  1. After a disappointing loss for the owls, I expect them to rebound and have a comfortable win at home, especially since Briarcrest's QB is hurt. I think MUS should be able to put up a good amount of points against this Briarcrest defense. My prediction: 31-14 MUS
  2. This game is probably one of the most exciting games to attend in west TN every year. Unfortunately, I will not be able to make it this year, but the game will be televised on Fox Sports South on the "Yall vs Us" series. This should be a close matchup between two very good teams. MUS has an excellent offense that mostly relies on the passing game, and has a sub-par defense this year mostly due to A LOT of injuries ( they have the most sophmores I have ever seen start on an MUS team). CBHS has been known for their stout defense, especially against the run. From what I have seen of their offense, they don't appear to put up many points, and they rely on their ground game more than passing. I expect this one to come down to the wire, but if MUS can keep their QB protected, I think MUS might be able to pull it off. 24-21 MUS
  3. In the West region, it'll be a toss up for the number 1 spot between MUS/CBHS/BCS. All three seem to be very equal this year. This Friday CBHS plays Briarcrest and MUS plays SBA. Everything will be a little clearer after this Friday once these guys play.
  4. 28-14 MUS. WSHS has definitely improved but it seemed MUS got the best of them in the 2nd half with depth and coaching. MUS was the better of the two young and inexperienced teams.
  5. .. and here come the Ensworth kids with their predictions of winning a state championship this year. It never gets old.
  6. Didnt want to start a new thread, but MUS is winning 21-0 at half against Millington. They look very good.
  7. MUS should still be first in the west, if not the division, they technically lost 18 of their starters, but a lot of those starters split playing time with younger guys who played just as much. The only thing they will be lacking, is that big play threat they have always had. They are going to be solid like always on D. If they can find someone who can make the big plays on O this year i have a feeling you will be seeing them at state.
  8. I think your talking about number 3? He isnt the starting tailback but he definitely will be rotating in and out this year. I know he was at MUS in 9th grade but i dont know if he went to MUS in 7th or 8th grade. He very possibly could have gone to Whitehaven middle, but i dont why that matters where someone went to middle school, a lot of kids arent even fully grown when they graduate highschool, let alone middle school.
  9. South Panola from MS won 5 in a row in MS largest classification from '03-'07. They barely lost in the title game in '08(winning streak snapped at 89) but then went on and won it again in '09 but with one loss being to mus early in the season.
  10. From what i hear he is doing very well and has been looking good at practices. Right now he is in the mix for a starting job on the line.
  11. Heres some facts for you. Almost half of the 22 starters for MUS went to PDS(a feeder elementary school that costs more than MUS now) and 3/4 of the starting 22 went to a private school before MUS. And by the way, if you play a varsity sport, you can only get financial aid. So no one on the team goes to school for completely nothing.... But after saying that I just want to wish luck to both teams. Millington is a fine program and have always competed at a very high level. This will be no easy win for either team.
  12. Ehh i agree that MUS should win this one, but i dont think they will run them off the field or anything. It'll be a very interesting scrimmage to watch though. I think this scrimmage will help answer some questions about MUS and whether they still are the best team around. But for now im not so sure. I have a lot of respect for Whitehaven and no matter what happens in the scrimmage i think they are going to have a great season.
  13. They probably aren't "up in arms" about it because the family is moving for work related reasons. Even the other Maryville poster said so. And like it was stated earlier the kid is only 5'10 and is not even a D-1 prospect, if they were going to recruit, I would think they wouldnt have to look very far in Memphis to find some huge offensive lineman from an inner-city school.
  14. This will be very good for MUS then if this is true, they already have potentially 3 D1 prospects on their o-line and to add another will definitely help MUS's young offense, especially for the new QB. So is the family just moving their for work purposes?
  15. Just FYI here is an article about the MUS-CBHS game this upcoming fall about how it will be televised. http://www.commercialappeal.com/news/2010/jul/19/mus-cbhs-football-game-oct-22-be-televised/
  16. i posted this earlier in another thread but.. Last year they lost everybody except one person on defense and they ended up having one of the best defenses. This year they will be returning 2 starters and another 3 or 4 that rotated in and out with the starters, so i think they will still be good on defense. Offensively, the only big question they have really is the QB position. Itll be between a senior and junior next year, both different style QB's(the senior is more of a runner and he's only about 5'11 and the junior is a more pro-style qb that is about 6'4 with a strong arm). Their O-line will probably be one of the best lines they have ever had, atleast they have the most potential to be, and they got some good inside receivers this year at both slot receiver and tightend but they dont have that big play receiver threat like they have had the past couple of years. at runningback they will be inexperienced but have some great talent. so i dont know if the will go undefeated again because of how difficult their schedule is, but if they can stay healthy i will be very surprised if they are not playing for the state championship next year.
  17. They still have a much tougher schedule than anyone in their division, probably even in the state... SP alone should be enough. They also play another perennial power from MS called Olive Branch. Oh, they also play White Station the defending 6a state champs again(they beat them by 20 last year without their starting QB). And actually Millington is usually a pretty good team, last was just a down year for them. CBHS always has a solid team too... i agree that yall's "region" games may be tougher but i can assure MUS has the tougher schedule
  18. "the class of the division"... no offense to any of the middle and east TN teams, but until another team can prove otherwise, the road to the state title is through Memphis. It seems like MUS doesn't get a whole lot of respect on these boards, considering they've won the past 4 out of 6 state titles and are currently on a 26-0 winning streak.
  19. At the highschool level, it's not about the talent. It's about the coaching. I think last years MUS proved that. South Panola should have rushed for 500 yards in that game, just look at all the d-1 talent they had and how much bigger they were. MUS ran a 3 man defensive front and their average d-line height and weight was at most 5'10 185lbs. But yet they held the 6A MS state champs to only 19 points. Im not saying Ensworth has bad coaching, it's just that he hasnt proven himself AT Ensworth YET. Only time will tell if Ensworth can bring it all together.
  20. I know BA will be good, but I still think MUS is the team to beat. Last year they lost everybody except one person on defense and they ended up having one of the best defenses. This year they will be returning 2 starters and another 3 or 4 that rotated in and out with the starters, so i think they will still be good on defense. Offensively, the only big question they have really is the QB. Itll be between a senior and junior next year, both different style QB's. Their O-line will probably be one of the best lines they have ever had. They got some unbelievable talent at receiver and runningback so i think they should be alright.
  21. I dont know about MBA, but I think MUS has about 105 kids in their senior class. Thats not very big.
  22. ^^ theres no truth to this. I dont know where this rumor started, but i can guarantee you this isnt true. The MUS players are looking forward to proving that it wasnt just a "fluke" that they won last year.
  23. Aren't they losing a TON of talent this year? BA should be up there. Speed to burn. Yes, but they lost their entire defense last year except for one player and everyone thought their defense wasnt going to be very good. They ended up being one of the best defenses in the division. Like the saying goes " we dont rebuild, we reload"
  24. I think MUS has a chance a 3 peat. Im not sure they will go undefeated again because they play south panola and olive branch again, but I think they should be the favorites along with Ensworth, especially if MUS beats at least one of those two teams.
