Clinton didn't have the right kind of players for McKamey's offense to work. Just like Campbell County doesn't have the right kind of athletes for Penberton's offense to work at Campbell County.
Since it doesn't really matter who Clinton hires as the next head coach because no matter who they hire, they won't win any games or be competitive......why is there such an interest in this thread? 🤔 There's a lot of people taking interest in a team that they don't like or support.
That's not living in the past, that's just stating facts. Clinton hasn't been consistently good since Gaylor left.
My point is Clinton could have successful teams again with the right coach. Will it happen overnight? Of course not. But it can happen.
My 3 years at Clinton were 1990 (7-3) 1991 (8-3) 1992 (14-1). With a good coach, you can win at Clinton. We have had some good coaches over the years, but after Gaylor left, that is when Clinton started going downhill. But we have not always been a terrible program.
The right coach and coaching staff could turn Clinton around. And when Clinton is winning, the fans will come out and fill the stands.
I'm sure he is a nice guy, and I have nothing against him. I just feel like Clinton could hire a much better coach. Clinton needs a coach and coaching staff that can coach up players. We are not always blessed with the best talent or freakish athletes. We need someone that can take average players and make them better. I'm not 100% positive that Ellison is that guy. Just my opinion. I'll hang up and listen.
Powell beating SC would not be an upset in my opinion. Powell is ranked higher in the state and have played a much tougher schedule than SC. I believe Powell is battle tested and SC is not. The only thing that may slow down Powell is if Wheeler is injured and doesn't play, then it might be a different outcome. But a healthy Powell wins 35-14
I would put LC with Sevier Co, Heritage, William Blount, and possibly West.
I would put Central, Halls, Powell, Karns, Clinton, and Campbell County together.
But I guess we shall see how this unfolds.
