  1. Hancock Co. did not play Bearden. They played Knox Central instead. Central 54- Hancock-49. I'm not certain of the outcome of the South-Doyle/HC game but I think S-D won at the end. In both games Hancock looked much stronger underneath but were outplayed at guard. The center for Hancock(Rocky?) is a player, but his support is going to have to get better particularlily at guard. South-Doyle is playing hard again. Their new coach seems to be doing a good job. Central was crushed in an early 8:00AM game against Webb. I don't think Webb looked that good but Central looked like they were still asleep from being up too late from their football team's victory over Powell Friday night. They did however wake up for Hancock Co. Devon Hundley picked the pockets of the Sneedville boys all day and when Zach Conner finally found is jump shot the Bobcats started to fire on not all but several cylinders. Devon Hundley may be the best player you've never heard of. West loked improved this year, handling Carter easily. Pigeon Forge looked big. Bearden looked good as usual. Cocke Co. did not look good. Maryville looked, well like you would expect. Andy Tipton appears to be ready to take up some of the load inside to compliment Lee Humphrey outside. Maryville is my pick for region winner. Coach Henson at Karns said there were 16 varsity teams at the play day. I would like to hear how some of the other teams looked.
  2. Best scorer I ever saw in high school was Denton Jones at Knox Central (1970?). averaged high 20's shooting 3 range jumpers before the 3 point line. Signed with UT but had a couple of concussions and never was the same player. Ended his career at Stetson (I think).
  3. Sorry, you're wrong....We won the district tournament then won a game at the region. That means we were ONE GAME away from playing for another trip to the state tourny. If you guys make it this year, I can give you directions. Have YOU ever been??, it's a lot of fun... And you're right, McGaha is the man but Cosby is loaded with talent with or without him....see you Jan. 10th So..Is McGaha going to be back or not? I haven't seen anything snce he said he was not going to play. I hope he comes back to finish out his career.
  4. These are good players that I haven't forgotten about, but I feel are just a little bit lower..... -Conner: Honorable Mention -Gulmire: Honorable Mention -Mikhail Vibbert: #60 -Tyler Gaskin: #51 -Derrell Dean: Honorable Mention -Greg Gibson: #38 -Andy Tipton: Honorable Mention -Tevah Morris: #28 -Sherrod Scott: #48 -Derek Norris: #47 -Tyler Jones: Honorable Mention ***These are not final rankings for the Fall Rankings, but this is where each player is at the moment...... Thanks, I'm familiar with all these kids except Norris. Where does he play and what position?
  5. Not much Knoxville area there. How about Zach Conner (KnoxCentral), Zach Guilmire(Oak Ridge), Mikial Vibbert(Clinton), Tyler Gaskin(Maryvile), Derrel Dean(Alcoa)???? [Edited by clipper on 9-24-02 6:00P]
  6. Come on Mr. Mean, how about some love for Knoxville Central. They whupped Austin East in pre season both in a scrimmage and in the jamboree. Then they went out and shut out William Blount(5A) last Friday. They have one of the best defenses around and they start a freshman at QB. They will only get better....food for thought.
  7. Thank you for info. I'd say he would make a good football player also.
  8. Region 2 district 3 and 4. Oak Ridge, Clinton, Maryville, Bearden, Farragut, Central, William Blount, Heritage, Halls, Campbell Co., Karns, Powell, Sevier Co., South Doyle, West...check out TSSAA at www.tssaa.org and go to classifications. I tried to link you directly but my paste doesn't want to stick. [Edited by clipper on 8-24-02 9:10A]
  9. I was in Gallatin yesterday and I understand the building is not ready. I hear they are going to hold classes in the Dept. of Education bldg. until Oct.(?) However, I havn't heard anything about football or basketball and if they are able to field a team. Driving by, it looks like there is a lot of work left to do on building and grounds.
  10. Lee Smith at Knox Central. Look for him to start at some point this year. 6'5" and has played guard in middle school.
  11. Isn't Bradley C. AAA and Unaka single A. I'm not sure thats a fair evauluation for either team.
  12. who did they get and where did he come from.
  13. Just some thoughts on this weeks tournament. UT signee Stanley Asumnu is going to be a top notch SEC player. CJ Watson is also, but he does not seem quite as polished as Asumnu. He is, however very, very quick, particularly with his hands. He was able to get quite a few steals. As I type this the Thunder team (w/ UT signees) is preparing to play N.C. The Carolina team is led by two very impressive players. Ray Felton at point and Rashad McCants at 3/4. I,m anxious to see how Watson and Felton match up. I think Asumnu and McCants with match with each other also. Both NC players are committed to the Tarheels. I saw NC play 3 time this week and the fewest points McCants got was 36. Some kind of shooter! The Memphis team has a guard #25, who is in range when he crosses the half line. He also had two of the nastiest dunks I have seen while playin the Tn. Storm in a cake walk for Memphis. One of the most impressive things I saw all week was the TN Thunder-Williams(not the UT team) team play NC. The game was not close BUT Thunder played as hard at the end of the game as they did at the beginning. The Thunder looked like their 17U team and they were over matched talent wise but not in determination. The Thunder team should be proud of it's effort. Several other teams gave up when the score was lopsided but not these guys. Who is #44 for the Thunder. He is a stud. #10 played hard also as did several others. The Cecil Kirk team out of Maryland looked good. As did the Martin Bros. out of Iowa.

    Best HS game ever?

Central vrs. Oak Ridge 91...I wasn't there but I listened on the radio. Central couldn't stop Shawn Summers and Oak Ridge couldn't stop Todd Helton. The overtimes kept going on and on. I thought it would never end. As good a game as I have ever heard on the radio.
  15. xcat...I'm afraid Central fields two teams right now. One that is young and plays hard and is competetive and another on that shows up and yes complains too much. I'm sure you saw the latter. By the way, OR JV did not beat them and it only became close when CHS frshmen took the floor ad the starters came out. [Edited by clipper on 6/20/02 3:11P]
  16. Redd looked good against Central. The first three times down the floor they threw lobs to him. No dunks but got some points off them. Summer ball...Central was able to do a lot of bumping and pushing...He is so strong tha he seems to go where he wants and if he gets the ball on the blocks, count it. When the refs are really calling fouls he will be very tough.
  17. Central beat Elizabethton at TTU camp by about 5 pts. There was a funky tech called on Eliz. at the end of the game for calling a time out they didn't have. But it was a good hard fought game. Rutledge did beat Central at Bearden camp, but Central's point guard (Hundley) was not there. They had a senior who did not play last year and two freshmen playin point. (about a dozen turnovers between them). And from what I saw at that game Conner gave Singleton as much as he took. Both loked good, especially at the end of the game. Who is the big kid for Rutledge with the gotee? He shoots the ball pretty good also.
  18. Zach Conner is a jr. guard. 6'3" left handed avg 15 ppg last year for Central. 18 ppg for my Knoxville Clippers 16U team in spring/summer.
  19. I think you are correct on the name. The other guard is also pretty good but not in the same caliber as Harriford, yet. He is 16 I think. Both players are left handed and shoot very well.
  20. I was there to watch Knoxville Central, so I'm familiar with the teams they played. Elizabethton looks strong again. Guard play was a little erratic. VERY strong insid. Redd is a man inside. Hume-Fogg was excellent at guard but weak inside. Hernedon(?)is a deadly shooter/scorer. East Robertson might have a down year. Hickman Co.s' center is pretty good but if you stop him no one else stepped up to help score. Central played Celina and Lebanon but I did not see either game. Central will have as good a guard duo as anyone. Devon Hundley at point is as quick as anyone I have seen and seems to consistently rebound over bigger, stronger opponents and Zach Conner is close to unstoppable one on one (ask Elizabethton). Central will be much improved over a dismal year last year of playin almost all sophs.
