood no chance in a physical, grind it out, mudder game. With that said, Oakland is the more well-rounded, more physical team, and they will win this one 27-14
  9. Sorry, Here is the link to the story: http://www.tennessean.com/apps/pbcs.dll/ar...RTS07/810240378
  10. Guys, Couldn't believe I did not see a thread about this topic, so here it goes. This situation is pretty dadgum comical to me. 1. Quarterback comes off the field mouthing off at the coach. 2. Coach puts him in his place using a "little" force. 3. Kid goes home and tattles. 4. Daddy gets all PO'd. 5. Dad goes into administration. 6. Coach and player get suspended. Does anybody else here on the board that is over the age of 25 or so, and played high school ball, find this absolutely comical. Look, its not OK to be beating on kids and stuff. HOWEVER, if a player comes off cussing at his coach, there used to be an unwritten rule that you were placing your own life at risk at that point. Look, I'm biased. I know Arcentae Broome, I like Arcentae Broome, and I KNOW he loves coaching kids. He probably needs to pick a better way to deal with this situation next time by placing Mr. Spolied Brat on the pine, and let that do the beating for him. This pandering of teenagers has just got to stop somewhere. It was not like he slugged the kid or anything. I would have loved for this kid to play for a Doug Mullican. Warren Dunn, Tommy Owen, Cornelius Ridley, or some of those other old school guys and seen what would have happened. Those coaches would be in jail today for some of the things they would have done to him! Parents have completely sissified football at Mcgavock High on this one. What do you guys think?
  11. Not a well called game by Siegel's offensive coaching staff. The Stars were having a hard time shutting off backside penetration on their Counter and Bootleg series, yet, never seemed to make any adjustments or just go away from it all together. They were wasting first down play calls and subsequentially played behind the sticks from the middle of the second quarter on. Witt, Gooch, and Ward could have won that game by 10 points, if they just would have gone to the passing game a little sooner. I've been hard on Watson in the past, and I felt he and his staff made an error on this, but he's far from the only coach that waits too long to start passing exclusively. Witt has a lot of potential as a QB (coming from a former QB that ran a VERY similar Pro-I system in HS), but he has to develop that QB clock in his head. He's a really good passer, but he does two things that will get you beat this week: 1. He gets TOO locked on Gooch at times. I don't blame him, but some of those other guys, specifically Ward, can make plays. 2. He holds the ball too long. He took three sacks where he should have either bailed the pocket or thrown the ball away. I really like Siegel's abiltiy, but I think they may lack the intangibles to beat Oakland.
  12. The truth is in the middle right here. Aydelott has made some mistakes at Riverdale, starting with running the Wing-T with his pre-2008 talent. Line up in the Pro-I and that team wins state in 2006 or 2007 behind Spurlock and Lillenthal. He could have built up some equity with that, but he didn't, and he's paying for it dearly. But, in Ron's defense, the talent level has dipped severely, and even Rankin wouldn't be going through Region 4-5A unscathed. The talent is just more spread out now. In 1996, Siegel, Wilson Central, and Blackman didn't exist. And LaVergne and Smyrna were playing in 4A. All of these areas were in Riverdale's zone or in their alleged "recruiting territory". Not trying to beat that horse, but I'm just saying that things have changed and somebody read the tea leaves and bailed out with his reputation intact when he saw Smyrna slowly turning into a power and the others cutting into his roster (I don't begrudge him for that either). Heck, Blackman went deep in the playoffs in 2001 with a bunch of Riverdale's backups when they opened the building. That's how strong the Warriors were, but the new school openings and the improvements up on Exit 70 made Riverdale a much tougher job.
  13. This is the 100% Church on this subject: Oakland is the better overall team. Siegel has a few exceptional guys that even the playing field. I'm telling you, Marc Gooch is the best athlete this county has seen since probably Eric Locke or Fernando Bryant.......and that's saying a bunch. I'm not a "rider" (if you know what I mean..............gotta keep it clean on here), but Gooch has Sunday afternoon, LP Field athleticism. He just needs to keep his nose clean and work on the little things. He could be a star in the SEC one day at WR or at CB. Whichever he chooses. He, Witt, and haynes make Siegel a tough out in this Region.
  14. Prayers for both Corey and John. With that said, I don't think I've seen a QB get better over the course of two years more than Graham Nichols. He is not the same star struck kid I saw in 2006, that's for sure. Kudos to Graham and the FHS offensive staff for working hard. He looked like a D-I college QB out there.
  15. Very unimpressed with Blackman's playcalling, that goes without saying, and several young men on this thread have already hit on it. Their version of the spread seems to have no rhyme and little reason.
  16. Who in the heck builds Antioch's schedule. MBA and Riverdale to start out the season......................................I mean, are they gonna play the Titans in Week 3?
  17. Don't everyone speak at once, LOL!
  18. I hear the Stars and Raptors are hooking up today at a scrimmage. Does anyone know the location and what time it is supposed to start?
