  1. This is hilarious, we have a Cheatham fan threatening Harpeth to watch out, because we(Cheatham) are now becoming competitive.... What does that make Cheatham 3-22 over the last 12 years. I am officially scared to death. I see a dynasty in the making. Just curious will this bleed over to all sports, wrestling won all but one match the other night against Cheatham in the battle of the County. It truly wasn't even competitive. With baseball coming up next will Cheatham field a competitive team? You may want to get a few more wins under your belt before you start threatening beat downs.....
  2. I doubt that Harpeth will score 70, however I also doubt they will give up 70. Should be a good game with a great crowd. Harpeth will win in a close one.
  3. Thanks for the info, howdoitknow.I checked the paper this morning and it did not have the box scores. Harpeth played really well, very unselfish. I'm a little concerned with the low scoring. Looks like we will have to put up a bunch to stay with Cheatham. Was MC defense that bad?
  4. Devin Presley at Harpeth will be returning this year along with Brandon Forriest, should make for a tough 1-2 punch for the Indians. Both guys are Seniors and have been working hard in the off season. New Coach Marc Walls will bring his pitching expertise to these guys, and a host of others.
  5. I agree with the Capt on this one, Harpeth had a horrific night shooting the ball. Greenbrier played exceptionally well, I give them credit for that. If they played 10 times we win at least 8 of them. Once the football players get in the rotation we will be a better team, they were there at the Greenbrier game, but not ready to play yet. You can't defeat the zone unless you can score from outside, which we could not on that night. Since that night we have played a lot better, if there is such a thing as a good loss, Greenbrier was a good one. Our guys needed to get their heads right and realize when you don't play well anybody can beat you. As far as the coaching goes, I will put Wilson up against most any HS coach. His teams are typically well prepared and have the right game plan, executing it is upu to the players....
  6. I was also very pleased with Hapeth's new heavyweight, Will Weston. 1st year wrestler who seems to be picking it up very easily, I believe he was 3-1 Saturday. Very strong, a little light for heavyweight, but makes up for it with speed and agility. It will be nice to not have so many hole(forfeits) in our line up. If we can just get Bass back we should be pretty strong this year. We don't have a 106, and maybe one other weight, but this is much better than years past when we were forfeiting 4-5 per match. Coach Woods is doing his usual stellar job with the kids he has, not but a couple of seniors on this team.
  7. Camron Cox did win, I watched the match, his opponent was very frustrated the entire match. He received several penalty points, and his primary defense was to crawl up Cox's back so the ref would stop for potentially dangerous. Cox is going to be a force to be reckoned with this year, his strength has improved and he looks very comfortable at 120. No doubt in this one who was the better wrestler, and who wanted it more.
  8. OK Harpeth fans, enough about the band, in case you didnt know...their competition season runs concurrent with football. They have to practice, a lot of the away games fall on the night before a band competition. There is also the expense, wonder what it cost to transport the entire band and props to an away game. I personally have witnessed our football team take the field while the band was still performing. Major disrespect. Nobody acknowledges or appreciates them when they are there, including coaches. I love Harpeth sports, but I also had a daughter who spent 4 years in the band. Lest we forget who is the most successful extra-curricular program in all of Cheatham County....HHS band, multiple State championships. A little respect would go a long way here.
  9. Anyone who has seen my posts in the past knows that I am 100% behind sports programs, what you may not know is that I had a dsughter in the band. I don't think it serves our best intrests to be vocal about what other programs receive. We are not comparing apples here, band is an actual class, you receive credit and a grade for. Nobody receives credits for participation in sports. Also, the annual budget to operate the Harpeth band program is well over 100k, all but the 10k is fundraised by parents. While I would support the school system showing financial support for our sports programs, I would not support taking away from others. The Harpeth High School marching band is the most succesful extr-curricular program in our county, I know, I was in it for 4 years as a parent booster. They are former State Champs and perrenial contenders for that title. Lets push for our money and leave theres alone.
  10. Conrgats to Coach Goodwin on the hire. I hated to lose him from Harpeth and know he will do well at Sycamore given the opportunity. I hope Sycamore will embrace him and give him every oportunity to be successful. Good Luck Coach
  11. Ethan probably never knew about it...not having a Head Coach has us completely out of the loop on some things. The sooner they get somebody in place the better off we will be. I just hope it is someone who is committed to Harpeth Baseball.
  12. I spoke to Harpeth AD yesterday, he is hopeful to have a Coach hired this week. He has narrowed the field down to a handful of candidates and will be making an offer to someone soon. It's amazing to me that we had 40 plus applicants for a job that doesn't pay anymore than this one.I realize that most Coaches don't do it for the money but come on, at least make it worth their time with all of the field work and time required to run a top notch program. I am optimistic that we will get a good coach and our program will continue to grow and prosper. Harpeth has a great group of guys returning and they need some continuity in order to achieve all they are capable of, both as students and athletes. Will let you know as soon as we hear an official word of the new hire.
  13. Well our season has come to a close, it was an emotional ending for the Seniors who have played their last game. I enjoyed watching our team this season, we were "the good, the bad and the ugly" all in one season. It is disapointing to exit so early but we were beat by two teams who hit the ball better than we did on this occasion. As far as the field goes, we certainly didn't take advantage of the short porch, with power up and down the line up we never threatened to homer. I don't think Creekwood getting the tourney every year is a viable solution, there is too much advantage to hosting. I think the winner should host, and if we don't want to play on Camden's field we better win. I would like to thank all of the people at Camden who were so welcoming, we were made to feel right at home by their coaching staff and parent volunteers from the moment we stepped off the bus. The hospitality tent was nice and those home-made cookies were off the chart good. Good luck to the teams still in it, I hope the District will go far at the next level whoever wins the tourney. Best of luck to all!
  14. Thanks, MKD. We are excited about coming to your place and seeing some good baseball. I really think whoever comes out of 11AA has a great chance this year to go further. Others may argue, but I feel our district was really good this year. The top 4 teams are very competitve and any team could win. As usual, it will depend alot on the pitching. See you this afternoon.
  15. Harpeth completes the SWEEP sagainst Creekwood tonight at the Rock.Stellar pitching performance by Seagraves. Timely hitting by the indidans. This puts us tied for 2nd against Camden, go MC and SC pull of thhe upset and get us back in this thing. Nobody wats to plsy the short porch at Camden for District, on top of it being too far to drive. The fans were in this from the start, and it was well behaved on both sides!
  16. Harpeth shut out Creekwood last night at their place, 5-0. Presley pitched a gem and had stellar defense behind him. Harpeth scored one run in 5 different innings in a good effort at the plate. They come to the Rock tonight for Senior night at Harpeth, should be a great game as this is always a good rivalry.
  17. The "better" Harpeth team showed up yesterday and beat Sycamore 9-0. Seagraves pitches a complete game shut out, threw 77 pitches. Defensively one of our better games, not one error in the field. Mark Moore goes YARD, right after Foriest hits a triple. Its fun to watch when we show up and play good ball. Todays games at the Rock will be a total wash out. I went by the field at 8:00 this morning and it was already too wet. I'm not sure what the plan B is, but it will be tough to get it dried out for Saturday's games. Go away rain, we need to play and build off of the good effort.
  18. 2 more rainouts for the JV this week, we haven't been on a baseball field since the loss at Camden. I hope the boys can bounce back from the losses and get back to playing good baseball. It concerns me that we really haven't had the leadership on the field that you would have expected from a team with so many talented upperclassmen. I don't know what it's gonna take for someone to step up and take charge, but they need to get it done. Too many times this year we have showed up not ready to play, or we just can't seem to bounce back after an error or two. Mentally we need to be stronger than that, baseball is a game full of failures, you have to be able to bounce back from an error or a bad plate appearance. Looking forward to the tourney this week at the Rock, good teams tend to make us play better. We open with Sycamore, who I miss playing greatly. Should be good weather for Thursday, Friday is looking iffy at best.
  19. Harpeth stunk it up, at least 8 errors, at MC Friday night and loses 5-4, then the same teams goes to Smyrna on Saturday plays great baseball and beats powerhouse AAA Brentwood, and Smyrna. It was fun to watch, good baseball for a change. IMO the boys have got to be mentally stronger and ready to play every single time we take the field. No panic, we are 3-1 in district just a bad night, I am tired of playing in the cold.
  20. Harpeth tops Montgomery Central 10-5, Presley gets the win. Harpeth bats are staying pretty warm. Gave up 3 runs in the 7th on a couple of errors and hits. Boys are playing well, hope we can get todays game in.
  21. Harpeth completed the sweep of Waverly last 9-6, both teams looked a little worse for the wear after the thriller Monday night. Harpeth jumps out with a 4 run first, and then struggled to hit the ball the rest of the game. Back to back late nights, glad we are off today, tough on the kids to stay up on school work during the start of the season.
  22. First let me say that my comment regarding the pitch count was in no way intended to question a Coach. I was basing my opinion on the information I was given.Last night I found out from Mr. Purcell that he has been throwing all winter. That changes things a little bit. As far as being unproffessional, calling Coach Jones a LL coach might be pushing the edge. He is an extremely vocal and passionate Coach, I thought with the calls that were made by the field umpire he controlled himself pretty well, as did Coach Cash. As far as my affilliation with Harpeth, I'm just a Dad, did not mean to misrepresent myself.Took that screen name a couple years ago as I was once one of those Little League coaches, who behaved well on the field. Your Coach and your team have a lot of class and talent, and the same can be said for Harpeth, you and I need to display the same in public forums.
  23. Harpeth wins 6-5 in 10 innings over Waverly last night. One of the best games I have seen played in a long time. Presley dueling Purcell, both pitchers threw extremely well. I have no idea how many pitches Purcell threw, as he went the entire game. It had to be 150 or better, that's not counting bullpen and foul balls, and in-between innings. Too many in my opinion. I will give it to him, he was still bringing it in the 10th, kids got a lot of heart. Harpeth played there guts out, coming back to tie in regulation, and twice in extra innings before winning it on a bases loaded walk. Great ptiching and big hits out of several players. Gee Moore was a beast behind the plate, holding runners, and handling the bat. Waverly is a good team, Harpeth just played better last night. We go to their place tonight for round two.
  24. Mark Moore from Harpeth is starting off the season with a gun behind the plate. He has also picked up quite a bit on the offensive side. Look for him to add lots of RBI's for Hapeth this year.
  25. As I have previously suggested.....Go and speak directly to Coach Jones or Coach Pomeroy. Casting stones from behind a screen name takes little effort or courage. We got way too much positives going on to get buried in this sort of thing to start the season.
