  1. The high school students are moving into the elementary school across town, until they fix the roof or build a new school. It is not suppose to affect the football team this year (Worst case play every game on the road). If they elect to build a new school Monterey's home games may have to be played at either Cookeville High School or Upperman High School in 2013 and 2014. It will be a hassle but if we get a new school it will be worth it.
  2. I don't understand how you can combine two districts to form a so called " mega region" and keep the rules to get into the playoffs as if there are no regions. If they combine two districts there should be 4 automatics in that region. The only thing that would change is the number of wildcards allowed in. It is simply not fair to the teams placed in a region.
  3. Croz, RBS played really hard, and had every chance to win this game. Monterey is just a beat up football team. Injuries have really taken their toll on this team. They lost their QB,WB,TE,LT and their TB is at about 65 to 70%. The bad part is the QB is the starting safety, the WB is the starting outside LB, The TE is the other starting outside LB their TB is a starting safety and they are not playing him on defense so maybe he can make it on offense. Monterey at full strength is a decent team, but are very young when any of the starting 11 goes out.
  4. Very good scrimmage, not sure of the score. I think Monterey took it by 1 td, but I could be mistaken. Monterey was the more impressive team. They threw the ball well and had some really nice runs. Their sophomore QB played really good. Harriman finished the scrimmage better than Monterey did. After the JV kids came in and went out Harriman won the next few series, but over all Monterey took it to them. Monterey's young kids looked very impressive during their offensive and defensive series on the field. Number 45 is going to be beast!
  5. I think the boys on the mountain will fair pretty well (monterey) they usually meet up with friendship in the region championship and have made it to sub state the past three years. They put out LV last year in the sub state and the pitcher that came and closed that game to win is still there. Monterey might not be as strong as they were last year but you can never count them out they play with a whole lot of heart.
  6. I haven't heard to much chatter about bowl games this year. It looks like there is going to be several 5 win teams that will miss out on the playoffs. If it turns out that way when will the bowl games start being announced.
  7. Croz, I'm not sure you have a clue. You have been dogging Monterey pretty hard, but in all reality Monterey did not play that bad against you guys. You scored on a bubble screen and set up another score on a double handoff pass when one of Monterey's kids got flagged for pass interference. Now I will give you that in the last part of the third quarter your team took control. Every time Monterey would march the ball down the field on the tigers a yellow hankie came out and that is a fact. The opening drive of the second half Monterey drove the ball down to the 1 ft line and your team bowed their backs and made a good stand. No one from Monterey has said anything negative about your team at all, just don't understand all the GHS smack talk after the game has been played. Jackson Co. is a much improved team, but I'm not ready to say they are better than Monterey I would recommend you worry about your team a little more because from where I stand you guys are not the Tigers of old.
  8. You guys are making something out of nothing, Coach Heady has praised Clay County's coaches for the job they did Friday night. He gave them their kudos for their offensive scheme in the second half on Friday. He told me he thought the Garrett kid is one of the best if not the best player in the region. Sometimes the paper doesn't always print everything that was said as well. I would suggest that before you judge Coach Heady or any coach for that matter that you try having a microphone stuck in your face after an extremely tough loss and come up with exactly the right things to say.
  9. Its my understanding that Dickie Brown was introduced as York's new coach. If this is true, who does the bulldogs turn to as their new skipper?
  10. Monterey beats LV to advance to the state tournment. Congrats to Coach Looper and the Wildcats on their first ever trip to state.

I think the top ten teams would have to be 1 friendship christain 2Jackson christain 3Monterey Highschool 4Lookout valley 5Huntington 6Sweet water 7Harriman I can't think of any more, if you can let me know thank you and god bless
  12. Midten, Molly is a great player, but don't forget about the 16 points that Kelly Reed dropped on Jackson Co. She also had a huge 5 second call on defense and hit a big three that changed momentum. Tasha Phillips got into foul trouble pretty early in the game. That took her out of the game. Tori Lowe and Hannah Green do so many things that never show up in the box score. I just think Molly would be the first to tell you it is a team thing at Clarkrange. They are all good because of each other.
  13. Well your coach allowed it because one of your players was agging our crowd on as well. Also I will say it again getting on here and making fun of a 15 year old kid takes a big man. Oh wait a minute your 6'4". Your a freaking joke!
  14. Slow down their Bishop. The personal foul count was 3 on Gordonsville and 1 on Monterey. Also if you are a grown man making fun of a kid for how tall he is pretty classless in itself. This was a good hard fought game, and sometimes emotions run high. Their was one of your player doing the same thing 6 did to the Monterey crowd. It is all part of the game. Now if number 3 threw a punch that is different and he is lucky not to be thrown out.
  15. In some of the recent transfers I don't think the parents think their child is the next coming of Jesus Christ. They simply want their child to reach her full potential, but you are entitled to your opinion. Some parents would like to not only see their child get a college scholarship, but they would hope that they have been coached well enough to have a chance to play in college. I would just say be careful to judge without having first hand knowledge of the situations.
  16. I understand the point of view that has been stated so far in this thread, but not every situation is the same. You can't group all transfers into one category and say it shouldn't happen. The players that just keep on transferring from school to school to school may have some problems, but not every kid or family is doing that. Lets face it folks some situations are just not good, and when it is not a good situation do you just tough it out or do you get out if you can? Everyone is going to have their opinion about the right or wrong answer to this question, but ultimately that is a question most people will face at some time in their life. I will say this most everyone if they will admit it will get out of a bad situation if they can. I guess my opinion is that until you walk in these families shoes you shouldn't judge them or group them into one category.
  17. Old Coach, You shouldn't speak on behalf of these individuals. Stevens was forced to leave. She did not choose to. She may have had a choice to stay on as a coach, but I don't blame her a bit for choosing not to. It does not work when the head coach of a sport teaches somewhere else. The Heady's decided to move their child because of the commitment level to the program from the coaches, administration, and players. The coaches missed or were late to several practices. 2/3 months had passed since the last ball game and still no conditioning was taking place,(Coach Heady starts his offseason training 3 weeks after the last ball game and does not stop until the next 3 week dead period so he knows what it takes) and when it did the girls were being left alone in the weight room, and the coaches did not show up or were late. When the head coach was pressed about this his excuse was I teach in Cookeville even though he took the job knowing he worked in Cookeville. Administration was made aware of this, but nothing was done. The players are great girls, but basketball is just a past time for them. Not a single player outside of Molly and an upcoming freshman were playing summer ball. So before you question the loyalty of Coach Heady make sure you have your facts straight. He waited 2 years to see if anything was going to get better and it didn't. He felt he had to be loyal to his daughter first, and he is willing to accept whatever follows.
  18. You guys need to give it a rest! You don't know anything about this situation or Coach Heady. Trust me he had his reasons for moving his daughter. He has not said much about the situation because he is a class act. He is trying his best to keep the dirt off of coach t and out of the papers. Trust me if he told his side of the story you would look at things differently. He is very loyal to his school, and his players. However, he is more loyal to his daughter. If you can't understand that then you must not be a parent.
  19. Monterey's success will depend on how well some younger kids play. The loss of Phillips at FB and Cantrell at QB will be tough. The kids taking those spots have the potential to be better, but potential doesn't matter when that whistle blows. A senior line should help the transition period. I think Monterey will compete for a playoff spot, but in region 4A nothing is a given.
  20. Congrats to all the girls that made this team. It appears that team success not individual success is the most important factor in deciding this team. That is the only way someone could justify Molly Heady from Monterey not making the Single A list. 18 pts per game and 12 rebounds per game should get you on this list.
  21. I think anytime you have more athletes to choose from your level of play will go up, but I also believe that there are girls in A ball that would be stars on any team in the state. They are fewer and farther between, but they are there. That is why I think AAU is so important for these girls, because it levels the field so to speak. I'm a big fan of all teams in 7A, but I'm a bigger fan of hard work and a good attitude. I know that their are young men and women all over this state that lay it on the line, and those are the players I'm a fan of. The players that I mentioned are the players I get to see and they are the ones who make me go WOW. I talked to Molly and asked her what she thought about the state tournament and she was very impressed with several players in the tournament. She mentioned how good the girl from Milan was. I think she was a Miss Basketball finalist. My point is most of the people talking all this 7A dominence stuff are fans, and that is what fans do, but the athletes that are laying it on the line don't have time for that. These girls also enjoy being around other players that are really good. Have you ever noticed at the end of the game how the stud players will hug out of respect for one another. I have witnessed that and thought you know that is great battle your butt off and then show a great respect for each other.
  22. Bud, I know that Molly, Laken, and Tasha all play D1 AAU. Molly and Laken played for the same organization last year. Laken is a year older than Molly so they were not on the same team, but I know they played last year. Molly started for her AAU team and she averaged around 12 to 15 points per game against the best competition in the country at her age. Her team played several Adidas and Nike showcase tournaments across the country. In every showcase tournament her 14 and under team played up in age. The girls in 1A ball almost have to play AAU to prove they can play against the best competition. They have to overcome the "she plays A ball" mentality.
  23. I think it is pretty cool that we have these elite players in our District. Molly, Laken, Tasha, and Kelly are all super players. Each one of them are deserving of anything they get. I read a pretty neat quote from Coach Brown when he said he told Laken to shoot that free throw like she was shooting with her Mom. The neat thing was she was shooting after practice with her Mom. I know that Molly spends a lot of time after practice in the gym with her dad because I have seen them in their shooting. I'm sure Tasha and Kelly do the same things. I also think these girls root for one another. I would like to see all of them on one team because their would be a WOW factor. You get back what you put in and it is obvious these girls put a lot in.
  24. Molly Heady has got to start getting some credit for the work she does in the toughest single a district in the state. She has led this district in scoring and rebounding for two years in a row. I believe if her team could go a little bit farther in tournament play she would get more recognition. She is also an outstanding student. She has a 4.0.
