  1. So MP is going to make another move in the county? That seems like a strange move to me. Has Batman/Gilligan completely burned bridges in Davidson and Williamson Counties? He may be eccentric, but he gets results, except for the failed Science Hill experiment.
  2. This is such an interesting job. Seems like it has all of the makings of a dream "zone" from an academic and athletic point of view. Any new word on what's going to happen at SC?
  3. Gilligan makes too much freaking sense at Ravenwood. Too much.
  4. Probably a logistical and financial issue. I know that Vanderbilt is having their 7 on 7 on Friday and Saturday, so this may be the only way to ensure a who's who in attendance. With that said, I doubt one Sunday playing ball is going to push the kids towards heathen status. If any of them achieve their dream of playing in the big league, all of those games are on Sunday at high noon.
  5. LOL, I had two guys from East Tennessee with the initials SS who seemed like possibilities for this job. I thought that the other SS, with his Middle Tennessee ties would have been a more likely fit. LaVergne could do worse than Stanton in all honesty.
  6. I used to like Lost Ole Dad too, until he started spewing the ole Southern Party Line on politics. Love people taking shots at someone who accomplished something that they couldn't have in 30,000 tries. If you aren't impressed with Ivy League scholars, as uppity as they may be at times, I question your logic. If I have my choice of surgeons or lawyers, I'll take the Harvard guy 9 times out of 10. Back to the subject, I do agree with LOD that LaVergne needs a strong disciplinarian in charge of the campus as a whole and the football team as well. I actually think Will Hester is a fine young football coach, he was just put in a situation that a lot of young, ambitious guys would not succeed in. Rutherford County should be ASHAMED at how much of a stepchild LaVergne's athletic programs are compared to the rest of the county. From the practice facilities on down, they aren't playing on an equal playing field. Heck, Antioch and Cane Ridge are Metro schools 4 miles away and both have better facilities for goodness sakes. I will be very interested to see who they go after. I thought Ralph would have been an intriguing hire, but that looks unlikely now.
  7. I don't see Perry at Siegel for the Wing-T reason. He's an outstanding coach and his system is pretty diverse for a Wing-T system, but think about this for a second. Who will be Siegel's QB next year?? Who does his dad coach?? What system does daddy use?? You get all of your answers when you put two and two together.
  8. I think Scott is a pretty darn good football coach myself, but I think he's an ill fit at Science Hill. I saw them last summer and I don't think he has the personnel there to coach what he knows best. I think the guy gets a bad rap for one or two statements he has made in the past, but I had a cousin who played for him and he loves the guy. I think he would do best to come back to Middle Tennessee and coach in a more familiar setting, with a different type of pressure than being the only show in Johnson City. I don't know if he would be my first choice there, but Siegel and Wilson Central could both do a lot worse than Smith, and those jobs are well within his comfort zone and professional footprint.
  9. I'm going to give #22 for Riverdale the benefit of the doubt. As a defensive back, you practice all year for that opportunity. Anybody who has ever played the game understands that range of emotion, particularly when it happened. That play was kind of a death knell for Blackman. He made a big-time stick and was quite proud of it, LOL. After that adrenaline wore off, I think he, and the rest of the Warrior kids, were concerned for Crutchfield and glad that he was able to walk off on his own. I have had the opportunity to watch Blackman 3-4 times this year, and they have nothing to be ashamed about. They have the right staff to keep them competitive and this season was a great first chapter. They just came out a little unsure and dug themselves a hole. Credit goes to Ron Aydelott for a masterful coaching job. The Warriors playcalling was aggressive and they found some holes in the Blaze defense and flat exploited them. If West can play that well for three more weeks, they may win this thing. His ability to be a true dual threat is impressive. The Warriors seldom seem passing attack completely took Blackman by surprise. Glad to know that the Patton kid has a good prognosis. You hate to see that happen, but I guess it was just a microcosm of the night. PBD, we wish him a speedy recovery and you relief on your deductible, LOL!
  10. Its the Playstation/XBOX "I want it now" generation. And to be honest, that's not all bad. Coaching is a tough profession, but all that are in it these days need to realize that they have about 4 years to turn around a program, or you're probably refreshing the resume on Monster.com. That's just the way it is in 2009. I see the fallacy in that, but I also see the fallacy in some old codger racking up tenure, holding on to some success he had back in 1982, when some younger guy with more energy could do more with the kids. Community support can be your best friend when you are winning, but it can be your worst enemy when things turn South.
  11. Any presale tickets available for this one....Need to pick some up early.
  12. Yep.... Come to some agreement with the Private Schools. Unify the TSSAA Four classes with a multiplier for the Private Schools that "recruit" (BA, MBA, Ensworth, MUS, CBHS, KC, Alcoa ) No more watered down crap or confusion. And the travel problems are greatly reduced.
  13. I don't even think this is going to be that great of a game. Blackman is that good.....I've been on that bandwagon since the opening 20 minutes of the Gallatin scrimmage. They are a strong bunch.
  14. Good call by Ensworth: 1. I think it benefits everyone by this game being played in ideal conditions 2. It certainly benefits Ensworth because of their offense 3. It benefits their gate tremendously....Titans play on Friday...no competition other than MBA-PC that night
  15. The weather right now is Oakland's friend.........that may be the big equalizer tonight. This batch of storms coming thru now is pretty fierce and there is another one coming from Arkansas that may hit around the 2nd quarter. Remember I told you so.....
  16. Blackman 27 Tullahoma 14 Too many athletes for Tullahoma to deal with.
  17. Is Blackman still going head up with BA tonight?
  18. Guys, They are not a finished product, but this team is pretty darn good to the trained eye. Blackman has balance and they have a staff that has been there/ done that. They have had the talent base there for 2-3 years now, the previous staff just did not have the ability to put it all together or the clout to make the kids there believe in the staff. Shad just has to show off those two rings from Smyrna and the buy-in is immediate. I'm a Rutherford County football fan....not tied to any particular school in the area, and I can tell you that I have seen Smyrna, Oakland, Siegel, and Blackman............and TODAY (things can change), I think Blackman impressed me the most. Oakland is really good defensively....but they are still lacking on O some. They aren't near as diverse offensively as Blackman is. I could see Oakland and Blackman playing the same game they played last year, except it will be Shawn breaking that one 60 yarder that could be the difference.
  19. Their first team was OUTSTANDING tonight. I thought Collier was his usual steady self. Smith looked great in the zone read scheme. #6 made a great over the shoulder catch on a TD bomb from Collier. #4 ran the ball well downhill #11 and #34 made some really big sticks early in run support. The backup QB #18 was REALLY sharp too.......was probably 4-6 for about 45 yards against some of Gallatin's big guns. This team looks a lot like Shad's teams from Smyrna back in the late 1990's - Early 2000's.....back when he had the Larry Daniels', Todd Russell's, Luke Powell's, Charles Orona's, etc................lots of SPEED out there for the Blaze and he uses them in different ways. Some spread option/zone read stuff to play to Collier's strengths. Some spread passing stuff, a lot of what you saw from Sonny and Rod at Smyrna. And his conventional I-Formation stuff out of 2 and 3 wide. I have said that this team is a playoff team before tonight......I'm sure of it now, as long as the injury bug doesn't get them. They will have to outscore some people though, as their D is feast or famine...they either stop you cold, or give up big chunks. Old 7AAA is gonna be a blast this fall.
  20. Blackman is beating Gallatin like a bad habit right now 28-7. I think the tide in Rutherford County may turn quickly. The Blaze have speed, depth, and a versatile mix of spread, spread option, and the I. Going to be a hard team to prepare for.
  21. When is the rescheduled scrimmage?
  22. Super Sectionals may be the way to go. Venue change really isn't a fix, because all things considered, Murfreesboro makes the most sense by a mile. Its as centrally located as can be and the 11,000 seats is perfect for the event (FedEx, Sommet, and TBA are too big). You really want Science Hill to travel from JC to Memphis? Or Dyer County to have to go to Knoxville? Not a good option. Having this event on the opening weekend of the NCAA's really does draw the crowd down, but what happened this year that really killed attendance was the lack of a local team in the tourney, especially in AAA. Last year, you had Siegel and Antioch playing each other in a Thursday evening game. Two schools within 20 miles of the Murphy Center.......and you had a great crowd.....you didn't have that this year. Beech was the closest school in AAA and they brought the largest student contingent. The format may need to be tweaked, but I hope the tourney can get back to the way it used to be.
  23. I REALLY like Oakland in this matchup. This is a classic case of 5 solid guys beating 2 really good ones. If the Eagles get a big game out of somebody not named Andrews of Twilley, they could win. But I can see King mixing up looks on Andrews and forcing the "supporting cast" to beat him. Oakland is playing so well right now, they put on a clinic Tuesday night.
  24. Prayers to Mr. Basketball finalist Drew Kelly and the rest of his family on the loss of his grandfather, longtime Austin Peay coach Lake Kelly. http://www.tennessean.com/article/20090305...060404/90305028
