  1. Who'll be coaching at Covington next year? Those people up there get "hot" over losing!
  2. I'll be hard pressed to say that anybody is worse than the Munford team I saw the other night. I mean 21 points in less than a minute! The picture in the Commercial Appeal said it all. "No Mas!"
  3. Wasn't aware that the actual numbers were that high. If that's the case, it's a nobrainer. Munford's gonna be in for a longgggggg year. On the other hand, we've made some strides! Roll Trojans Roll!!!
  4. Felt sorry for the young men from Munford. No contest from the get go! I'm gonna say it again Mark...I have a hard time seeing what we get out of this type game. You talk about the money..but we only get it every other year. How would that compare if we got someone else and split the gate over a 2 year period? Anyway, you know my position. I just can't feel good about a win like tonight.
  5. Just keep your eye on the progress I forsee. Call it a "vision" if you will. Wooddale fell tonight. I know a little something about this game.
  6. One huge difference in the Melrose program as compared with the last 10 years or so is that the Wildcats miss their old D coordinator. I believe his name was Matthews (might be wrong here). I do know that the Melrose D was something to see, year in and year out. They miss him....and it shows!
  7. As you look at Melrose's schedule, I can certainly see where you are coming from. The wild card factor in my prediction is how the Orange Mound community is reacting to the L's? Everyone knows of the tradition there and the demands on the coaching staff are enormous. I do think however, that the kids there will set aside the "talk" and will continue to improve. I still believe that beginning with the second half of the season, you will see a vastly improved Melrose team.
  8. Solve that problem by reporting the problem. There are specific guidelines that prevent players transfering and using an aunt's, etc address. Custody has to have changed and been in place for a year for eligibility. Don't fuss about it. Remember the old adage that says "Evil flourishes when good men do nothing!" A good rule is to just follow the rules and do the right thing....then there's never a cause to worry.
  9. Hope that Munford still has a "killer" band. Whoever is in charge does a heck of a job. Should be a big crowd, knowing the size of that band. Think it is about 200 or so and know parents, grandparents, etc. will be there for their show. Imagine that will be the most entertaining part of the evening. As for the football, the only question is "by how many?"
  10. Certainly hope not. Hopefully the defense will accept the challenge to make it "4 in a row...no score! Should be a running clock sometime in the third quarter.
  11. The outcome of the M and M Bowl was decided as soon as the ink dried on the contract renewing the series..Same outcome Trojans 2W's and a payday - Cougars 2L's and a payday!
  12. Had an opportunity to see Melrose against CBHS. Will tell you that Melrose will continue to improve over the first half of the season. The second half of the season will see a typical Melrose football team...Quickness, and the ability to score from anywhere on the field. Only weakness again is the kicking game..Has cost them dearly (as you well know) over the past 10 years. Look for Melrose to come "roaring" out of the gate come playoff time..Wouldn't be surprised to see them make a deep run in November.
  13. Rob pointed out on another thread a couple of facts that,I guess I had forgotten...and that is that the Millington Srs. were in the fourth grade the last time Munford won this game. Also, and I had forgotten, Munford has not scored on us in the last 3 years! Thanks for going to the history books Rob. Now..for the game itself. As I said about our game with Bartlett, they will not be able to "run" with us...They couldn't and neither will Munford! I've always had somewhat of a disagreement with Mark as to the importance of this game, but both sides feel the need for it...so let's play ball. Look for our speed to literally kill Munford and I think defensively we have a great chance for making it "Four in a row-No score!"
  14. I expect the trend to continue. Ho Hum
  15. If receivers are open, we have to get the ball to them. We didn't..Passing game is extremely suspect in my mind. Don't want to get into a position where defenses load the box and take away the run game because we're not getting the ball to our receivers.
  16. S.Panola comes to town with one thing on their minds...REVENGE!...And they get it...BIG!! Any team that put 65 on a Rush Propst coached team (Colquitt Co.) can PLAY!! Look for Panola to score quickly and often. Their version of the Wildcat will be impossible for a smaller MUS squad to stop. Panola in a big way.
  17. I wasn't criticizing our offensive line play..I was simply pointing out that Bartlett is significantly bigger than MUS defensively (up front)..Bartlett stunted a great deal and one of the reasons Brighton was so successful was that their OL gave the qb plenty of time to throw. Hopefully our offensive line will be able to pick up stunts when necessary and backs will be able to fill when needed. Still need to bring our "A" game. Roll Trojans!!!!
  18. Had an opportunity to see Bartlett against Brighton. Great looking linemen! QB has average speed and does not have much of an arm. Good Running backs though. (Big, Big, Big!!!). Offensively Bartlett is going to pound the football, running between the tackles. Ballgame will be decided on the basis of if we can stop their run. If they hold the football 5 and 6 minutes at a time, we will have problems. Our offensive linemen will have to have made some progress from 2 weeks ago. One big difference in our favor..We can outrun Bartlett offensively and defensively. Speed vs a big physical football team..Should be interesting. Hope we bring our "A" game. Roll Trojans!!!!
  19. I agree to a point...however, Alcoa and Maryville has shown us different in the past years. If I'm not mistaken, W.Station, Ridgeway, East, Hamilton, and Melrose are our only city champions. Of the multiple classes, we've not fared well at Vandy or MTSU.
  20. Not exactly the "Game of the Week"..except in Tipton County. Neither program is going in a positive direction so predicting a winner is difficult. Based on the "word", I look for the Chargers to win this in a low scoring affair. I'll be very interested as we will see the Cougars in a few weeks. Not exactly shivering though. JMO
  21. You zeroed in on one thing...you hydrate yesterday for today..Also one little thing, no over the calf socks in the early going. The thin strand of elastic over the calf will be a MAJOR factor in cramping. Generally, though cramps are a result of improper hydration. One way to check is the color of urine. (Yellow...too little water-Clear, body cells are properly hydrated). Now...check the yammering! You people have one heck of a coach! Back off, give him time and you will be proud of what he does for and with the young men at HCHS!
  22. CBHS got a little too cute and almost blew this one...shuttle pass INSIDE with the clock at 6:50 and Melrose with no timeouts and down by 2 scores. Almost outcoached themselves on this one!
  23. Only one problem as far as I can see....QB's lack of an arm! Know we have a young one in the wings with ability but needs to develop some confidence. Not trying to be a downer...however, if we don't improve with the passing game, defenses are going to fill the box and make the run game much more difficult. Early yet, however, we've got to improve dramatically with the play action passing game. JMO Go Trojans!!!
