DeGain, who finished third in the heavyweight division at the 2005 NCAA Championships, works with the upper weight divisions and assists in recruiting for the Hoosiers. DeGain graduated from Indiana in 2005 after finishing his career with a 115-31 overall record over his four seasons. As a senior, DeGain finished the year 35-6 and placed third at the NCAA Championships to seal an All-American season. He ended his career ranked fifth on Indiana's all-time career wins list with 115 and became the third IU wrestler to capture a Midlands title. He also took second at the Big Ten Championships in 2005. As a junior, DeGain finished 28-8 on the season. His 28 victories were good for fourth on the team as he also went 17-3 in dual action that year. Of his 28 wins, nine victories were by fall, six were major decisions and one win was by technical fall. He turned in a first-place showing at the Northern Iowa Open and also qualified for the NCAA Championships after a third place finish at the Big Ten Championships. He came up just short of All-American status at the NCAA Championship after posting a 3-2 record at Nationals. At Clarkston High School DeGain was a Two Time Michigan High School State Champion Degain placed 2nd at the Cadet Freestyle World Championships..
  5. I don't think that would be a good idea, many of the USA tournaments have been low in numbers with one being cancelled. i think if anything see if you can go AAU. We have about 50 in the club and about 15 on the high school team who have AAU cards but only 1 with a USA card. most of the elementary and middle school kids from all over that would attend this event more than likely have an AAU card . Cost aau card: $14 USA card: $35. I think alot of kids will not pay an extra $35 to use the card only once. If the kids are going to spend extra money lets hope it is for concessions or shirts or something where the money will go towards Jacob's family. The TSSAA allows for competition during this time. Check and see if the tournament would be covered by them first.
  6. Didn't realize the date conflicted with the grand championships. Sorry

  19. Took some of my kids up ther on saturday and saw some good wrestling. Jake Young was impressive- beat trevor perry of Indiana ( sr. ranked 17th), was not in trouble the whole match. Had a great comeback against an opponent from the cumberlands - was down 5 points and then came back and beat him pretty bad. Cody Cleveland looked tough in his match against Indiana ( only match i saw him wrestle) 8 seconds left in a scramble he got hurt and sidelined him for the rest of the day. Hope he recovers quickly. Even though it was a hard fought match and tempers, elbows and i think i even saw a fist fly in the match , with 8 seconds left Cleveland was helped to his feet and he went to the line to finish the match ( could hardly walk) When the whistle blew the indiana wrestler just stood there and let the time run out. Classy act by the Coaches and wrestler from Indiana. UTC looked good and only list 2 seniors on their roster- should be real tough in a couple of years. On a side note: Indiana Head Assistant Coach Pat Degain ( 2X MI State Champ, NCAA ALL AMERICAN 3rd in 2005) will be at Wilson Central High School on May 1st and 2nd 2010. Cost: $40 - More details later. Coach Kramer
  20. what time will the hydration test be starting at Antioch on saturday?
  21. The problems with freestyle and greco in the state is that once the high school season is over, High school coaches cannot work with their kids. If they were able to keep thier rooms open and work freestyle and greco at home with their team the chances are that you would get more kids doing it. In Michigan where I came from, during the offseason you can have open mats and work with your kids as much as you want as long as you were doing freestyle and greco. The governing body(MHSAA) didn't have jurisdiction over freestyle and greco because they are not High school sports. I was wondering why TSSAA is able to have control over something that is not a high school sport.

    MTSU

The Middle Tennessee State University Blue Raider Wrestling team opened the 2009-2010 season at a Championship level. MTSU, a member of the National Collegiate Wrestling Association (NCWA--see http://www.ncwa.net), competed on October 31, 2009 at the Bear Invitational hosted by Mercer University in Macon, GA. The Blue Raiders placed 12 of 15 wrestlers in the top 4 of their respective weight classes including 1st place finishes by Hunter Adcock (Fr-125, Wilson Central), Tony Trulick (Jr-133, Berlin, PA), and Isaiah Bradley (Jr-197, Milton, GA). Finishing in 2nd place were Cory Watson (Sr-125, Lebanon), Dillon Kotsch (Fr-157, Fairview), and Jerrold Bumphus (Fr-235, Riverdale). The team finished first out of 8 teams with a team score of 54 points. Mercer University finished 2nd with 48 pts followed by Georgia Southern and Kennesaw State. Adcock began an impressive first collegiate tournament with an Injury Default over fellow teammate Cory Watson. Up 1-0 with 11 seconds left in the match (and a riding time advantage of 1:30), Adcock attempted to return Watson to the mat before he could achieve a 1-pt escape. In the process, Watson unfortunately landed wrong on his ankle, leaving the match with a high-ankle sprain. In the final match of the day, Adcock pinned Chris Scaife of Kennesaw State University in 4:08 to secure the title. Trulick pinned all three of his opponents in dominating fashion (1:29 over Qui Van, Georgia Tech, 1:42 over Austin Griffin, Mercer, and 0:51 over Parker Reed, Mercer). Due to his performance, Tony was given consideration for the Most Outstanding Wrestler, eventually losing out to Ben Brummel (184, South Carolina). Bradley is a returning NCWA All-American at the 235-lb weight class that decided to wrestle at 197 this season. After a tough week getting down to weight, he weighed in at exactly 197.0 lbs. But even with the struggle to make weight, Isaiah pushed through the tournament with the determination of a champion winning 3 matches to take the title. Bradley pinned Hunter Smith (Georgia Southern) in 4:38, had a major decision over Bryan Fredrick (Mercer) 13-3 and won a tough battle over Shaun Scruggs (Georgia Southern) 12-5 to take the title. Anthony Pierce (Jr-184, McGavok) found himself in the toughest weight class of the tournament losing 11-1 to MOW Ben Brummel of South Carolina after a 1st round bye, pinning Thomas Brady of Georgia Tech in 2:02, and losing by pinfall in the 3rd place match to Garrett Guy of Kennesaw State, who is a 2x NCWA National Qualifier. Strong performances were also displayed by Freshman Bryce Cates (149, Rock Hill, SC, 2-2) and Randall Jennings (165, Coffee County, 1-2) in their first collegiate tournament. The MTSU Blue Raiders next head to Orlando, FL on November 6, 2009 to compete in the UCF Knight's Brawl Duals vs. perennial national title contender Marion Military Institute (Marion, AL) and Georgia Southern University. The following day 14 wrestlers will compete in the University of Central Florida Open where MTSU looks for a Top-3 finish and another team trophy for the display case. --contributed by Bryan Knepper, MTSU Wrestling Coach
