  1. Worden 55 that is exactly what I meant by the instructional part I see girls on teams in Nashville and know from their AAU teams they can press and understand the concepts but in some of their school's systems the team may not perform as well. And Wes Charge as contrary as it may sound I know of successful teams this year and in years past that can't press and have to rely on an aggressive half court .
  2. Along with having the talent to press full court you also have to know how to teach it.In AAU most all the teams press. At least the better ones anyway
  3. I wish all the programs were run like this and this type of mentality was the order of the day.A lot of good players ,parents and coaches would not have moved on or given up all together.I read in a b-ball instructional book once that the number one reason a kid stops playing is a bad experience with a parent or coach.
  4. What you posted philtenn makes sense on paper however in reality more often than not this idea would create more conversation and dialogue than the average high school or AAU coach for that matter has time for.The idea of communication is always a good one but too often parents and players think another parent has undue influence on their coach or playing time just because the parent keeps stats or helps out in some other way.One of our coaches has a policy that our AAU program has adopted and that is to be willing to discuss anything with a parent except playing time. That can be discussed with the player only. I understand your example was of a child who was intimidated but I believe the proper way to address that is to ask the question what does my child need to improve on to get more PT.
  5. Assist and steals will be always the subject of debate as long as there is no training for stat keepers on the high school level .Most people do just what has been stated on here and that is just do what they think is right and fair. The NCAA manual will confuse and surprise you on just what constitutes an assist. It says an assist can be awarded to a player even if he does not pass the ball directly to the scorer...ie... If the passer throws the ball to someone who passes to another player who then scores the assist should be awarded to the passer who created the opportunity for the scoring pass to be made.It also does not limit the number of dribbles a player can take for the assist to be awarded. Parents keeping score can be good or bad depending on the person. You have situations where people who have no vested interest in the game still aren't the best choice to keep stats. At our school their is one parent who only keeps stats for themselves, but yells to their kid every time the kid makes a bad pass that it is okay no one on the team can catch the ball. This parent wouldn't be a good choice to keep stats.
  6. Assist and steals will always be the subject of debate as long as there is no uniformity in the keeping of the stats. Most people do what has basically been stated on this thread and that is try and do the right thing. The NCAA manual is pretty clear on the assist but not as clear on the steals and deflections. The manual does not limit dribbles on the assist. It even says an assist can be given if the passer does not directly pass the ball to scorer. example: if the passer passes the ball to someone downcourt who is wide open but instead of scoring passes to someone who is also wide open instead of scoring themselves then the assist goes to the first passer who created the scoring opportunity.I don't recall assist being given on free throws.Unless you have stat keepers reading the rules as in college they probably are fair but not by the book.
  7. I may be off on this statement but DII seems to be down this year, in the past there were always teams that could compete with the best public schools in the state. This year they don't seem to be as tough from top to bottom as before or maybe there has been a shift of power and the traditional top tier teams are not as tough.
  8. I predict Antioch will win because their coach is too smart to let Taylor play the whole game without wearing her down.Once she gets tired from having to carry the team on her shoulders the fat lady will begin her song.No disrepct to the other Lady Panthers but the overall skill level of the team is low.
  9. In no particular order Mooney Cross Johns @ Antioch Taylor @ Maplwood Lawson @ Cheatham Co. Oliver @ Smyrna Armstrong @ Shelbyville I have not seen Edney play in high school but judging by her AAU play I would rate her good but not one of the best in Middle Tn. when you consider all divisions.
  10. If the Lady Cobras can pull the upset it will prove what we have been saying about this season not having a clear cut favorite in Region 6AAA. I doubt if Deanna Fuqua will be able to play.My sympathy goes out to her and her family in their loss.

The point guard from last year was Elise Hardy is she playing college ball anywhere, that little red head is a good ball player.
  12. Does anyone know where to find or have info on teams playing or schedules???
  13. McGavock is not the same team with Mellisa Martinez out of the lineup.I don't think she played . R_oneal27 up late or up early!!!
  14. Watchout for Oliver, when she hits a three and starts back pedaling down the floor ala Michael Jordan she can be tough to slow down.
  15. This is just the kind of situation I have been talking about ,you hate to see a player go to a private school or special transfer out of the school of zone ,but as a parent when you recognize you have a special player in the house these are things that have to be considered given the lack of skilled players that are fed into some of the high schools. Some of the high schools get the players and still are chronic underachievers.
  16. Tiger 68 I heard you the first time.I didn't have the opportunity to serve our country Thank you for doing so,you are mistaken about the flag and the issue is still not racial .The question I raised was one of misguided patrioitism and because I didn't serve doesn't make me any less patriotic than you or anyone else.I stand by my statement although I would be glad to be wrong about this. I have two children who play for Hillsboro and everyone on our side of the floor was shocked at the display.
  17. Maybe we need to here from some of the rebel faithful because the construction, as nice as it is, had nothing to do with the gym and the ROTC was not in attendance. If they had time to put up the confederate flag then there was time for the U.S.Flag.Practically everyone on the Franklin side turning to the confederate flag appeared rehearsed.Again,if I am wrong please tell me so,but maybe and most of the time doesn't cut it.
  18. Hillsboro played Franklin High at Franklin on Fri. Dec 2,2005 I know their nickname or mascot is the rebels ,but during the playing of the National Anthem there was no U.S. flag present and seemingly most all the Franklin fans and players turned and saluted the confederate flag.I don't want to make this a racial issue and it doesn't have to be because with what our country is going thru right now just the disrespect shown by this act is enough for people to be outraged. If I am wrong about this incident please someone correct me.Is this something new because I have been to Franklin numerous times and can't remeber this happening before.
  19. Hunter's Lane is playing great basketball I think we all underestimated how good their guards actually are.I knew McGrapth could play but the other girls have stepped up.The team has no super stars, just good players and as r_oneal27 said good coaching.Keep up the good work!!!
  20. 1.McMahon,Mooney,Puelo 2.Pickel,C.Lanning,Herring 3.K.Phillips,B.Thomas,L.Bellamy 4.A.Easley,T.Jenkins,Cross 5.Stewart,Armstrong,B.Brown
