  1. Obviously the % was meant to be a 5, sorry.
  2. No commentary here just a statement of facts. The combined records of the teams in each Quad in 5A. Quad 1: 54-26 Quad 2: 58-22 Quad 3: 45-35 Quad 4: 53-27
  3. White County has a great deal of respect for Cleveland. We need a huge crowd and atmosphere like was on hand last night to witness the end of the 17 game streak to Cookeville. 13-0 victory was an outstanding effort and a sweet win! This is the first home playoff game in school history. The record to date is 0-6. That said, this team has changed the perception of White County football. It should be an exciting night with two excellent teams playing a playoff game on Dee Harris Field in Sparta!
  4. I tried to tell you guys White County had at least a chance of beating Cookeville and finishing second in their district. After tonight's 13-0 win over the Cavs the 17-game losing streak is officially over against the Warriors arch-rival and district foe! No matter what Quad or who the Warriors play in the playoffs this season is a resounding success!
  5. This was the first 8-win season since 1980. However the 8th win that year was in the Industrial Bowl. The last 8-win regular season was 1972. The 5-0 regular season home record was the first undefeated home record since 1970. The Warriors finish the regular season as the #1 defense in points allowed! The team gave up only 112 points this season and had 3 shutouts the most in a season since 1980. If indeed the team hosts a playoff game it will be the first time hosting in history. The team's playoff all-time playoff record is 0-6. he back to back playoff seasons is only the second time in school history the school has went in back-to-back years.
  6. I did not think the crowd was bad last week but would love to see the Maroon maniacs at every game! This week everyone needs to be there to give the Warriors even more of a home field advantage. The team is 4-0 at home and needs the support. Cookeville has a great football team and stopping a streak that has reached 17 years will be a tough chore. It will be an exciting game because it means more than most years. Of course last year the game decided the District title but was so early in the season no one really knew it at the time. A great game last year won in the final minute 21-14 by the Cavs. Looking forward to a huge record setting crowd Friday night.
  7. I have lived under different playoff systems for many years and to me this one is the best ever! It is exciting and fair. I like the the wildcards because it gives some teams a chance that otherwise would have none. I have not been associated with the state's powerful teams and at the schools I have closely affiliated with, both were helped by this format. Before this the football program was for all intents and purposes dead. Jackson County and White County had enjoyed little success under the old system. The split into 6 divisions gave those schools a chance to play with other schools more closely resembling them. I don't mind playing with larger schools in the district as long as they can play with similar schools when the playoffs arrive. It is not perfect but as someone who has been around TSSAA football for over 30 years I hope they keep it as it is!
  8. The streak is at 17 for good reason so it is no surprise Cookeville will be favored. Cookeville has some great athletes and are well coached. Neither team is where they want to be as a program but both should be proud of the direction in which they are heading. It is a great game for the Upper Cumberland to close the regular season.
  9. No one here seems to give White County (7-2) even a remote chance of winning at home vs. Cookeville (6-3).
  10. I think White County respects Cookeville and Coach Maynord. Coach Maynord was the head coach at White County for four years back in the 80's. Meanwhile, Coach Houser was an assistant at Cookeville for four years before coming to White County last season. So lots of stories are interwoven between these two programs. The fact that Cookeville has won 17 straight in the series and that the school is more than twice the size of White County High School and is expected to win this game easily is just the facts of the series. Cookeville is the perennial champion of this district. A rivalry is not a rivalry if one team wins the game every year, so White County is an upstart program with miles to go to reach the level where Cookeville's program resides. That being said the culture of White County football is changing. Coach Houser has instilled a work ethic and a vision that has the players and the community buying in. After an 0-4 start in his initial season the team is 11-5 since including 7-2 this season heading into this game. Hopeful that a huge crowd will come out to see this year's game and that it is well played and that both teams are injury free at the end of the night. It is the most combined wins (13) between the 2 teams coming into this game in history! From a White County perspective here are a few interesting notes about the football program: * The streak: Cookeville has won 17 straight in the series. Last White County win: 21-13 in 1995. * White County has 7 wins for first time since 1987 (White County coach in 1987 was current Cookeville coach Jimmy Maynord). The 7 wins through nine games is a first since 1972. * The last time White County won 8 games in a season was 1980, counting an Industrial Bowl victory over Goodlettsville. The last time 8 or more wins happened in a regular season was 1972 (9-1). * With a win White Country will host the first playoff game in school history. The school's all-time playoff record is 0-6. * White County will make back-to-back playoff trips for only the second time in history. The only other time was in 2009 and 2010 when different rules allowed a 1-9 Warrior team in 2009 to advance. * White County offense has scored 244 points, the most in a season since 1982. * White County's defense is currently 2nd in TSSAA in 5A football in points allowed behind District foe Rhea County. Rhea County has allowed 111 points in 9 games and White County 112. * Coach Matthan Houser's 11 wins, so far, over a 2-year period is the most wins over that time frame at White County since 1986-87. Those teams went 4-6 in 1986 and 7-4 in 1987. The last time a new coach won more in his first two seasons was Don Farley in 1980-81 when the teams won 13 (8-3 in 1980) and (5-5 in 1981). * A win would give White County a perfect 5-0 record at home, the first undefeated home season since 1970.
  11. There are ways to keep a score from embarrassing high school students. Coaches that do not see that are in the wrong profession. You do not have to tell a player not to go hard. You do it by letting the clock run and then running plays that are not designed to go the distance. You can control a score from getting in the 60's on almost every occasion.
  12. White County can still finish runner-up in District 6. If they finish with same number of wins as Oak Ridge I think they will finish ahead of Oak Ridge even if a wild card. If they finish 2nd in District 6 they will be seated above the 3rd place team in District 5. White County could get bumped to Quad 3 should Columbia, Kenwood, and Memphis Overton lose while Cherokee wins, in which case Knox Central and Gibbs loser could still make it in as the only 4-6 wildcard team. White County has never hosted a playoff game in history and the Warriors are 0-5 all-time in playoff games. To answer your question, yes White County would be the team to bump to Quad 3 if there is any movement among the teams with a team in the east replacing a team in the middle or west.
  13. White County (7-2) wins 22-7 to reach 7 wins for the first time since 1987. Blake Lynn rushed for an unofficial total of 237 yards and 3 touchdowns to go over 1,100 through 9 games. Seth Davis led the Warrior defense with 13 tackles, 3 for loss, and an interception while River Boruff had 12 tackles. Luke Cantrell hit a field goal from 38 yards, his fourth in four tries in the last 3 games. White County Punter Hunter Cantrell who averages 43 yards a kick on the season received an offer from Tusculum during the week. Stone Memorial (6-3) played hard and fought hard in the contest. Both teams are already in the 5A playoffs with a week to go. White County hosts Cookeville (6-3) next week while Stone Memorial plays Rhea County (7-2). Good luck to both teams going forward!
  14. As a White County fan I love the strides made in the district this year with Rhea County at 7-1 and White County, Cookeville and Stone Memorial all at 6-2. I'd love to see Warren County's record improve as well as Cumberland County. I wish the Pioneers well and will say I think Tommy Johnson is a great guy and a football mind. I don't pretend to know the problems there but I wish all involved the very best!
  15. Stone Memorial has played well in close wins (1 over Livingston Academy, 2 over Coffee County, 3 over Warren County in overtime, and 3 over Sequatchie County) as evidenced by 4 wins by a total of 9 points. White County's closest game was a 7-point win over Warren County. Versus common opponents: Livingston Academy (Stone Memorial 6-5 win; White County 19-6 win) Warren County (Stone Memorial won 41-38 (OT); White County 23-16 win) DeKalb County (Stone Memorial lost 21-13; White County 46-21 win) Cumberland County (Stone Memorial won 38-8; White County 35-7 win) Stone Memorial losses: DeKalb County and Cookeville White County losses: Rhea County and Sequoyah Records: Stone Memorial 6-2 (2-1); White County 6-2 (2-1) Great atmosphere expected. Come out and see a huge district game!
  16. Both of these teams have had surprising seasons and coming in with much on the line. Stone has a chance to win the District if they sweep the last two games. White County has a chance for 7 wins for the first time since 1987. This game has huge3 playoff implications as well. I expect a great crowd and atmosphere in Sparta and a great game as well. The team that plays the most physical Friday night will be the team that wins.
  17. White County came out and took care of business Friday night, defeating Cumberland County 35-7 to reach 6-1 for the first time since 1972. The Warriors had 384 yards to 73 for the Jets. The Warriors led 29-7 at the half but 5 turnovers kept the game from being a rout. White County kicker Luke Cantrell hit field goals of 38 and 25 yards in the game while Blake Lynn rushed for 216 yards. The Warriors travel to tough Sequoyah, 4-2, after a close 21-14 loss to Polk County this week.
  18. Your command of the English language is stunning. I frankly have no clue what you are trying to say. But you are only hurting your own team and program with your incoherent remarks. I know most people in Warren County are supporters of the program and not trying to drive wedges and cause trouble. Please do not move to White County, thank you!
  19. White County seeks to reach 6-1 for the first time since 1972 with a win. Cumberland County comes to Sparta having not won a game since the 2011 season. It is a District game and a rivalry game. The QB of the 1972 Warriors? Current Assistant Head Coach of the Kansas City Chiefs David Culley. Culley played his college football at Vanderbilt and has a long coaching career including stops at Austin Peay, Vanderbilt, MTSU, Chattanooga, SW Louisiana, UTEP, Texas A&M, and in the NFL with Tampa Bay, Pittsburgh, Philadelphia and Kansas City.
  20. White County jumps out to a 37-0 halftime lead and plays everyone in the win. Great senior leadership with Blake Lynn having 6 carries for 140 and 2 touchdowns and River Boruff 1 carry for a 41-yard touchdown. Jake Young threw a touchdown pass to Hunter Cantrell and Skylar Delaney scored on defense. Harley Eldridge completed a pass and every eligible Warrior played! The team is now 5-1 for the first time since 1982! A great homecoming win. Good luck to Chattanooga Christian the rest of the season.
  21. Monday was a JV game. Get over yourself 'stats don't lie'. Support your team and your program. This thread represents everything that is bad about high school football. The kid might be a decent quarterback I don't know but I do know White County left several of their JV players at home for this contest and that it took a mishandled kickoff return to determine the outcome. I'm not sure that translates to Friday nights.
  22. It's way to early to talk coach of the year. However one must keep an eye on what is going on at White County (Matthan Houser), Rhea County (Mark Pemberton) and Cookeville Jimmy Maynord). The District was suppose to be the worst in AAA and yet those teams are playing decent football. In White County they have a chance to go 5-1 for the first time since 1982. I agree the playoffs will determine much and White County has never won a playoff game. Since Coach Houser arrived White County started 0-4 and since have went 8-4 making last year's playoffs and earning District Coach of the Year honors in his first year. Coach Pemberton took over a program that was 3-17 over the last 2 years and has them at 3-1 while Coach Maynord has Cookeville at 4-1 in his first year. The Cavs won the District a year ago finishing 5-6. Congrats to Campbell County but it is way to early to even start this conversation.
  23. I am very proud of this Warrior football team. They have not listened to the noise whether it be those saying this team has little chance at victory as people said early in the year; or this is an automatic win as people have said more recently. That is part of learning how to win. I think the problem areas are definitely there but from 4-7 a year ago to 4-1 now this team is making great strides and improving weekly at least in my opinion. Will the road get tougher? Of course; Will the stakes get higher? Most definitely; Is it exciting and fun? Without question! Good luck Warriors!
  24. I just find it sad that people use this forum to anonymously bash others in a mean and cruel way. If you really believe what you say be man enough to put your name out there. As a White County fan I find Coach Johnson to be a nice guy who runs a developing program. I don't pretend to know any of the problems in Warren County but prefer to use this forum to speak positively about the young men and women who play sports and the mentors and coaches who spend so much time trying to develop quality people as well as teach the sport they coach. The mean comments are divisive and serve no real purpose when you do not attach a name to it. I'm not trying to pick a fight with anyone just maybe make people think before bashing others.
  25. You know things are looking up when some are critical and when you are not at the top of your game and still win. Taking nothing away from Warren County however because they played very hard and Coach Johnson had his guys ready for a win Friday night, the bottom line is White County found a way to win a football game and move to 4-1. Learning how to win and how to handle success is a hard thing for a program that is not used to it! Looking forward to homecoming this week and hoping the players avoid the distractions!
