  1. Halls won 79-29...score 24-2 after 1st, 48-14 at half
  2. 1st of all, I think Lake County has proven that they are the best team...not saying they can't be beat, but they are at least 10 points better even on a bad night. I have not seen UC, but I would have guessed Greenfield was second. As far as Halls always being bad, it has been a while since they have competed, but they are better this year. They have one senior who joined 4 games in to season and hasn't played since she was a sophomore, one junior who didn't play as a sophomore, one freshman and the rest are sophomores. when they decide to play defense they are not terrible. They have to get better offensively, but are getting there. have one girl averaging about 22 in district play and another averaging about 15...others have to come along to help. still too may turnovers like last night in 1st half against South Fulton. Score was 27-6 at half...final was 52-49 with Halls shooting a three at buzzer to tie. If Halls would have pressured Trenton more they may have beaten them by more. They could have beaten Humboldt but have no size inside to rebound. Anyway, not saying Halls is ready to compete this year against the big dogs, but give them time. Sophomore vs sophomores Halls is pretty decent. It's those pesky upperclassmen that do the damage. Once Halls fixes the turnover issue and gets a little more consistent on defense, they will be competing against the mid tier folks. It is hard to change a mindset of losing, but they already have more wins this year than the last 2 yrs combined.
  3. Are people seriously ignorant enough to think that DC is not breaking the rules? All I can say, better warn the coaches to watch what they say, because everything they say and do is being scrutinized. Of course, they are not the only school that does it. All of the bigger schools go after the smaller school athletes offering more opportunities and exposure. It has been happening for years, but in the past it may have one athlete. Now these schools are just having open gym and open enrollment which allows any athlete with no high school athletic record to come play at their school. Or you can be like some athletes and lie about where you live. It has gotten to the point that some high school coaches will do anything to win. What happened to do what's right. Is it fair to the kids who live in the right place and follow the guidelines that they lose out to the kid who has no ties to their school system except for sports? Schools can't say it is for academic reasons, because all kids have opportunities through online classes. It would have to be for athletic purposes that kids transfer.
  4. wow...someone is quick...apparently you missed where i said that tssaa did nothing about the fact that nearly every school near dyer county had/has players being recruited by your coaches/parents/boosters/_________(fill in with whomever you like)... the secret has been out. yes, usj recruits...compare to dyer county...get it? no...better luck next time...see, i am complaining about how dc "steals" players from other schools, which may have cost that school a chance to have more success...has it done any good...no...just like you complaining about an umpire's call...you can't do anything about it...it happened, today is a new day...quit whining and support the team...
  5. looking at the video...to me, it looks like the guy started out in front of the box and the umpire called it immediately...perhaps someone alerted the umpire to the situation, like so many fans like to do...just because a visible line is not seen, that doesn't mean it is not there...when coaches don't draw batter's boxes you leave it to the discretion of the umpires...no one wants the umpires deciding the outcome of the game, but if the umpire ignores the call, then it costs NS their seeding...so who would be done wrong then? Right or wrong call....don't know...evidence is weak either way...if fans get too worked up over it, you might reveal more than you wanted...don't think you want TSSAA investigating too closely at DC...of course, they haven't had a problem with DC being the home of the West Tennessee All-Stars...the district MVP was dropping his sister off at Halls everyday on his way to DC...don't blame the athlete...blame the school system...good thing this is a baseball thread or I would mention others...not sure if USJ has more athletes from different counties...it's bad when public schools in west tn are worried their best athletes will be recruited by another public school....oh wait, this was about umpires...stupid move on their part...their kids will never get a scholarship to DC now! good thing missouri is close
  6. Halls point guard started the game but wasn't trying very hard so the coach pulled her. She is the main ball handler, but the teams were even on turnovers. Halls just couldn't buy a bucket...the same in the LC game. If Halls would have hit open layups and jump shots in the paint against LC they would have been leading LC 10-2, instead it was 18-0 before Halls ever scored. Halls girls are fighting hard, but it is hard to break a losing tradition, especially when you play in the toughest district in the state...hands down. Halls is better than last year though sometimes scores don't indicate it. The second half against Greenfield was much better. Yes a lot of players got to play a lot for Greenfield, but they always run deep. THe end of the bench got in with about 5 minutes left. Game was out of reach, but starters were there in the 3rd and Halls was down by 24 at half and lost by 25. Halls could have easily lost by 50 like they did against LC, but they kept fighting. Halls doesn't have the deep bench with skilled athletes. The end of Halls' bench is first time players that are juniors or freshmen who played one year of junior high on the jv. They are having to practice against boys just to have someone to scrimmage. Everyone is trying hard, but wins will come hard. Now I'll go ahead and tell ya, if shots are fallin for us, we can be dangerous, but we're just not a strong shooting team. We force turnovers, we just have to capitalize on them. No one should ever take success for granted, because you never want to be the one to get upset by taking a team too lightly.
  7. Halls went 2-1 at scrimmage day...beat West Carroll and Bruceton...lost by one to East Hickman
  8. what does politics have to do with student makeup? that's demographics. and yes, there are some kids going to halls that are originally from ripley just like some of ripley's people are from halls...or even crockett or haywood. let's look at records...the teams that ripley has beat have 4 wins total....three are from one team...bolivar...which has lost it's last three. when is the last time ripley has stepped two classifications to play a superior team? step up one and go play henry co. i think you could expect the same that liberty got...not so good going up. it's easy going down, being the big dog...not so easy when you're supposed to lose...of course, you can stay where you are and beat up on teams that have a tradition of losing and say you are sooooo much better, but then when it comes to your football region, tradition is still there. Dyersburg, Crockett, haywood, and covington are always better...dyer co...now you have to watch out for them. covington is down right now, but you still have to be wary of them...so how much better are you when you play your own people....traditionally not that successful. halls and other small 1A schools don't have the luxury of scheduling smaller weak schools...not as many to choose from. see your athletes still get what they deserve regardless of their record...if they are good enough, they will be seen. luckily ya'll have enough exposure playing powerhouse programs that your guys get seen....not because you are a powerhouse. anyway, i can argue, not pout, about this all day. good luck.
  9. it's easy to pick on people a third your size...isn't it? it's like a high school kid picking on a elementary kid. the fight has never been fair. any time a school has 3 times the number of students, they are going to have more to choose from. and if Halls wasn't treated like the red-headed step-child maybe they, with the same number of students, could compete with big ole powerful Ripley. But when the athletes are fighting not only numbers but bureaucracy, it makes it difficult. and to bring athletes into the equation that would be stars no matter where they were is ludacris. that isn't the standard for ripley...i'm shocked that you didn't mention the star baseball players from ripley. it's true that the same caliber athlete has a better opportunity to be seen at a larger school, but that doesn't mean they are less of an athlete. you should have 3 athletes to Halls 1...oh wait you do...so...next time you say maybe we should drop down to 1A and play Halls schedule and you'll win state...try it, but remember you have to get rid of 1/3 of your athletes...not the bench warmers, but the starters...halls can keep what they have. then matchup. oh wait...in your opinion...halls would be ripley's bench warmers. must stink getting beat by one of the worst teams in west tn over the past decade...and no offense the players didn't consider it to be a scrimmage until they lost. players hate to lose. coaches hate to loose. oh next time you feel like running your mouth remember what it felt like to get hit in it like this past friday. ya'll were the team to win the region and you couldn't even score. maybe you can have some luck with covington because so far you're o-fer going up 51. and who has ever heard of a purple tiger? seems kinda soft to me...
