  1. Macon 21 Sycamore 13...a hard earned win for the Tigers.
  2. Thanks for the support SEVEN. We're hoping so as well. I believe we've got the ship steered in the right direction. Jackets are idle this week, eh? That Purple and Gold "rebuilding year" team looks very good to me. Good luck on another championship run.
  3. Have to agree with most here and go with the Owls also. Amen Termite, "ball control O and great D does equal Wins" and Championships. Good luck to both teams. SC 28 DC 6
  4. I think(?) the Defense has been the weak link in this year's team so far? And it is kinda hard to answer the question "just how good are we"? We've given up alot of points in our first 3 games (albeit to excellent offensive teams, TC, FCS, and GP). I'm sure alot of folks have caught the scores on Friday Night Finals and thought blowout as usual...probably scored those 27 points each game (ironically?) against the opponents 2nd or 3rd strings. But that hasn't been the case at all. TC and FCS were fast starts for the Macon opponents (or slow, flat start for the Tigers depending on if your view point, glass is half full/empty, or the colors of your pom pom) where Macon gave up 21 point deficits only to come back beginning around the middle of the 2nd quarter to stem the tides and fight back to make them close 1 possession games late. Then turnovers (usually a pick 6 or fumble recovery for 6) that quickly puts points on the board for the Macon opponent that makes the game look not so close. And to go into half time tied at 27 with Goodpasture takes some doing and some playing also. Again turnovers in the 2nd half (this time) both deep in Cougar territory on Tiger potential scoring drives changed the game. One on the opening drive of the 2nd half at the GP 5 that could have resulted in a Tiger lead 34-27. Another on the GP 10. (no excuses here for Macon and certainly take nothing away from our opponents great efforts to make those plays and turn them into points). But also take nothing away from the effort we've seen from our Tigers to fight hard to make great and exciting comebacks and halftime ties with 3 traditional football championship contenders. I think we'll need to see 4 full quarters of solid, "turnover free" football before we can make an honest, accurate assessment. Should be a great game this week against the War Eagles. I predict another exciting game for the blue and white. Good luck to both teams. Tigers 27(haha) War Eagles 21.
  5. I agree Big Daddy. It may not always look good on the wins and losses columns, but to improve and grow I believe it helps if you play a tough schedule. I remember an LA squad that played a pretty tough schedule in '05 that seasoned them for a successful and amazing state championship...
  6. RBS opponents weren't 1. Trousdale County 2. Friendship Christian 3. Goodpasture. Perenial state championship contenders. I expect this year is no different. That's a pretty tough lineup right out of the gate for any team.
  7. Turnovers. One at the GP 5 yard line going in for the score on the opening drive of the 2nd half when the back was caught from behind...an intercepetion for a score (great run by the GP player by the way to put it in the endzone) from the MC 30 or 40? One more on another potential MC scoring drive at the GP 10 or so when the receiver coughed it up after a great reception. It was a great game overall by both offenses. Neither defense really stopped the other's offense from moving the ball effectively. An exciting game to witness on a beautiful football night. Good luck GP on the rest of your season. Tigers will get that win soon. Just gotta tighten up that defense.
  8. Congratulations Marion County on a big win tonight. I was very impressed with MC's heart and determination against Smith County and equally impressed with the win over Boyd Buchanon. Now comes the biggest test against the defending state champs. In my opinion, MC will have to control the ball and the clock to win this game. I've seen Alcoa this year also and it will take a monumental, mistake free game to come out with a W against the Tornadoes. But that's why we play'em. Good luck.
  9. Congratulations to the folks on the Creekbank! A hard fought game between two really good teams. The Jackets showed great heart. They hung tough and answered the bell to get this big, big win. Good luck the rest of the way.
  10. Congrats Owls and Owl fans...you've played some great ball lately. This should shake things up in the 1st round a little. Good luck next week.
  11. A pretty good game in the 1st half. MC Tiger defense played well, the offense moved the ball but just couldn't cash in when the opportunities were there. Give credit to some tough stands by the DC Tiger Defense. MC played a little too desperate in the 2nd and began turning the ball over. DC looked much better on offense in the 2nd half with much better line blocking to get the momentum rolling. The ground game looked pretty good tonight. Poteete is a good looking QB; a playmaker with good poise and control in the pocket. He's quite the threat with his feet as well. Very impressive. (I think more Chase Daniels than Tebow...) Congratulations Dekalb County Tigers on a fine season. Good luck in the weeks to come. Good luck MC Seniors in your future endeavors.
  12. Prediction time... Dekalb County - 38 Macon County - 6
  13. Thanks for the preview...I look forward to seeing the game. Dekalb fans have a safe trip up and see you at Pat Parker field.
  14. Dekalb County Fans, Haven't seen you guys play yet this season...Could you give us an idea of what offense the DC Tigers are running? And is Poteete running by design i.e. keepers, bootlegs, option?
  15. Macon County's offense has struggled all year for any kind of rhythm or consistancy. We average less than 6 points per game with a maximum of 13 in one game. The MC Tigers typically run either the I or the spread formation.
  16. I agree with you, Twins, the Tigers did come out with less than desirable effort. That was easy to see. And there's no doubt the coaches didn't prepare all week to begin the game in this manner. I was just stating an observation in another thread; the Tigers didn't have an answer for the spread option run by Sycamore. Now whether someone credits that to the Tigers being flat, Sycamore being effective on offense, or both is up to the observer. And yes we haven't held many teams to low scores. This can be credited to a lot of factors; turnovers mainly and lack of offensive production which leaves a defense on the field too long. But I do have to say, the coaches didn't do the defense any favors by going for it on 4th down, inside their own 50, midway through the 2nd quarter in only a two score game. Why put the defense on short notice, risk giving the War Eagles a short field to work with to make it a 3 score game, and put a struggling offense behind the 8 ball to now come up with 3 scores. That was not a sound decision. Punt the ball, play field position, hope to pin Sycamore deep, let the Defense play for a 3 and out, or maybe get a lucky break and force a turnover and give your own offense a short field to work with and make it a 1 score game. Sorry, Twins, a little venting there...Hopefully the boys still have some buy in left and will finish the season on a positive note, and by that not necessarily a win, but to finish strong with pride and their heads held high.
  17. Sycamore's run game is a good one from what I saw last week against Macon. An option and triple option attack out of various formations of the shotgun and spread that the MC Tigers had no answer for. The QB is a good runner and decision maker; the backs run hard and with a purpose with good line blocking. In my opinion harder to stop than conventional run styles because you have to play disciplined assignment football on Defense. Plus you have to worry about the QB running the ball and of course play action. The War Eagles give opposing defenses something to think about. This should be a good game. Good luck to both teams.
  18. Well said Longhaul...at times there in the 1st half I couldn't tell if I was at the football game or Ringling Brothers...
  19. Greenbrier takes this one at home. Macon County continues to struggle putting up points on offense. The defense had a hard time stopping the spread option attack of Sycamore last week (27-0 at the half). The Tiger D is much better at playing the run out of conventional offenses and play styles. If the Bobcats mix up their run game with some misdirection and a little option they should be in good shape. Greenbrier-28 Macon Co-7
  20. Prediction time for one of the most important games this week...I think both teams will be up and ready to play a tough regional matchup... White House-31 Dekalb Co. -28 Good Luck to both teams
  21. That's true enough Smack, it's just strange that someone should mention "not allowed to catch a punt" because that was exactly what went through my mind watching the play. The punt had actually been kicked beyond the coverage so there was plenty of time to field the ball, it's just the body language of the returner said he was never going to attempt to touch the ball. Probably just my imagination /dry.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="
  22. Plus, they won't "let" him catch a punt!!... Songwriter, can this be true? You know, I watched #25 back deep for a Station Camp punt and that is exactly what it looked like. A high deep punt that was catchable/returnable, and should have been returned, yet #25 made no move to field the ball, as if he'd been told not to touch it...? Very strange
  23. This could really be a good game. Poteete will have to be on and have a great game along with error free, no turnovers from the rest of the team. Agree with Catfish, the White House run game will be hard to stop. The Tigers may have to outscore the Devils to win. Should be a dandy if Dekalb is up, which they should be playing White House.
  24. Absolutely right Bisonmom! Mr. Reed is a weapon all by himself. He made it a long field for us all night. 95+ yards on at least three occasions, and made us start from the 20 on almost all possessions. He along with Jared White from Trousdale County may be the finest kickers in the state.
