  1. McGavock champion, Hunters Lane 2nd in Dist. 12 AAA. McGavock hosts Brentwood, and Hunters Lane goes to Ravenwood on Monday. (Region Semi-finals)
  2. McGavock in winners bracket, waiting on winner of Hunters Lane/Antioch
  3. Kris Smith from MLK is definitely a contender along with teamate Johnny Lee. Smith easily is the most improved. I dought many thought he would have the kind of season he is having.
  4. This was total domination from tip off to final horn. I was very impressed with MLK' s defense.
  5. I meant exactly what I said. When Wicke hit his only 2 field goals the game was already out of hand. (thus being to late)
  6. Some observations from the game. Hendersonvilles' ball handlers looked very shakey against the pressure. Wicke could not hit anything until it was to late. The refs let one kid play defense behind Jamont and push him in his back, and when he pushed back they called the foul on him. C. Johnson is a pretty good second scorer.(3 straight 3 pointers put the game out of reach.
  7. Lets give Glencliffs other players a little credit. They did a good job holding things down while Jamont spent a lot of time on the bench in foul trouble. Also it seems that this year Jamont really enjoys making a great pass, almost as much as if he scored himself.
  8. Congrats to MLK, I have seen a few post on this topic that mention that is was five good players aganst one superstar. Well that is not totally true when you are talking about MLK. I say this because MLK easily goes ten players deep. If you follow this team closely you will notice that other than Johnny Lee the other players are interchangeable, also with them you may see a player one night play only 2 or 3 minutes and the next night play 20 and be a big part of the game. It will make you wonder where was this kid last night? And on the third night he can dissappear back into the shadows of the bench, until the great Doctor calls on him again.
  9. Jamont played with one hand. He has some type of injury to his right hand or wrist. I know that he is left handed but you need your off hand to guide the ball when you shoot and also when you go to snag a rebound. Anybody that saw him play for the first time last night would have not been impressed. The injury really limited the things that he could do.
  10. Anybody that follows 8AA and knows anything about basketball can easily see that Johnny Lee is definitely one of the best players in the district. If Doc really asked the other coaches not to vote for Lee, then that is not right. Also I think the message Doc is trying to convey is that his teams are good because of him,and not because his players have tallent. Doc is a very successfull coach, and his players conduct themselves in a respectful manner, but(and you knew there was a but) some of his tactics and mannerisms are hard to explain. Only the Doc knows.
  11. This was a close game until the fourth quarter. Sophmore Clarence Smith came off the bench and was the difference in the game. He controlled the offensive and defensive boards. Looks like he will a pretty good player for Doc, these next two years. I had not seen the big kid for Hume Fogg play this year, he has definitely come a long way. He only had about 8 points , but I would dare say close to 10 blocked shots, and several others that he made the shooter miss because they were trying to aviod the swat. He also had a nice dunk , where he went up strong like a kid his size should do. In the end in my opinion MLK has to many players that can contribute on any given night, wheras Hume is going to have Renfro and Hobson have big games on most occasions for them to beat the top teams.
  12. I heard that in the next election Doc will be running for Mayor of Greenbriar. I think he has a good chance to win.
  13. At this time I think that this is a no brainer. Harris does more things to make his TEAM win. For anyone who has seen Gordon play, there is no doubt that he is very talented. It would be interesting to see him play in a system where some coaching was being done. Then this choice would be harder to make.
  14. I have seen this kid play four times, and have been more impressed with him each time. He would definitely be a good fit for a mid major college. On the issue of whether he is 6'5" or 6'7" , give me a 6'5" player that can play over a taller player that I hope will come around one day. He has already got good footwork and post moves and could play as a freshman. After seeing Portlands' performance this weekend, my only question would be how in the world did they come in 5th place regular season. I saw some players other than Brewer and Ferguson play some real good ball for Portland.
  15. Stephen (Lipscomb) regular season MVP, and Furgerson (Portland) tourney MVP.
