  1. Congratulations to Lake Co. and Greenfield on outstanding seasons. Should be an exciting game Tuesday night. In addition to playing for the region title, Humboldt will play in its first sectional since 1985. Viking fans can listen to Tuesday's game on The Victory 93.7 FM. Paul and Vic will also have the game on 95.1 FM in Weakley County.
  2. Bolivar beats Milan, 55-42. Milan led 22-19 at the half, but Bolivar outscores the Bulldogs 36-20 in the second half. The Tigers play Covington in the semifinals on Tuesday at 7:45 p.m.
  3. Just heard Humboldt beat Lake Co., 58-56.
  4. HALF - Gibson Co. 53, McNairy 34 Heather Butler has 25 points.
  5. Looking forward to four exciting quarterfinal games tonight. Two of the area's all-time winningest coaches square off in Dyer. Coach Russell and Coach Lott have combined for more than 1,500 career wins. McNairy has won three of the last four meetings, dating back to 2005. Haywood and Bolivar renew their rivalry, marking their 12th meeting in five years. Bolivar swept the Lady Tomcats this season - 69-48 on Dec. 5 in Brownsville, 50-34 on Jan. 9 in Bolivar. The Lady Tigers have won four straight in the series. Haywood has not won in Tiger Country since 2006. Obion Central enters with a two-game losing skid, marking their first back-to-back losses since March 2006. Meanwhile, the Lady Tigers are celebrating their first district title since 1987. They meet for the first time since November 2006. Westview and Liberty have already played twice this season. They split - Westview 65-51 on Nov. 28, Liberty 51-43 on Feb. 6. Both games were in Martin. Westview has lost only one region quarterfinal game this decade. Liberty is looking for its third semifinal berth in school history.
  6. 14A wins three tonight, with Gleason carrying the 13A banner to the semifinals. Congratulations to Bradford, Dresden, West Carroll and McKenzie on their successful seasons. Two GREAT games set for Saturday night in Trenton. First up is Gleason vs. Greenfield, the Weakley County battle between #4 and #8 in Class A. The teams split during regular season play, with each picking up a win on their home court - Gleason 39-34 on Nov. 23, Greenfield 48-39 on Jan. 18. The latter snapped Greenfield's 15-game losing streak to the Lady Bulldogs. Second will be Lake Co. vs. Humboldt. The Lady Falcons swept the regular season series - 82-65 at Tiptonville on Dec. 8, and 59-44 at Humboldt on Jan. 19. The district champion and #3-ranked club has won 18 consecutive games. Humboldt is on a bit of a winning streak, as well. The Lady Vikings have won 8 of their last 10 games, since losing to Lake Co.
  7. Congratulations to these 15 young ladies! Each are well-deserving finalists. Particularly proud for two local players, Heather Butler and Chassidy Fussell.

  16. Congratulations to the four teams who won tonight. Went 3-for-4, missing my prediction of Peabody over Bradford. The Lady Red Devils played well (had some foul trouble late), but Peabody still gave them a fight. Just for fun, seeing how close/far I get: Lake Co. over Bradford by 11 Greenfield over Humboldt by 4
  17. Agreed, Greer is a great player. Probably a better fit at a smaller mid-major school like Peay. IMO, Xavier was the better player. Scoring stats are comparable (Hansbro 27.8 PPG in his senior season, Greer 27.4). Edge to Hansbro in rebounding, though (14.6 vs. 9.0). As far as the team - if they finish #1 in 13A, will probably beat Halls/Peabody by 5-10 points. But Humboldt, Union City or Lake Co. will likely end their season in the regional semifinals.
  18. My picks: 1) Gibson Co. 2) Obion Central 3) Westview 4) Haywood
