  1. Invincible 7 Research has shown that kids at private schools get in trouble less, have less drug problems, perform better on standardized tests, and go to college at a much higher rate, more kids at private schools also go to church, if you want to bring morals in to it. I am talking about the average, there are exceptions to the rules, public schools probably have a lot more smart kids than private schools...they also have a lot more kids though.
  2. haha It's even more laughable because Brentwood High School won the statechampionship at 5A and Brentwood Academy didn't. BA beat BHS, and they might be a better team, but most kids like playing for a state champion (especially when going to that school is free!) Those schools are only a few blocks from each other...BHS is very nice, and has great athletics (volleyball, football, basketball, etc) I take up for BA, but it would be tough to convince me to go to BA when the school i was zoned to was winning state titles.
  3. If this was a thread about a particular coach seen recruiting kids, it would be locked immediately. If it was about a coach threatening a player it would be locked immediately. If it was about a referee taking money under the table, it would be locked immediately. All of these would have the exact same answer by whoever locked it...Go to the TSSAA or higher authorities... This thread has a negative connotation towards BA, towards the Nashville schools, and towards Tennessee athletics and education in general...I don't see why it is still up and running, nothing on this entire thread has been supported by facts, it's just opinions and accusations. I could start a thread about a school that I personally know recruits kids, but what good would it do? If I feel that it is harming the players, or the opponents that school plays against, I would go to the TSSAA, not post it on a website so thousands of people could speculate and bad mouth a school based upon what some annonymous poster has written.
  4. How about everyone gets off the Gossip train and goes to the TSSAA website or offices or calls or faxes or emails a complaint. Since you all know so much about the recruiting (which might very well take place) report it. Punish them if they are guilty, but don't bad mouth a school if they aren't.
  5. Chiefs have great runningbacks, big play receivers, a great tight end, great offensive line, good quarterback. If their D improves the sky is the limit for this team. They play in a tough division though, if they can make it out of there and get a good playoff position, they will be a force.
  6. If only 3 out of 200 kids are causing trouble these days...than that is great. (maybe only 3 got caught with their hands in the cookie jar) I would bet the kids at Goodpasture are better than most of the kids at most schools. The University of Arkansas has Cedric Cobbs at runningback, a man that has gotten convicted of DUI on more than one occassion. Ken Hamlin, a star on the team last year, also was kicked off the team for drinking, and later rejoined and now plays for the Seahawks. You would think after hearing this information, that the whole team was rotten. They also have guys like #43 Caleb Miller, a Bible Carryin' Christian, who is very softspoken and won't speak bad about anyone, and likes to keep to himself. Don't judge a team, a school, or a religion because of one or two kids...especially freshman. (No one that has posted has done that, I'm just saying...)
  7. Catholic is a private school. They are a small school, and the kids that go there do not have interest in sports...Football is the most glaring sport, where depth is a concern, more so than Basketball, where one really good player can carry you. One really good player in football is nice, but without an offensive line to block for them, it's not going to help that much.
  8. Stewart will probably work himself in to the starting line up. How do you see CBHS prospect David Ligon fitting in to things? Did he get redshirted last year? They told him before the Florida game to be ready, he would definitely get some snaps, as a true freshman. UT has really benefited from some of the Memphis players...Cedrick Wilson comes to mind as well as Mondre Dickerson and the LB Poe. Others like LaRon Harris would have made name for themselves.
  9. Briarcrest lost to BA 42-7...so the comparisons can only be drawn to their finishes. Briarcrest lost 4 straight championships and won their fifth. They were underdogs in the first one (lost to a Troy Fleming led BGA team). And the second and third losses to ECS were as close as can be...both teams were evenly matched. The fourth lost to BGA, they probably should have won... BA lost to MBA 8-7 when Ingle was a senior, I think MBA was a little better that year. I thought McCallie was also better the year that they beat BA. I thought last year BA was a better team. Perhaps this year will be different for the Eagles. How many silver balls does Franklin High have lately? I'd say BA would have whipped Franklin pretty good for the last few years..and that is coming from a nonbias observer. (I'm not going to make fun of BA, they beat my school 36-6 my senior year...)

Umm that wasn't the reason Title IX was established. 31 years ago, there weren't too many girls trying to play college football...they were having problems getting in to college...that is why it is part of the Education Amendments. Title IX also deals with handicapped individuals, would anyone have a problem if someone who was born a little differently tried out for a football team? Probably not.

You all have probably heard about the NFL forcing teams to interview more minority coaches. Johnny Cochran threatened to sue the NFL if they did not. What Mr. Cochran doesn't want to say is...there is nothing "legally wrong" with doing what the NFL was doing. I don't necessarily like it, and I completely see the point...but as Mr. Warren Sapp said, "These guys are billionaires, you can't tell them how to spend their money...they do what they want, when they want." The NFL recently fined the Detroit Lions owner for not interviewing more minority coaches, even though Mooch from SF was a shoe in to take the job. No one wanted to be interviewed cus they knew they would just be a number...consequently, the owner owes 200,000 to the NFL which will be given to different charities. I do believe their should be more minority coaches (there are some really good ones out there!) But I don't believe you should be able to tell people what they can or can't do, especially when it pertains to their money that they will be spending.

Opperman, Does your private university receive some sort of federal aide? If you receive Federal Aide in any nature, than you are bound by Title IX. Also the private university that you speak of is probably part of the NCAA, the NAIA, or another national association which probably has gender equity rules, that is why they follow it, not because of Federal Laws. Federal Laws only make you follow Title IX as a school if you are receiving federal funds...if you don't want to receive Federal Funds, then you don't have to follow the rule (There was a school in the 1980's, Grove City, PA I believe that challeneged this ruling) When I asked my principal in high school why a man couldn't join the volleyball team, he smiled and said this is a private school we are allowed to govern ourselves as we see fit (That's how they get by teaching religion). If you want to play volleyball, go to a public school. A school doesn't have to follow Title IX if they aren't receiving financial aide or if they are a private entity. That is why all universities, such as the Citadel have to admit women...yet national fraternities, do not. My fraternity openly states that we discriminate against women, but not against men of any color, race, religion, etc (we don't have to say that second part, but we do). Title IX is part of the Education Amendments of 1972...It was originally established so more women would be admitted to colleges and universities. http://www.dol.gov/oasam/regs/statutes/titleix.htm Another great example is Augusta National.
  13. This thread is pointless... haha east tennesseans talking about street ballin haha Jimmie Snap Hunter...the playground legend was better than anyone in this thread that has been mentioned.
  14. I'm very sorry to hear that...hope the boys are ok.

That is different, Guys have baseball...Girls don't play baseball, they play softball. Girls are built differently from guys. Many times the advantages lie in the fact that guys are bigger, stronger, and faster. Girls use smaller basketballs which means they have an easier chance to make a basket than guys do. They also do not tee off from the same spot men do. Girls should be allowed to play football, just as guys should be allowed to play volleyball. Their is no equivalent to those things for the other sex. I would rather have a bunch of girls playing flag football or something like that, but if they want to play football, let them. If it really bothers you, why don't you do something about it, if I wanted someone off the team, i'd let my helmet do the talking.

I don't have a problem with girls playing football. They can't play on the boys team if there is a girls team. A girls basketball player can't play on the boys varsity if their is a girls varsity. I have always wondered why some 6'3 skinny as a rail boy didn't try out for the volleyball team. They would have to be allowed to play...just as girls are allowed to play for wrestling and football teams. Please remember, private schools are different, they do not have to abide by Title IX and can do whatever they wish in regards to gender equity.
  17. I could also mention Texas...the mecca of the football gods. Having just gotten back from Texas, I can tell you that their public schools would destroy the privates by a landslide. Ask ELA, he's from Texas, he will agree with me on this.
  18. I wish I could say the same thing about Mississippi... But unfortunately the MS public schools will whip the private schools any day of the week down there. The best private school is probably Jackson Prep, a team that has really struggled lately against MUS, a decent but never great DII team. Moss Point, Brandon, McComb, Olive Branch and a few other publics such as Corinth will beat any of the privates. Arkansas also has better public than private schools. Little Rock Fair is a powerhouse in football. #4 Cedric Cobbs for Arkansas is a famous alum. West Memphis High Schools De'Arrius Howard, a RB for Arkansas who was considered one of the best runningbacks in the nation, also is a talented player from the public school ranks. Jonathan Adams, former ASU standout, and quite possibly the best player in the nation his senior year hailed from Osceola High School. Starting tailback for Memphis, DeAngelo Williams, was the best product in the state his senior year...also from a public school. I believe Williams made the all freshman team in Conference USA. The only private schools that are good occassionaly are Harding Academy in Searcy (had Jeb Huckaba for the Razorbacks) and a few of the small private schools. I could also talk about Barton High School, located in south arkansas. With an enrollment smaller than most schools, it consistently fields powerhouses. One year they had 22 boys on the team...but won the state title. They have gone years without losing games and play 3A ball with a 2A or A enrollment. If you want to talk about Georgia, just look at schools like Parkview and Valdosta. They can play with anyone, and I believe...they are public.
  19. There are much better football players in the state of Florida than in TN. I believe those 5A Florida schools are also larger than the 5A TN schools, thus giving them a better chance of getting top notch athletes. Florida, Georgia, Alabama, and possibly MS all have better football recruits year in, and year out then TN. I read today where UGA has only 19 out of state players out of 83 on their football team. UGA has whipped UT lately and might make another run at the SEC championship. (I don't even need to talk about what UF has done to us over the last 10 games in the series) I'm a private school supporter, and truly believe this entire argument is about sour grapes by the public school supporters. I believe that D2 should remain how it is (I can see that advantage and fully admit it) but do not believe that you can just tell some body to leave whenever you feel like it, because of advantages! Public schools have advantages such as free transportation, free education, etc. If the private schools had better representation on the TSSAA board, things might be a little different.
  20. The man hadn't always won two state titles... What about the years when his team was losing to teams 64-0? I know a kid that had 245 yards rushing and 4 touchdowns against Byrne. If he was such a great coach, I'm sure he could have done a better job than that.
  21. If you are going to look at wins and losses, and say the man is great that is fine. I look at how the individual treats his players. I can go on and on and on...become a plus member and I will gladly private message you and tell you some of the things but this is not the place, and I will not discuss it on here anymore.
  22. Byrne could compete against Harding, BCS, and BGA. But they would lose to every one of those teams even though they would be close games...they do not have the depth that the other schools have. 6 years ago Harding beat Byrne like 31-14, maybe more. That year Harding lost to ECS, 28-0 and 14-0 and lost to Briarcrest 32-16...so I think Byrne would have lost to ECS and Briarcrest. BGA won the state that year and had UT fullback Troy Fleming...so they would have whipped Byrne. 5 years ago Harding beat Byrne like 35-10. Harding lost to ECS that year 42-0 and Briarcrest by over 25. So I think Byrne would have lost to ECS and Briarcrest. That year BGA also won the state beating Briarcrest and yes I think BGA would have beaten Byrne. That was Troy Flemings last year, he led the state in rushing, and might have led the nation. 4 years ago Harding beat Byrne like 28-22. Byrne lost to ECS 35-0 that year and they lost to Briarcrest like 42-10. That year Byrne then lost to BGA 20-6. ECS won the state title over Briarcrest. 3 years ago Byrne moved to D2-A, and lost to ECS again I believe. They won the state title but I think they would have lost to ECS, Harding, and Briarcrest...all of those teams fielded very strong teams, and ECS won the state title again over Briarcrest in OT. 2 years ago ECS beat Bishop Byrne 3-0. Harding beat ECS, 14-7, and 7-0 and Briarcrest beat ECS 19-0...so yes I think Bishop Byrne would have lost to those teams. BGA lost to ECS 13-3 but beat Harding 16-6 and Briarcrest in the state championship so I believe BGA would have beaten Bishop Byrne. Last year ECS beat Bishop Byrne and Harding and Briarcrest beat ECS at some point. BGA beat Harding, and could have beaten Briarcrest, but Briarcrest won the state title in D2-AA. Yes I think Harding, ECS, Briarcrest, and BGA would have beaten Bishop Byrne. Byrne has great athletes, Charles Hampton, has gotten letters from some D1 schools, but their coach is horrible. That should put that debate to rest. Byrne is very good for their size, but they can't compete with the D2-AA schools...just as most of the D2-AA schools can't compete with the Super 7 in football. Just for your information, Ryan won the very first D2-AAA title in football. They have a new coach who will get his players ready, it just takes time.
  23. A lot of fairy tales take place in "a land far far away" Sheesh, it's just a story... McCallie is in Division II...I bet there are jokes about city folk amongst some of the country people...
  24. I can't believe the debate has hit this point. This board might need an offseason just like the sports have.
  25. You are correct Hoops, athletes do try hard, I was one, maybe not a D1 talent like yourself or trey, but I did practice and compete and could have played college football. I just do not feel sorry for athletes, when compared to students. The only reason I feel sympathy for them, is the rules about jobs, I believe they should have jobs...but that is opening up a whole nother can of worms.
