  1. There is no formal "seeding criteria for the regional tournament" for all regions. Each region uses their own that is agreed upon before the seeding meeting. The one posted above, however, is somewhat typical. Good luck having the all coaches actually use it once the meeting begins.
  2. Wow, that's very bad news. He was a great man and did a ton for wrestling and the community. Prayers to Carol and his family.
  3. Yes that should be our goal. For our venue to be comparable to Kentucky's.
  4. 1st Soddy over Red Bank 41-35 (I think, check track in am) 3rd Walker Valley OR Hixson (don't know result) 5th James Clemmons (AL) over Chattanooga Central 55-22
  5. I believe this will be Jeff Rufolos replacement. Serves him right after he threw Gordon out of the gym during the Cleveland vs. McCallie match a few years back.
  6. Madison Martin is at King College as well. But Henry and the Millers aren't. Garrett Alexander, Scottie Boykin, Campbell Lewis, Jordan Davis, McCoy Newberg, John Shrader, Austin Stevison and Barrett Walthall are all at UTC.
  7. Coaches, I must inform you that the Red Bank pre-season tournament will be cancelled. My father passed away and there is no way I can organize and implement a successful wrestling tournament at this point. Sorry for any inconvenience. This was definitely an unforeseen and unavoidable circumstance. Thank you, Shane Turner Head Wrestling Coach Red Bank High School
  8. Start time moved to 10:15 am to allow teams to mass hydrate @ Ooltewah first if they need to. Should still finish by 3 or 4pm.
  9. Less than 3 weeks away. Never too early to register.
  10. Coaches, on 11/15 you can either: a) Watch your wrestlers fail the dehydration test and/or get certified for the wrong weight class (which can be done anytime, not just the 15th) OR Watch them compete against different competition and get 3 or 4 good matches in
  11. Red Bank Pre-Season Tournament: Location – Red Bank High school (new gym) Date - November 15, 2014 Time – Wrestling starts @ 9:00 am straight through no breaks Entry Fee - $10 per wrestler $150 max Coaches will weigh their teams and send in rosters Thursday 11/13/14. Please include name, weight, grade and a ranking of 1-4. 1 being the highest and 4 the lowest. Send all information and address any questions to turner_shane@hcde.org. There will be a hospitality room for coaches and officials as well as concessions for spectators. This is a great opportunity to get some matches in that will not count against your dates. Look forward to seeing you there.
  12. Won't be surprised if Arizona State comes from nowhere to finish in the top 5
  13. Agreed! Excellent hire. Will help in all aspects, including recruiting.
  14. Wow, that was pretty crazy. I got 6-4 blue, but very close to a fall.
  15. In other words a head wrestling coach can be a non-faculty coach provided they are approved by the principal, they're name submitted annually, background check done and a $50 fee paid.
  16. "Gen Y is characterized by a “very inflated sense of self†that leads to “unrealistic expectations†and “chronic disappointment.†This view was echoed by a study by Stacy Campbell of Kennesaw State University who says that when it comes to work, Gen Y wants high salaries and lots of leisure time." " 60 Minutes ran a story about Gen Y in the workplace and proclaimed that a "new breed of American worker is about to attack everything you hold sacred." The program described millennials as cynical, unaccustomed to hard work and having fragile egos because their childhoods filled with trophies and adulation didn't prepare them for the cold realities of work." What a surprise!!!!

  18. IMO wrestling FS/GR during the off season makes you better for folkstyle even more so than wrestling folkstyle in the offseason. I suppose to you have to actually wrestle freestyle to understand the concept. I'm sure there are many more, but in Chattanooga Soddy, McCallie and Red Bank basically have full teams but there are a handful of kids from many other schools as well. There are tournaments in the ATL area every weekend from last weekend through May. Most of our guys got 6 matches last weekend with a couple getting up to 10. Do the math. That's almost 60 matches in just over 2 months. More than an entire HS season.
  19. We are currently waiting on the results of a couple things before we contact the TSSAA. I've heard from a very reliable source the event is already schedule for the A/G Center for 2015, but will definitely be moved after that. The same source did however advise to keep proceeding with 2 petitions. 1 petition for all coaches, fans, referees, etc. who want it moved and 1 petition for all those that believe they suffered a skin infection or allergic reaction as a result of the poor air and soil quality of the A/G center. As far as where to move it to, quite honestly I'm not an event planner. That's the TSSAA's job, not mine. I have (and many others that care about this) investigated several arenas and possibilities, but there are two major problems with that. First, the TSSAA doesn't even know the correct date yet for the 2015 state tournament. Second, apparently it's already been scheduled for the A/G center (even though their printed material contradicts the date of the event). Thanks for your interest. You can stay much more up to date through the FB page (Bye bye Cow Palace) if you'd like.
  20. I don't think having matches simultaneously decreases the excitement. It might not be ideal if you want to see all the matches (because they're happening simultaneously), but it doesn't reduce the excitement. The venue/atmosphere is why the excitement seems to have diminished. Did it really seem more exciting in 2013 (there were only 2 matches simultaneously instead of 3) as opposed to this year?
  21. Interesting. Maybe it's just me, but it seems like it would be difficult to find a facility if you don't know when the event will take place.
