  1. Has Maryville been affected by the illness going on in Blount Co?
  2. I am headed to the game tonight. Should be a huge crowd for two #1's. (Farragut in 6A and Catholic in 5A). For all the talk this week, I still think both teams will come out and try to establish a running game. The team that does that has a chance to control the clock, which is vital in a close game. The other ket, as always, is turnover margin. The Farragut offense seems a little more "traditional" and less likely to turn it over, so I am going Farragut 24 Catholic 20.
  3. I think it gets much more difficult this week against Bearden. I saw in the paper that Bearden rung up 44 on Walker Valley. Any thoughts? Predictions?
  4. well said TNReb! May God pour out his graciousness to the Sullivan South community
  5. Seniors to watch in Knox County include: Matt Kirkland, South Doyle Nick Williams, Farragut Ethan Bennett, Farragut John Anders, Catholic Not a huge group. A lot of schools seem to be dominated by a strong Junior Class (ie Powell, Bearden)
  6. Good luck to both Sullivan South and Knox West in what will prove to be an unbelievably emotional game and season for both. I never met the incredible young man that was taken from us, but based on all accounts I have read on here, he was an example of what we all should strive for. Again, Good Luck!
  7. I would not discount the Farragut backs. From what i have seen in scrimmages, the Purty kid is one tough back. If Browning has a chance to play, he will, tough kid. If Browning plays, Farragut by 7. Otherwise, a tossup and decided by which team wins turnover battle.
  8. What about Farragut and Bearden? Both seem to make playoffs every year
  9. Glad you took it that way Rebel... it was meant in good fun. I do like your passion about your team. What was the score last year? How did each team score? I saw comments on here about a big run the Young had. Was that for a score to win? did you go to the jamboree?
  10. Thanks Cane fan. Good luck this year (unless you are playing a knox county school ...smile)
  11. Couldn't really tell anything from the jamboree as both teams played conservative. Like others on this board, i think Young will be the difference in the game. Ps.... anybody want to chip in with me and buy rebel a spell checker?
  12. They also mentioned Young looked good for Bearden and said the Bearden kicker had a "huge" leg. That true?
  13. how did west look in the scrimmage against SC?
  14. Had lunch with two Bearden dads today. They felt like they controlled the scrimmage early, but after East got the pick six, it was much more competitive. They both did think the rotation of players on both sides lead to lots of miscues and inconsistencies.
  15. Thanks Boot...i forgot about the new districts. who do you like int he game?
  16. If my memory is correct, this is a series of "streaks". seems like West dominated from 2000-2005, and now it seems to be Bearden's turn. It may depend on home field. Seems like the game was at West last year, so I am going with team speed, home field, and Bearden.
  17. How do these new districts play out in Knox Co? will Maryville/Catholic/Bearden/Farragut/West beat up on each other and cost teams a deep run in playoffs? Also, if you are a fan of one of the schools, can you give me a one paragraph preview of your team? Thanks!
  18. Thanks Irish. How will Catholic be? I assume they lost a lot from last year's state runner up team. PS... I am assuming you know about Catholic based on your nickname
  19. Irish, How many Seniors does Bearden have? seems like it will be tough to compete with Farragut. Everytime i pick up the KNS, they have a TN signee
  20. Any word on this position?
  21. I would allow 30 mins gate to gate
  22. Just a casual Knox Co football fan with no real strong feeling for any school, but here are my thoughts regarding West and others in the greater knoxville area. I think historically West has started slow and improved over the course of the season. I have not really studied their schedule, but if they catch a break in scheduling, they may surprise/upset some teams they have historically struggled against. Bearden for example. If they are truly returning 17 starters, they should be good, since they were competitive late in the year. Who are the D1 prospects? I just saw the News Sentinel list of top 25 in TN and no West players were listed. 2 form Farragut and one from Catholic if i recall. I would think you have to believe Farragut, MAryville, and Catholic are losses. And the key games are propably sullivan south (given West's history of slow starts) and Bearden. I look for Bearden to be a little better than people think. Last year, making the playoffs with a lot of underclassmen caught my eye. Young is special. Farragut could make a deep run if Browning is healthy. He is a good , true drop back passer. The Purdy kid is a above average running back, and i anm sure they will have a big physical O line. thoughts?
  23. I think a good hire for Farragut..... he has proven he can build a program..... now the question is can he maintain one? So now the speculation begins on Bearden. Rice(Karns)? Traywick(SC)? Sullivan(Catholic)? Wright(West)?
  24. Not sure how the Hardin Valley school plays into all this, but i have no doubt some west knoxville middle schoolers are getting applications for CAK for baseball
  25. I tend to agree with you about Buckner at Bearden. If my memory is right, Bearden had very little tradition until he got there. Now he has at least one district championship, several second place finishes, and a first ever trip to M'boro for the school. He seems to be in the middle of building something good, so why leave now? He may see the Farragut job as the next logical step to a state title (and who could question that). I have to believe the job is attractive across the state, not just in Knox Co. I have been shocked at our "quiet" the search has been.
