  1. I can't believe no one is going to mention Ken Colquette. 4 state championships with 2 state runner ups between '83 and '96. This is not to mention the outstanding season records and playoff records that go along with this. Had it not been for two outstanding teams Alcoa and Austin East, he may have had more state championships. He's got to be considered in the top 5 or 3 in the state.
  2. ShaneC hit the nail on the head. In the late 80's and through the 90's no one (except Marshall Co. and AE) wanted to play in Marion County. I remember at the Marshall County game the year after Marion County lost to them in the state finals by a touchdown there was over 10,000 at Bill Baxter Stadium to see the rematch. There was close to 10,000 the second year Austin East played Marion County in the third round of the playoffs at Bill Baxter Stadium.
  3. Please, times change, but I guarantee KC hasn't lost anything. Kids change, parents change, but I guarantee he's still one of the best in the state.
  4. Marion County vs. South Pittsburg.
  5. Del, Marion had the same problem last year. I think at one point it was down to 17? I may be wrong, but I think it's the attitude of the kids nowadays. I know one year at Marion during the 80's Coach Colquitt had around 80+ kids. I can't understand why a kid wouldn't want to play under a coach like him. Man knows how to win.
  6. I agree with Swamp, but would throw the 1986 Austin East team in there as well. The one that beat Brentwood Academy in the state finals. Leroy Thomson, Von Reeves, Monrico Hall, Mossy Taylor, etc. Beat Marion County three years in row in the playoffs for 85,86,87 and I believe won two state championships out of those three years.
  7. I doubt that "no one" has ever gotten scholarship because of playing high school ball only. Yes, it is very, very beneficial to play a summer schedule with a reputable squad, but you can't say with 100% certainty that it's the only way. You hit the nail on the head when you made the statement that a player should sell herself by building a resume and sending it out, but I don't agree with your statement that it's not the responsibility of the coach to not promote his or her kids. Yes, without a doubt, they are an educator first and foremost, but if they see that the kid lacks the ability, knowledge, means or self-esteem to promote themselves and their talent, then I feel it is their responsibility to, at least, promote or put that child in a position to improve their lives by getting a chance to have their education and lives improved and furthered, hopefully, for free because they've excelled at their sport or their academics. At that time it is the kid's decision whether or not to pursue any offers or leads, but I do feel that the coach has a certain responsibility to help if they recognize that something is there. Like you said, we both have our opinions and that's what makes this country a wonderful place to live where we are allowed the opportunity to say what we think. As I stated in my first post, I agree with you in that I think individual awards are a bad thing. I was just throwing out some different options. I'm sure there are 1000's of others that feel our opinions our wrong.
  8. I agree with you. It is a team sport and each and every girl on that team is as an important and integral component to winning as the next, but (I'm going to sound like a selfish person here) there are a couple of reasons that I can see it being a necessary evil. What about the teams that have players that really don't care if they win or lose? You see this from time to time. The other girls on that team that work during the summer to get better and do care about winning and becoming a better player would never get any exposure. If they didn't get all district, etc., no one would ever know they existed because there wouldn't be any posts are articles about them and no one would ever know. Typically, if it's a losing team there's no one out here posting about their players. Props to the ones who do, but most of the time they don't. Yes, in this day and age it's very important to promote team sports and that everyone is just as important as the next, but let's not get down on awards too much. Sometimes it can help get someone to the next level whereas, otherwise, without that award they may have never been heard from. Maybe they don't play on a high profile team, but their stats are as impressive as the girls who do. Hopefully, the coach is putting those girls' names out there, but what if he's not? If the team's not ranked or playing tournaments, etc., no one would ever hear about her. I'm just saying that whether we agree with it or not, it's here and I don't see it going anywhere anytime soon. I don't agree with them either, but I'm afraid we're stuck with it.
  9. Who could tell us the full roster?
  10. Did an all district team get picked since the tourney's over?
  11. Sheena Ellis of Hixson is an outstanding centerfielder. According to the ChattanoogaTimesFreePress she is 6 in runs scored, 6 in stolen bases, 9 doubles and a .376 avg. This is around the Chattanooga region which includes some outstanding teams. She's also got a great arm and covers alot of ground.
  12. Does anyone know if they picked an all district team for 6AA?
  13. I saw the game and you're right, MC didn't have their "A" game. Congratulations to BC for playing a good ball game and taking advantages of the mistakes MC made. Although, both pitchers weren't getting much help from the ump, Bledsoe definitely had the better bats for the evening. MC did finally begin hitting the ball at around the 6th inning, but it was too little, too late. Give a team like Bledsoe a 6 run lead and you're not going to win. MC looked very flat coming out so that didn't bode well. After looking at the brackets before I left I can MC and Bledsoe playing again to try and get to ER on Wednesday. Good luck to both.
  14. Traveled to Coalmont and let me just let me say, great job to the folks at Grundy Co. for putting on a good tournament at the last moment. I saw something that was kind of disturbing last night. I watched a couple of games and stayed for the MC/Bledsoe game. The homeplate umpire let his emotions get to him. Yes, it was late, and no, he didn't get paid anymore for being there that late so I understand how he was feeling, but that doesn't excuse him for putting his emotions out on the field. At one point MC's coach asked for an appeal on a check swing and after ignoring her several times the catcher asked him. He asked the base umpire, who said no swing. The homeplate umpire then turned to the MC coach and said, "Are you happy now!?" in a very angry tone. This should never, ever happen. On several occasions he told both pitchers, and several batters to hurry and get in the box or to throw the pitch. Neither team was taking anymore time than in a normal game. It was painfully obvious that he didn't want to be there. At one point BC's pitcher was cutting up and laughing at something that had happened and he told her to go ahead and throw. She turned to the coach or the third baseman and made a comment under her breath about throwing when she was ready. He never called her down. He totally let the game get out of hand and it showed. I truly hope that this was a one time incident, but it wasn't a very good display.

    Awsome Pitchers

We're not talking about pitchers and their stats, we're discussing who trains these ladies. I'd like to know which club or coach has produced the most collegiate signees.
