  1. Oh, John Lane. 2X Champion 2003 and 2004.
  2. Jordan Leen has lost two matches in 2008-2009 season - Burroughs from Nebraska and O'Connor from Harvard (small private school near Boston). Who the _______ is Lane?
  3. Hey, we've got 20 football champions to set precedence. Why not dilute wrestling championships too?
  4. You can't know how I feel about Title 9 because if I really expressed it, I'd get banned from Coacht. 466 at last count have gotten rid of wrestling since 1972 including 9 in TN http://www.intermatwrestle.com/college/dropped.aspx I doubt anywhere near that number have dropped football. Too much alumnae support even for lousy teams. UTC wrestling exists because I and a lot of folks in the Chattanooga area contribute directly to the program and if you want to keep at least one competitive college team in the state, you can contribute too. There are enough influential alumnae and trustees who have a connection to the program to protect it. I imagine under the perverse interpretation of Title 9, a like amount which is donated to wrestling is given to women's athletics by the school to keep support at parity.
  5. Jordan Leen. Ask Michael Poeta, Josh Zupanicic, Gregor Gillespie, etc. I don't recall seeing Jordan ever taken down after the ninth grade but do recall Jordan MDing any number of opponents with one takedown after another after another after another.......
  6. And the sad part is this, how many of those colleges used to have a men's team? Title 9 was perverted into a zero sum calculation. It isn't applied the way Congress conceived of it but is applied the way the courts have ruled. Long term this is just one more nail for men's minor sports in college.
  7. In retrospect, you're right. Want to bet an over/under on the multiple?
  8. Response was to RMC pointing out that Collins Hill was being criticized for being successful....I mean having obnoxious fans.
  9. "You dont accept BC's position so maybe thats why." 2@140 And as I have said, I do accept BC's position; Coach Logsdon doesn't want to. I'm going out on a very short limb; this topic will have at least 500 posts next season on at least six threads.
  10. Sorry. Your analogy is still weak. Strong programs in the same sport within spitting distance of each other that won't compete with each other have little do with teams 100 miles and more apart. I'm over it. I wish they would compete but people in heck wish for ice water.
  11. His nickname at Sewanee was Leprechaun and it didn't have anything to do with school mascots. He graduated from FR in 1970 and from Sewanee in 1974. Kevin must have had 50" chest. No telling how far he could have gone with a decent high school education!
  12. "Baylor must be "ducking" maryville in football since they dont schedule them. They must be ducking White station in basketball as well." 2@140 Of all the analogies you could have used that was weak. I don't have to go out on a limb to say that if Maryville and White Station called for games Baylor or McCallie, for that matter, either would jump at the chance despite the fact those games would require travelling. BC is 30 miles away and if Baylor or McCallie called Steve Logsdon for a match................. I've come to terms with the fact BC won't wrestle Baylor or McCallie because "Coach Logsdon doesn't want to". As you and his supportors regulary state, he doesn't owe an explanation to anyone. And besides, if he actually gave an explanation, half the posters on coacht wouldn't have anything to post about.
  13. From as an objective point of view as any on this site: Accusations of bad behavior by parents, supportors and wrestlers are almost always (99.99%) made by supportors of the losing side of a match and supporters who have lost prior matches against the accused. A corallary to the statement is the accused usually has had much more prior success than the accuser. An additional corallary is the aggrieved will post his complaint on Coacht a nanosecond following the real or perceived bad behavior. And yet an additional corallary is there is a high liklihood that the accused will be Baylor or Father Ryan. Generally BC is exempt from the above rules as other DI schools are resigned to the fact they're going to get beat and BC fans and wrestlers are reasonably confident of that liklihood and don't feel the need to "rub it in".
  14. I wouldn't know about that because no one would have told me that if I were listening to them.
  15. His bio says his favorite sport is football. Imagine if it was wrestling!
  16. Too much. I take back everything and best of luck to your daughter! Hope she's on the top step one day.
  17. Here's a good article: http://www.nhsca.com/index.php?option=com_...:news-headlines Here's some pictures: http://images.google.com/images?sourceid=n...;q=Jason+Luster He's how old!!? Seems like the wrestling equivalent of Freddy Adu.
  18. Interesting analysis. A cursory review of the TSSAA website champions indicates 28 weight classes. Actually 29 but they got rid of really fat kid weight class after 1983. Actually, that's not quite fair because niether Whatley nor Emendorfer weighed more than 220. Now I'll have to go back and check your math. I guess your numbers mean despite the fact that D1 (I'm assuming you're not including schools like ND which were wrestling financial aid kids during this period and should be included in DII) were winning more individual championships, future DII teams were dominating the team championships because of the depth of their team talent. It would be really informative if you'd go back and determine all the place winners from 1987 to 1997. When you're finished, let me know, and I'll give you another assignment.
  19. The overall level of Tennessee high school wrestling has never been higher and it's never been more exciting to watch. The wrestlers are better athletes, better coached and improve technically every year. The overall quality of coaches has improved substantially. I was fortunate to wrestle on two state championship teams and place in three state tournaments and I doubt I could stay on the mat with these guys for the first period. What's amazing to me is this has been accomplished despite the fact that Title 9 has robbed many of these kids of a major incentive to persevere in the most demanding sport. As to which division is better, it's just too darn easy to drop some bait over the side and see who bites!
  20. So Etown, you think the split occured because current DI schools were dominating state wrestling tournaments? For the 30 years prior to the split in 1998, current DII teams and Notre Dame (they wouldn't have been eligible for DI) won 19 traditional state tournaments. For the 9 years prior to the split, current DII teams won 6 Large School Dual championships. Unless you can demonstrate that the quality of current DI wrestlers improved at a greater rate than that of DII wrestlers, which you can't, the only reasonable conclusion is that the quality of DII wrestling is superior to that of DI wrestling. Of course, this arguement would be easily solved, at least for the Dual champion, if the perpetual DI Dual champion would agree to wrestle DII schools.
  21. Exactly. Only one way to settle the question - dual it out on CoachT.
  22. I know. We had to break Cleveland in first. They kept asking abou where the turnbuckles were and asking if they could get Harry Thornton and Scuffling Hillbillys' autographs. Baylor and McCallie would have had several more had they been in the TSSAA earlier and BC would have several less without the split.
  23. Allen, You've got a huge company to run. Quit putzing around with stuff! And quit referring to yourself as we unless Janie and you are both at the computer.
