  1. Raul Placeres...don't think he would leave GP though. Just a guess.
  2. From a follower of the IMAC for many years, let me say you are getting a true class act and great coach in Mike Wright. He won in this area last year on 3rd place talent and took his team to the substate round. It is truly scary to think of what he is capable of as a coach with the talent at Oakland. Congratulations on your hire of Wright and good luck to you Coach Wright, you will be missed by the IMAC.
  3. Congrats to Lopez on his acceptance, and it would be awesome if Steele could go to Oak Hill. It's good to see players from East TN getting the respect they deserve and having opportunities to improve their game and capitalize on their talent and God-given abilities. Wilson from Carter may get the opportunity in a year or so. It's awesome for Fulton and A-E to get this recognition, good job Coaches Mitchell and Wright. /thumb[1].gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":thumb:" border="0" alt="thumb[1].gif" />
  4. That's some funny stuff right there... /thumb[1].gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":thumb:" border="0" alt="thumb[1].gif" /> /ph34r.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="ph34r.gif" />
  5. You guys are killing me. /thumb[1].gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":thumb:" border="0" alt="thumb[1].gif" /> /ph34r.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="ph34r.gif" />
  6. Wade Wester...Cocke County High School /thumb[1].gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":thumb:" border="0" alt="thumb[1].gif" /> /ph34r.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="ph34r.gif" />
  7. Thanks splainshornets...Anything to keep you guys amused. Studying from the past posts of utvols1, he must have deep and extensive ties to the Greene County area, with most of his non-officiating posts dealing with South Greene and Greeneville High School. He also speaks of his dealings with Coach Duncan from Greeneville. This would lead the average layperson to believe he has officiated games at Greeneville High School. utvols1 is suspected of officiating at this year's Region 2AA tournament (Your Hornets vs. Catholic). Through the process of elimination, I have come up with the following theory. utvols1 is a slightly insecure, probably newer official from the Smoky Mountain Association with extensive ties to the Greene County area. utvols1 is most likely a resident of Greene County and/or an alum of one of the outlying high schools in the Greene County area, most likely South Greene. This is just a hypothesis. Nothing more...nothing less.. Good Day... /thumb[1].gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":thumb:" border="0" alt="thumb[1].gif" /> /ph34r.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="ph34r.gif" />
  8. Bulldog...you are an idiot... The proper English for your sentence would have been, "Why don't you come to a Hampton game so you can see for yourself?". I'm sure a man of Dickie V's caliber has better things to do than come to a Hampton game. Besides, how many people do you think would stand idly by and allow you to threaten or harm Dickie V? /thumb[1].gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":thumb:" border="0" alt="thumb[1].gif" /> /ph34r.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="ph34r.gif" />
  9. Where is SLIM SHADY?? B-RABBIT?? or any other moniker used by that now famous official, utvols1 /thumb[1].gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":thumb:" border="0" alt="thumb[1].gif" /> /ph34r.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="ph34r.gif" />
  10. The hits just keep on coming...more from your favorite official and mine...utvols1 February 7, 2007... Politics is a problem with just about anything these days. As far as officials being too old or overweight and unable to get in position...I completely agree! Some of the guys that I call with have been doing this for 40 years. They love the kids and love the game and really do enjoy calling. I also agree that we need some younger officials to come in to the associations and start calling some. Its a great way to make a little bit of extra money and to stay in shape! As far as having thick skin...when i first started officiating...i had the thinnest skin of them all! My temper was horrible! But the more you work, the easier it is to let things roll of your back. As an official...you will make someone mad every time you step on the floor. It is a thankless job, but we all love to do it anyway! It is great to watch players and coaches develop as athletes and people...I wouldnt trade it for the world!!! February 5, 2007... Someone always has something bad to say about the refs...greene county fans are historically the worst...and its funny how you say that when we hear considerably less from the rest of the schools in the association... To answer your question...GHS uses the Smokey Mountain Association The county schools use Tri-Cities February 5, 2007... Coming from an officials viewpoint...Bill Duncan from Greeneville.... January 26, 2007... As an official, I can say that as a rule ( I cant speak for 100% of the guys in the state, but all the ones I know and work with i can) do not target schools or players or coaches even for that matter for Technical fouls. We dont decide who we are going to call for before the game. We go out and try to call what we see. We try to be as fair as possible. I know that we miss calls, just like players miss shots, but we do try to do a good job. Most of the guys I call with are in it for the kids too. Its great to see players grow up on and off the floor. We do try to be fair! We do try to be unbiased! But we are human....we do make mistakes. Personally, I try to learn each time I mess up on the floor, and I do my best not to make the same mistake again...Remember these things before you think an official is out to "get" you...its probably just not true.!!. January 25, 2007... I love it! Calling ball is great money on the side, and it is really neat to watch teams and players develop as the year goes along, and even their 4 year career passes by. More people should give officiating a shot! Maybe then they could understand what its like to be on the floor and some of them will take it easy on us in the stripes....HAHA....like that will ever happen lol January 25, 2007... I started calling ball the year after I graduated. You are exactly right...It is a great way to make some extra money! and we do need young guys right out of high school to start calling. Some of the guys have been calling ball for over 50 years! When they stop, we need to have fresh legs to start! Think about that tho....50 years of officiating high school basketball...that just blows my mind.... January 24, 2007... You could always call the state office if you really needed to know. I would suggest asking someone you know who is an official....that would probably be more productive than a phone call as I am sure the TSSAA gets plenty of phone calls every day about the officials. I call for them, and you can never make everyone happy, but I guess that is just how it goes! That is all!!!!!!!!Good Day. /thumb[1].gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":thumb:" border="0" alt="thumb[1].gif" /> /ph34r.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="ph34r.gif" />
  11. Just for you splainshornets..from the archives of CoachT.com, your favorite referee and mine...utvols1 March 6, 2007... Explain your reasoning about going back to 2 refs...why would you rather have two sets of eyes on the floor than 3? The 3 man crews do a much better job and the games are called much better than 2 man crews. I remember when we made the switch to 3 man, and the coaches that i have talked to about it like it MUCH better than they did 2 man crews... March 6, 2007... utvols1...rules genius... The ball can actually roll from one end of the backboard all the way down the top to the otherside of it and not be out of bounds. It is OOB if it hits the supports that hold the goal up or goes over the back of the backboard, but it is allowed to hit the top.... February 13, 2007... Once again...pure genius... It would go in the order that it happened. The guy who was fouled would shoot the free throws if it was a shooting foul, and then the Technical freethrows would be given.... February 10, 2007... I completely agree with this...In the 15 years i have been an official i have seen many games that the fouls are lopsided...its not our fault as officials that one team plays more aggresively than the other...as a whole, we call what we see and dont make things up or let things slide... And if that really did happen with intentionals and the way the official addressed the coach then that is unacceptable and i also agree that you should send the tape in to the TSSAA... Most officials do a excellent job and put forth a great effort in officiating games but NO MATTER WHAT THE RESULT IS....SOMEONE WILL ALWAYS BE MAD.....thats just the life of a ref!!!!! February 8, 2007... You are right he does get irate sometimes, but in my experience with Coach Duncan he generally asks about things in the right manner. What he does when our backs are turned may be another story tho and the way he works some of the newer faces may be another story as well... This also brings up a good point...when a coach goes to an official in a respectable manner he is given a answer in a respectable tone and manner MOST of the time...Its when coaches go irate and begin yelling and raising heck that they get the dreaded Technical foul called on them. As for me personally, this is my 15th year of officiating high school basketball and when i am next to a coach he can talk to me all he wants and say ALMOST anything he wants...its when they begin screaming and yelling over calls or when they continue talking about a call that happened 10 trips down the floor ago that they get the T....Respect=Respect.... February 7, 2007... Haha this is so true...the gamecocks fans are ruthless! A close second to Greene County fans... Just an observation...Although many coaches are this way...the cocke county boys coach whines over every call. He tries to work the officials, but neglects his coaching sometimes becaue he is complaing so much. I watched him about two weeks ago and he recieved a T...once he got the T on him he actually coached his team and did a great job...A lot of coaches should worry more about their players and coaching than trying to work the officials, they would win more ballgames like that. When a coach complains over every call he teaches his kids that it is ok to do the same. It kinda gives them the mentality that the officials are out to get them while this is just not the case. Most ALL the officials are unbiased and work hard. Maybe the coaches and players should play and coach and not try and referee the games...it would make a huge difference in the games... February 7, 2007... This post shows your ignorance...you are probably one of those people who have had everything handed to you in life and have never been in trouble because it was always someone elses fault. You need to hush until you put on the stripes and whistle and get out there and try to ref a game...any game...even a midget level girls game...you would find a new appreciation for what these guys do every night. Keep in mind that players dont make 100% of their shots, and officials dont get 100% of their calls correct. You cant blame officials for the players missing shots and you cant make excuses all your life... Grow up... More to come... /thumb[1].gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":thumb:" border="0" alt="thumb[1].gif" /> /ph34r.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="ph34r.gif" />
  12. splainshornets...Do I need to dig further, or do you think he got the point? /thumb[1].gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":thumb:" border="0" alt="thumb[1].gif" /> /ph34r.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="ph34r.gif" /> How do you think Carter matches up with AE tonight? Can they match the intensity and quickness they will see for 32 minutes from the Roadrunners? /thumb[1].gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":thumb:" border="0" alt="thumb[1].gif" /> /ph34r.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="ph34r.gif" />
  13. Your post from Feb 2, 2008... Not sure where you came up with this information bro...I have been officiating for quite a while now and have NEVER heard ANY coach whether it be JV or middle school or any level in school ball tell the refs how they want the game to be called, and even if they did try and tell them the officials don't answer to the coaches they answer to their assigning supervisors and association supervisors so they wouldnt listen to or cater to what the coaches want. I think maybe you are getting JV and middle school basketball confused with the instructional league at the parks and recreation department or the boys and girls club haha AND AGAIN /thumb[1].gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":thumb:" border="0" alt="thumb[1].gif" /> /ph34r.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="ph34r.gif" />
